just a test, ignore this

just testing to see if my new signature is too long :)

RoQuEr 08-17-03 03:44 PM

7 lines

twikoff 08-17-03 03:49 PM

and keep in mind.. the space between lines counts as a line

broadwayblue 08-17-03 03:51 PM

yeah, 7 lines.

Mutley Hyde 08-17-03 03:54 PM

If you've got your Favorites, Search or History, or any side menu like that open, then yeah, it'll be seven lines. If you're window is maximized and you have no side menu open, it's 5.

RandyC 08-17-03 03:55 PM

It all depends on the width of the screen/resolution. On mine, maxed out it is a little over 1 line. :)

immortal_zeus 08-17-03 05:10 PM

Only 5 lines on my screen.

immortal_zeus 08-17-03 05:10 PM

So how long is my signature to you guys? On my screen, it's only 4 lines.

Copenhagen 08-17-03 05:56 PM

4

Scott27 08-17-03 06:39 PM

7 (no side menu open)

Rypro 525 08-17-03 07:42 PM

its 8 on mine (I use the bigger font, not the biggest, but the bigger font
zeus, yours is 5 on mine, but since I have cable, I don't mind

NCMojo 08-17-03 07:45 PM

By the way... if you want to test your sig length, here's a better test: make a real life post in some thread somewhere about something. Then change your signature. Then go back and find the real-life post that you did before. Voila! The signature from your earlier post will magically be changed to your new sig!

Also -- you can use VBScript code in your sig line just like you can in messages. Which mean that you can put [size] tags on either side of your signature set to 1 and get almost anything to fit. ;)

Thoseidiots 08-17-03 08:54 PM

So OK then--is it too long? Should I shorten it? The speech is from the comic Preacher by Garth Ennis, by the way.

Groucho 08-17-03 08:58 PM

Six lines on my setup. Lose the DAVE and the spaces, and you should be fine.

Thoseidiots 08-18-03 12:52 AM

thanks groucho. I mean Mr. Marx sir

Mutley Hyde 08-18-03 12:59 AM

Also, your display properties and/or monitor size will have an effect. scott27 must either have a really really tiny monitor, or he's got desktop icons the size of baseballs. ;)

Now that we've figured out how to get Thoseidiots's signature down to size, I wanted to ask...

Does anybody really bother to read a 5 line, one quote signature?

I don't even read 5 line posts.

not a chance
unless its a quote from someone here at dvdtalk..
but no-one here has the intellect to put together 5 lines of sensible text

twikoff 08-18-03 01:10 PM

There's also a five line limit on signatures. That includes empty lines. It's also based on a maximized browser window at 1024x768 screen resolution, with no child windows (like search or bookmarks) open.
Im assuming that those people that showed it as more than 5 lines.. either are using a blindman's resolution.. or have their text properties increased

Nope. Never.

One perk of this site is the limit. I've been to too many forums where you see a post like "I agree" followed by an incomprehensible 50 line signature including 100kb GIFs.

twikoff 08-18-03 05:33 PM

actually.. now that Ive paid attention

not only do I not read those really long sigs.. but I actually ignore the entire posts that those people make..
I generally skip past really long messages.. so even if its a short msg.. I see that sig and its natural instinct to skip that post all together
