how to login on the fly when posting?

i really like this forum, but i don't like the way it handles logins.

(i cannot enable cookies to auto-login because I share this PC with others)

For example, if i come to the site without logging in, and then find a thread i want to add to, i can't login on the fly (using the login fields at the bottom of a post form when not logged in). And when this happens, I lose EVERYTHING I had already typed. Instead, i get dumped to the standard "not logged in" page where you can login. Ok, but i never get returned to the thread i was on (i have to manually click through the forums to get back there), AND i lose the whole comment i wanted to post.

ARGH. This makes the forum very frustrating to use. I can't count how many of my posts just never got published because of this.

Any comments/help on this? Thanks!

It's happened to me, too... I've just learned not to login on the fly, or to copy the comments I was going to make so that I could repaste them after I logged in.

As an addendum... is this yet another feature that might be improved when the Premium Memberships roll out?

When posting at work I had this problem. When I forget I am not logged in and furiously type in some right wing rant and hit submit I would get sent to the "not logged on screen". After loging on you simply hit the BACK button in Explorer until you are back on the screen with your typed post. Even though you don't look like you are logged in, you are. Hit submit and it will post your thread.

I will try that next time. This is the first time I've used the quote feature too, and it works better than typing in a quick reply. It brought me to the login page, and then right to this thread to post the reply w/quote. Cool!

Thanks!

Hmm...gotta try that Back key method.

Yep, the back button method works for me as well.
