PLEASE lets not start a slew of All time... DVD freeze frame threads!!!

I can see it's already starting and there is NO reason to fill up the forums with all these like threads. Maybe have a single thread that deals with best freeze frame or whatever but to have multiple threads with "all time favorite dork freeze frame" is a waste of bandwidth!

Here's an idea...if ya don't like them, don't click on them.

own3d!

Bandwidth aside, I just find it amusing how few people grasp what "all time greatest" implies - and that is a singular choice. Hell, I could even let a 3-way tie slide if someone was very indecisive. Or if you really love High Fidelty, then how about a top 5.

But multiple frames from the same movie times dozens upon dozens of movies, all from the same few posters, well, that sorta dilutes any meaning the thread had, other than, "Hey, look what I can do."

Wrong forum

danicus007 05-01-03 01:43 PM

Well if they are pointless and people are causing the site to run slow or costing DVD Talk money, then it shouldn't be allowed period. But image posting is allowed and yes it will save bandwidth if those who don't want to see these freeze frames just don't click on the thread.

But I agree, it would also be wise to limit the number of screen caps we post or just simply link off to another URL instead of embedding the images into these threads. It's all relative really.

DVD Talk isn't hosting those images, though. The only bandwidth DVD Talk is responsible for is a snippet of code like <img src="http://pages.xtn.net/~jcestep/images/cap034.jpg" border="0" alt="">, which is obviously not as bandwidth-intensive as actually hosting a 37K image. Having a lot of images could slow down the display of a thread on the client end, but I would imagine its impact on the server is negligible.

If speed is a concern for users with dismal connections, perhaps it isn't the best idea for them to click on a thread whose subject line clearly indicates the presence of many images.

You make it sound like the freeze frame threads affect your well-being or something. Jeez, it's not a big deal.

D-Ball 05-01-03 01:58 PM

There are only 2 freeze frame threads. If you're concerned with bandwith, why did you start a thread to address a problem that isn't even a problem yet?

TREX1993 05-01-03 02:03 PM

Hey, here's an idea, how about we let the moderators make the rules as to what is and isn't a good thread.

1) These threads have proven VERY popular so far
2) As stated above, these images are NOT being hosted by DVD Talk and therefore are not costing them tons of cash
3) It's not like it is mandatory for people to click on every link and there suck up their own (perhaps) limited bandwidth
4) None of the three moderators has made ANY inkling of a
disagreeance with these threads.

Personally, I love them. Keep 'em coming!

Exactly! So the moral of the story here is..."If you don't like it, don't click it."

I say Keep 'em coming too!

F For Fake 05-01-03 02:16 PM

Agreed: Don't like, don't click. I personally don't have the ability to make the freeze frames myself, but I've been checking these threads like crazy. The newest form of online crack! Keep 'em coming!

Groucho 05-01-03 02:17 PM

Freeze-frame threads make Baby Jesus cry.

Maybe like I did for a thread in other talk, put something to a like of "dialup hell"

chanster 05-01-03 03:52 PM

own3d!
I think this is a worse thing than multiple freeze frame threads. This is almost as stupid as "All your base belong to us"
