1) Paid members would get an 'AD FREE" version of the forum 2) We'd have a special private forum area for Paid Members Still working on it... But I'm open to ideas. So post your suggestions. |
FWIW, since I have quite a few less members than Geoff has to deal with, I offered subscriptions at my forum (sd-1.com) - the benefits are few now, but I plan on moving to a dedicated server and offering more features - hosting (images & web pages), etc. Right now, for $10/year, I offer the following:

Blake. Nice model... Something that might work well...

i think the private forum might be a bad idea. It'll just splinter the members. I'm sure some inside joke or reference would seep into the main forums and the regular members would be confused. Also, depending on what the private forum topic was it could either lead to a lot of duplicate threads or a lot of people not being interested (for example many DVD Talk regulars might not care for a members only version of the Other Forum).
I think the only way it might work is to make Other or Mature or another of the "popular" forums private. Not sure how good that would be since it wouldnt' really bring new members into those forums. |

In all seriousness, I'm all for a membership fee (yearly? monthly?) that allows you to have no pop-ups, avatars and maybe even some simple picture hosting. I agree that having a private, "paying members only" forum might be a bit too much. |
