which forum is the one for blind buy posts?
?
|
Reviews & Recommendations, under DVD Talk.
|
|
I'm confused about this as well. Some threads are being moved to DVD talk, some are being moved to Movie Talk, and some aren't being moved.

Originally posted by Static Cling sfsdfd has a thread stickied to the top of the forum about those sort of threads here: http://dvdtalk.com/forum/showthread....hreadid=273632 I'm not sure I understand. SpyderMatt3 was asking where to post "Blind Buy" threads and was told to post them in Reviews (which he did). The stickied thread you've pointed out above seems to be talking about "Recommendation" threads. To me that's very different: "I need a good horror flick" <-- general recommendation, belongs in "Movie Talk" "Is Pulp Fiction, Hoodlum, or Jackie Brown a good blind buy?" <- blind buy thread, which seems to belong in Reviews according to what everyone is saying sfsdfd even says: As this is the "DVD Reviews and Recommendations Forum," it's OK with me if you want to ask whether a specific DVD is or is not a good buy. We've had lots of threads like that, and those typically turn into a "review" of that particular DVD. So, again, I'm confused what that thread was closed. Originally posted by Static Cling More general threads are being closed, and the above thread was about as general as it gets. I doesn't really matter to me one way or the other... it just seems like everyone (including, it seems, the mods) are confused about what to do with these threads. I've seen quite a few of them ping-pong around the forum. And this one appears to have been closed without reason. |
I don't believe anyone who visits DVD Talk is blind, but I could be wrong. If that's true (no blind folks here), then this is a non-issue IMO.
|
Okay, I see what you're saying. Because it was closed, the way I interpreted SpyderMatt3's question of "Good blind buys?" is "What are some good blind buys?" In his first post, he then lists three movies that he thinks are good blind buys. Anyways, sfsdfd would probably know why he closed the thread... any reason I think up would just be a guess.

Holy cow...just saw Static Cling's post....he is an Administrator now...what the heck has happened to this place ;) This must be Frankie's doing...

Just to bring this issue back from the dead... here's another example of a "blind buy" thread like this playing forum ping-pong:
http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=285981 The thread started in DVD Talk, got moved (by Static Cling) to R&R, got moved (by sfsdfd) back to DVD Talk... It just doesn't seem like everyone is on the same page here about where these threads go... And to confuse matters further -- does this thread belong in either of those forums? The poster is asking about the movie itself (not the DVD). Isn't that Movie Talk material? |
Yeah, there is some confusion among us. We'll try to all get on the same page shortly. :)

Originally posted by bboisvert The thread started in DVD Talk, got moved (by Static Cling) to R&R, got moved (by sfsdfd) back to DVD Talk... Kust to confirm that we're on the same page, here are the threads I think belong in R&R: * Review: (x) DVD * Review wanted: (x) DVD * Is (x) a good blind buy? (note the "overall" tone of the question) * Which version of (x) is the best? Here are the threads that I regularly move elsewhere: * Review/review wanted: (x) movie * How is the audio on (x)? (or other, specific questions about video ["Is (x) Pan & Scan?" ... "How's the commentary on (x)?"]) * Recommend me something in genre (x) The thread in question, at first glance, fits into the first category. But really, the topic is: "Am I too old for this movie?" - or, "Am I too old for animation?" This is either A) a discussion of the movie, or B) a question about the appeal of the movie/anime/animation to certain age groups. The quality of the DVD - audio, video, supplements, packaging, etc. - has nothing to do with either question. So, I moved it. It's a close call, and I'll defer to admins, or even DVD Talk Forum mods, if it gets moved back. - David Stein |
