We need an 'official' advisory thread in the Bargains forum.
Too many people have been going ballistic lately on good companies who make honest mistakes and correct them. It seems that most consumers have no concept of their rights when ordering something online and as such, they decide to go on tirades and badmouth companies who have done nothing particularly wrong. Certainly, situations are not always resolved as properly and personally as they should be, however I doubt that is just cause for most of the inflammatory remarks we see when a misprice is not honored, a coupon is refused, or an order in cancelled.
A few of the key topics that should be addressed are: 1) Your rights before your credit card is charged: (you have none, except to not be overcharged - no contract without consideration) 2) Your rights after your card is charged: (The order cannot be cancelled on you unless you are reimbursed for the right to cancel it. You cannot cancel the order without agreeing to the seller's terms for cancellation) 3) Standard mail order laws, etc I am not a lawyer, so it would be bad form for me to write something 'official' on the above items. Maybe one of our legally inclined members could word a few statements regarding these items and any others of relevance. Also, the thread could perhaps include a list of stores and how they tend to handle mistakes. I know that would most likely belong in the store forum if posted on its own, however as it is directly related to deals moreso than day-to-day store operations, perhaps it could be included. After all, the bitching when a deal goes sour always ends up in the bargain forum ... the pre-deal expectations ought to be there too. Just my $.02 |
a leave your whine/brags at the door policy would be nice......

i'd appreciate something along the lines of this as well. as of now the only law i am confident with is that they can not charge me more than i agree to. eg fye's price mistake on the claude chabrol set.

But BigPete, if we did that, we'd miss all the whine/brags..that's half the fun! :)
As for RoQuEr's suggestion..I think Bush would have better chance at getting unanimous support for war from the UN.. |
