Good idea GP.

I don't care much about the political threads, but it does seem to have merit, the same or more, than sports and mature. I do not see it change things much, since I don't see us revising our rules (biased or not) just because we separated the forum.

NO!

The other is a place to hang when you had slow times. Now you need to go looking all around the forums to chat. I was against splitting sports and adult off but I understand the adult other.

Other is just fine how it is! I political forum would be ultra SUCKEKEKEKE.

I don't care about changing of rules. What I care about is not having to go through the cyclical political arguments that come up every day and have taken a prevailant place in the pages of Other. This may just be me though.

Yeah, and I remember all the "gloom and doom" discussion about how if sports/adult stuff was split off of Other that it would destroy Other. Looks to me like Other is still thriving...and I would bet it would thrive without political talk in it. I would rather Other be a place where people can talk about things outside of discussions that can easily turn ugly (religion, politics, etc.).

Once again, maybe this is just me though.

No. Eventually it would have to be renamed, "The Flame Forum".

I think the jury is still out and we haven't heard from enough other's to get a real sence of if this is something people want.

So right now I'm leaning towards not doing it until I see that it's really something people here want

I think you'd get more hits if the poll were actually in Otter. Come on, how many people wander in Feedback unless they got a specific gripe?

No. Seeing a forum with all political threads would only ignite the debate more. I prefer to leave it as it is.

I say yes, as long as we can name it the "Have a nice tall glass of shut the hell up" forum.

I have to admit to agreeing with bfrank

I have been against the constant splitting up of Other.

Leave things the way they are.

Politics and Religion are part of the life-blood of the Otter... AnimeOnDVD has banned controversial talk such as the above, and their off-topic forum doesn't seem to have the energy that the Otter does... Not to mention, AOD discusses general anime topics in that forum (dvds have their own forum), as well as video games, computers, and books. The Otter has religion, politics, news, humor, and personal stuff... As has been said many times, if you don't like politics/religion, don't click on the thread.

EDIT: Anyhoo, part of the fun of the various debates is that it is with fellow Otters, if it was a seperate political forum, there might be more random political junkies...

Nobody is talking about banning anything. Other thrived after sports, books, music, and video games were all removed. I have no doubt it would thrive if Geoff installed a forum for the pundits. Not clicking on a thread is one thing, but for some they have to wade through political thread after political thread to find the light-hearted place Other used to be.

That's a pretty weak argument for not wanting it. Look at the sports forum and see if that's what happened.

Why not... I'm so tempted to say NO for the same reason I said NO to a sports forum... because i'd never see those occasional threads or ever visit a sports forum, but I enjoyed seing them mixed in eith other. But thanks to smallball, I do visit the sports forum and I see all those threads too

So... I say YES as long as we can find an online political game to waste on time on and have a bajillion threads about it.

Seriously though... my only concern is that there are a LOT of poitical threads lately. This is a good reason to have a forum just for those, but I wonder what it would leave in "other" besides jokes about ebay. Who knows... maybe it would become more fun again though.

I'll conclude with my final decision: I don't care. The rest of you can decide and I'll be fine with it

Would that new forum include the mundane "breaking" news? Not the shuttle blows up type stuff, but the "Ancient man found to have enjoyed custard" and "Teenage mom loses baby at rave" type stuff.

I think you'll get at least one more vote if you say yes.
