Well, I figured just mentioning Johnny Holmes implied his member ;)

p.s. I realize you meant to say 'spirit', but when I read it, I read it as 'spurt' and since we are talking about Johnny Holmes......Never mind, I leave the rest up to your imaginations :hump:

Yikes! I looked up "spirt" in the AH dictionary. Here's what it says:

...spirt v. Chiefly British. Variant of spurt.

According to Dictionary.com, the German definition of 'sprit' is:
To throw out with force from a narrow orifice; to eject; to spurt out.

SERIOULSY!!! (look at the 2nd refference) http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=sprit

DVDTalk Points

This is hard to control, but hey, I can post 1,000,000,000 of "thanks" to become "Founder" :-)

I wish DVDTalk may use "Points" instead of the amount of the posts.

1. Length of the post too short get 0.5 point
2. Asking for help get 0.5 point
3. Creating a new thread gets double points;
4. Violation - remove points;
5. Length of the membership, extra points per year;
6. Visting times matter, extra points!
7. Not been here for while? Points removed;
8. Buying something via dvdtalk or clicking an ad - extra points???

and many many more ... Does it sound fun to you?

joltaddict 01-18-03 07:08 PM

Sounds like the exact opposite of fun. Sounds like work.

Jazzy Hunter 01-18-03 07:18 PM

Well, you don't have to do the work though. Computer won't complain, programer gets paid ... :-)

Thanks!

Oh NO NO NO NO NO!!! Imagine all the crap threads then!!!! Either deduct points for starting a thread or base points on what the thread is about:

*Blind Buy threads = -10 points
*Info (with links) to NEW DVD's = +10 points
*Joke threads that require goofy responses = 0 points
*What are you getting/How many DVD's do you own threads = -50 points :D
When is xxxxxx coming out on DVD = -3,000 points
etc.

I agree completely.

Although I'm on another forum that does something similar. Apparently you get more points for helping somebody than for just posting normally, and you get more points if you start a "good" thread (whatever that means) then you do for just starting bogus threads.

I don't know how they do it or if it's even for real, but I thought it was interesting. Maybe it's a complete sham :)

I don't know how DVDTalk does it, but I know that there are some forums that don't give points/as many points for posting in their "off topic" forums (whatever the off topic chatter forums are called) because people in there just post personal messages back and forth all day and all of a sudden gain some sort of "higher status" on the forums even though they may not have ever contributed to the primary purpose of the website at all.
