Insomnia Pops
FYI - There here. 1x per 15mins and will be gone the later part of the month.
Post in this thread with any technical problems you may have with the ad |
I hate to complain, but I guess this didn't hold true.... :(
http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...n&pagenumber=2 Originally posted by gkleinman I'm absolutely no fan of pop-ups. And after the reaction to tonight's snafu, I really don't see us running them again after the V Campaign is over. How much money does this type of campaign raise for you anyhow, if I may ask? (ie: how much in donations do you need to tell your advertiser to shove it?) |
I got one, and it closed just fine. No problems yet.
|
Movie Man - The pop-up ads were a mandatory part of the campaign. In general we don't sell them unless the entire ad deal hinges on it. And again with this one... it did.
|
Worked fine.
AND I got my answer right. :D mini |
Working fine for me. I did have 3 in a row with new windows being opened though, not 1 every 15mins. I followed the giveaway link from the email, that opened #1. Then entered the giveaway and got #2, and then clicked on Home and got #3. No big deal, I didn't really care about it, but thought you might want to know if someone else says something about it.
|
Fine so far. I don't mind them at all.

 @ dek.
(actually it's a silent laugh....) -k ### |
I've been getting ActiveX errors on one of my computers at work since you started running these popups. Every time I look at a page with a banner on it it gives me an error and I have to hit OK to continue.
Irritating. |
DTSC - That actually could be the Flash banner running....
|
Well it started around 11 am our time yesterday, so figure that one out, chief. :)
|
Flash banner
|
Yeah, so what do I do to fix it. It says something about the activex control being unsafe and that it wno't be downloaded or some crap. EVERY SINGLE PAGE.
|
Go into the security settings of IE and allow ActiveX controls that are not marked as safe to run. You might have to allow them to download too.
I wouldn't, I'd rather get the message. But that's how you "fix" it. |
I was going to post about this
but since they're supposed to keep coming up my question is answered. I was hoping it was supposed to be a once per session thing that was messed up, but unfortunately its not oh well, I understand there are bills to pay |

EDIT: Bah nevermind, I just fired up Mozilla, because I'm not going to enable ActiveX in IE...
|
FYI - The pops are scheduled to stop 10/23 and there are no POP-UNDERS that run while the pop-up campaign is live :)

I'm on a T3 and I've found that the Insomnia flash banner seems to slow down the site a bit ... seems to be better now though ...
|
Damn_ads are keeping me up at night
|
Originally posted by X Then try enabling a few more, and set them to "enable", not just "prompt". Try "Download signed ActiveX controls", "Download unsigned ActiveX controls" (maybe try this one last), "Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins", "Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting". |
I usually just Ctrl-W popups so fast that they don't even have time to load but the Insomnia ones were getting to be a bit much. I set my Pop-up Killer to nail them; makes a nice ray-gun zapping sound. Very satisfying... :)
Truth is, I'd rather have pop-ups than no DVD Talk. |
Insomnia ad is officially driving me crazy.
No, not the pop-up, the flash banner. That thing is damn annoying! |

Just get a popup killer.
|
If i buy it , will they stop...please...make them stop!
|
Insomnia?
You must be seeing things. Get some sleep.
|
OK, this one is often enough to be annoying. It drove me to a popup killer. Do advertisers understand it doesn't pay to really po customers?
|
Half of the pop-ups load fine. The other half take upwards of a minute to load, during which time my browser is frozen (can't scroll or push the IE buttons). This is the same reason I had to stop reading at EZboard.
Is anyone else having this problem? Any work-arounds? I know this is supposed to stop on 10/23, but for future referecnce, this may be helpful, especially if Geoff has to do this again in the future. SPY |
Re : Every 15 minutes a Pop-Up
Just got 2 in under 5 minutes edit, make that 3 in less than 7 |
hehe, dek has AOL

Whether this will work if your computer is locked up with a loading window I don't know. But it is worth a try. |
The only catch is that the window doesnt appear while its loading. It locks up the computer, then after a minute, loads normally.

The pop-up that ask if pacino and williams have been in a movie together is wrong. It says that they starred in awakenings together.

Originally posted by Iron Chef hehe, dek has AOL Add that to the fact that everytime I ask an AT&T bastard "When can I get Cable modem or DSL?" they either laugh, or say "In like, 2 years" doesn't help either. At work I am in heaven with DSL, home I am in hell. Go dance with Brett Farve the injury boy! |
2 days to go!!!

Dek, funny artwork. :D
