? Day of silence at DVD Talk ?
 

I just had a crazy idea.
Given the feelings that many of us will be going
through tomorrow on Sept. 11, I was wondering if
DVD Talk forum will take a break that day and
go off line for "some maintenance".
I love to check the forum very day, but perhaps we
should direct our focus on some other things tomorrow.
A little more time with our families,
a moment thinking about someone special who passed away,
a day to reflect on the things that are important to us.

Just an idea?

Then what am I suposed to do when I'm supposed to be working?

while i wouldn't necessarily be opposed to it, i think that, for me at least, life is going to go on as normal tomorrow as ever. it was a great tragedy and yes, a little rememberance is good...but let's not overdo it. it's a dark chapter of our nation's past, but the keyword there is past.

it's time to move on. anniversary notwithstanding, let's reflect within ourselves without our routine grinding to a halt.

id rather be here, or watching a dvd then watching 24 hours worth of depressing television

It's a nice thought, but my view on it is that part of the way we can all 'remember' is by carrying on.

I agree with the "spend more time with your family" bit.

Reflect, remember and be thankful for what you've got.

What purpose would turning off DVDTalk serve? Nothing, it would be an empty gesture. Now, if you don't want to come here tomorrow, that's your choice. But I'll be here same as always with my smartass remarks.

Moving to Forum Feedback.

Edit: By "the dead," I mean Wallace Shawn, and not the forum moderator, or anyone else.

I will say last 9/11, I couldn't access any news sites, even on our works high speed connection. I had to rely on the otter farm for updates.

Like I've said in other recent 9/11 threads, we are a community of people with common interests. Communities tend to support each other in times of need, I think it would be best if we were here for each other.

Here's a thought...if you want a day of silence, don't visit the forum that day?

Just an idea, maybe just for the hour when everything went down.

Our plant will shut down all 6 steel tube mills from
9:00 - 9:03.
It turns out to be a very expensive event and
results in more down time than just 3 minutes
to get the mills up, running and calibrated again.
I guess each of us will be doing something in our own way.

While I agree that closing down the site would be a big mistake, not the least considering it's where so many people congrerated during and after 9/11 to exchange news, rumors, and feelings, I also think that the above is foolish thinking. September 11th is NOT our past. It is our PRESENT. We live in the world of September 11th and that will become clear to anyone who believes otherwise when the next attack happens. Make no mistake about it, this is not over. While I hate to think like this (and pray that I'm wrong) there's no doubt that this is the way it is.

Closing the board is a very bad idea. People should be able to choose how they want to deal with the day. If you don't want to use DVDtalk on the 11th then make that your decision without trying to dictate how others should behave.

I remember last year, 9/11 this was were I got just about 50% of my news and updates. the other 50% was from NPR and CNN. I spent a lot of time here last year talking about what just happened. it helped me and many others on the forum to express themselves on the forum, In a time of shock, it helped out.

Closing the forum on that day when people have things on there minds and want to express them is a bad Idea if you ask me. I say let the forum carry on.
