Why are passwords random?
Is there a particular reason why users cannot create their own passwords? The random ones that DVD Talk issues out are not at all memorable, and it seems that the server frequently "forgets" user information, and asks for resubmission of the password. Every time this happens I have to go through the process of obtaining a new password, which might not be at all long or hard, but very much so annoying. Perhaps a little reasoning behind this can leave me at ease?

You can change your password after it's been generated.
I'd imagine the reasoning behind the random password is to verify that the e-mail address provided by the user is correct. |

I am the village idiot! Before launching into my rant, I should have at least thoroughly checked around to see if I could change the password to my liking. I thank you for your swift, informative answers....
