Technical Terminology

This is my first post so excuse me if this has been discussed before. Is there an area or site that either discusses or lists technical aspects of DVDs.

With all the new technology being implemented I am unable to locate explanations for the terminology. For example, I have just located a movie that lists two versions. One is normal, the other is something called "sensormatic." After searching everywhere, I am still unable to determine what "sensormatic" is?

If there could be an index, glossary or similar with a searchable list for all the currently known technical terminology regarding DVDs on this site, I bet it would be very appreciated.
Thanks

Sensormatic, like Checkpoint, refers to the type of theft-detection system used...the little magnetic strips on the packaging. The system only matters to the retailer. On the consumer end, there's no difference whatsoever, unless you're a stickler like me and have to tear the strips out. :)

Appreciate the reply!
Can you tell me where you learned about this and "Checkpoint?"
Also, why would a reseller bother to list a particular title both ways?
Many thanks

I did a Google search and found http://www.bestwebbuys.com/help/tipsvideo.html#Q2

I don't know why resellers would bother unless (1) they were targeting retailers or (2) they were similarly unsure of what the term meant but decided to rattle it off anyway.

I guess I wasn't looking in the right places?
Thanks again for your help

One of our members has created a DVD and Home Theater Hardware FAQ that's located in our DVD and Home Theater Hardware forum:
http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=165672

In addition to being a great resource on its own, it also includes some good links. Might want to browse through that.

Welcome to the forum and the format! :)
