yup...bandwith issues...plus you have to be considerate for those on slow connections

We'd love to offer them but we're really strapped for bandwidth right now and avatars would add quite a bit to an already extremely high bandwith bill.

Well, if it were limited to off-site images it would only require another parameter in the MySQL query; i.e., hardly any extra bandwidth. But personally I don't want to see annoying avatar images like other boards are fond of. :) Maybe if they were limited to 48x48 (i.e., hardcoded width and height values and a notice that said 'size your image to be 48x48 pixels').
