Saving a few Kilobytes...

Geoff... noticed that the DVD Talk logo on every page is about 6k, and also that it has different colors for the DVD portion of the logo and the talk/forum.

So.. here are some alternatives that are 1/2 the size (or more) and also have the colors corrected. In addition, I got creative with the last one :)

Ok.. as a recap, here's the standard 6.1k logo (bbtitle.gif)

Here's one alternative, basically just a redo of the above (3.9K):

Here's the basic logo minus the drop shadow (2.2K)

And here's my (ahem) creative twist, an inner shadow (3.5K)

Hope this is useful!

I like the inner shadow one

I like it too. :)

shaun3000 11-15-01 10:58 PM

yup, me, too

RoQuEr 11-16-01 01:03 PM

it looks better than the original IMHO

Inner Shadow =

Inner Shadow looks great, and saves bandwidth. :)

Please resist the inner shadow. If the little old ladies are using that filter in the church bulletin ... it's done, buddy.

Ack...a negative vote! :)

Here is what I like about the negative shadow, and to me, it can be done without the shadow effect.

The present logo appears blurry to me. The shadowing behind the letters (and wasn't that a homemade newsletter staple?) ends up making the word Forum look blurred.

The inner shadow is crisp, but I think you can have that by dropping out the shadowing all together.

The other thing is the contrast. The inner shadow adds more because of the darkness. The present logo, with it's two colors, still looks too light. A deeper/darker blue looks better.

a couple more...

minimizing the "fuzz" on the drop shadow:

a "hard" drop shadow:

... and now for something completely different:

p.s. I still like the negative shadow best, church ladies or no. :D

Oh lord, another new logo thread. I'll keep out of this one this time...

G. Noel Gross 11-17-01 06:17 PM
