Hello, I'm new to your boards and have a question on how to use qoutes in a reply.
If you want to reply to someone's particular post and include their quote in your reply, how do you do that? For example:

quote:
SO and SO posted on....
and then there quote here usually in bold
then a seperator

then you can post your reply underneath... I've seen this done here. Thanks

Go to the top right corner of the post to which you want to respond. Hit the "quote" button. That will automatically bring you to a reply screen with the quote inserted.

You can really have fun with this by editing the quote to make it look like the original poster said something completely different! (this is called "edit-quoting", and we do it for fun on the Otter Farm - Other Forum)

Every message in the upper right hand corner has a 'quote' button. Click on that, and it'll open a reply with the message you want to reply to. It'll all be together in one big 'quote', such as:

By modifying the vBulletin code in the message, you can break that single reply up to insert your comments wherever you'd like.

Such as:

<table border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"><tr><td><font size="2">[</font></td><td><font size="2">quote]</font></td><td><font size="2">[</font></td><td><font size="2">b]</font></td></tr></table>This is the first line of the quote.<table border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"><tr><td><font size="2">[</font></td><td><font size="2">/b</font></td><td><font size="2">]</font></td><td><font size="2">[/quote</font></td><td><font size="2">]</font></td></tr></table>This is my first response.

just another sorta related question since i could not find the answer on the site. How do you hide spoilers?? i've seen black text on black background.. not sure how to pull it off:(

Use the spoiler tags.

Same as the quote or bold tags, but use the word spoiler instead

And if you wonder how someone did something, you can always use the EDIT button to see the code in their post, you just won't be able to save it unless you are a mod.

Actually, using the 'edit' button just brings up a page that states you are not logged in as the correct user. So you have to use the 'quote' button if you're not a moderator.

Ahh... that was changed then and as a mod, it still works for me. A while ago, before I was a mod, it was commonly used.

I used to click on "edit" to see how other people used codes but I think that changed with one of the recent software upgrades. Now it's just us mods that have it that easy. ;)
