In the DVD Exchange section, I was under the impression that every poster is limited to ONE trade thread. Therefore, is there a way to change the thread name to say, for example "updated" and date as your list changes? Otherwise, titles initially listed in the name of the thread might not be available any longer. And you may want to add new additions to the thread name to draw attention to the new items.

Can't you delete your thread and then start a new one? I am not sure if this is what you want as I could see this affecting on going trades/sales.

Thanks, RMau360, but like you said, I don't really want to delete the whole thread. I think we're only able to delete our own posts, anyway.

In any case, I guess the best I can do myself is to edit and add a notation WITHIN the thread.

I think Mao's not going to be very happy with Bushdog! :D

Reread my post. I said IF Mao thinks it is worthwhile to start doing this. He is infinitely more wise than me about how the exchange forum works. I was just making it clear that it is a Mod action to change the thread title.:)

But seriously, rkndkn is really asking about changing a thread title everytime the list is updated. Kind of like this: "DVDs for trade-Updated 6-19-01"

It's actually a great idea, especially for the Exchange forum regulars, but since only mods can edit thread titles, it would be a lot of work for Mao.

Which is why I didn't post what you did when I first saw this thread. ;)

I don't know how that forum works either but, notwithstanding my wilful ignorance, I <i>think</i> that one way of making it more clear when one's own thread has been updated is by bumping after having edited the first post and including (at the top of that thread-starting first post) a prominent date or message.

Yes, the thread itself still has to be opened but at least it contains an early clue.

So is this acceptable to periodically delete an entire thread I may have started, if say, everything in the thread has been replied to/resolved? Then I can start a new trade thread with the latest titles in the name of the new thread?
Otherwise, I think it's difficult for people to know there's major changes to your trade list. Even if you bump the thread up, a person wouldn't know if it moved up because of a reply to your thread, or because of a change to your list. Because of that, I find myself opening the same threads over and over to look for changes!

Well, we're specifically talking about "for trade" threads, so there really isn't much going on besides people saying YGM, trade x for y, etc. If there isn't anything in the thread you want to keep and you think a new thread is more likely to get you the attention you want, then I see no problem with deleting the old one and starting a new one.

I also checked Mao's <a href="http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=86392">Exchange Forum Guidlines</a> and he only seems to mind if you have multiple threads open. So this should be ok.

However, Mao is the moderator of the Exchange forum, so I'd want to leave the last word to him. If you're still concerned, you should email him (<a href="mailto:[email protected]">[email protected]</a>) and see what he has to say. But I see no problem with it.

rkndkn has e-mailed me and I've explained the best procedure I've seen used.

(Jeez...the one day I don't check this forum...)
