Did we have a hiccup?

"it's just a jump to the left...."

RDYoung 04-24-01 03:49 PM

whoa! reminds me of last week!

Autotelik 04-24-01 03:50 PM

Whoa.... it wiped out the book talk forum!!

Yikes!

DigIt 04-24-01 03:51 PM

I was in the middle of posting and it told me "invalid username". For a minute, I thought I got banned and didn't know it!

Geoff apparently had to revert to the old system.
Geoff, I hope you can find a way to get that version back up again; it was a really good version, IMHO.

I actually like the look of the old software better, especially in terms of the folders on the left-hand side and the thread links actually changing color when you've clicked them. However, the new software is clearly superior in terms of features. The fact that I probably made about 60% of my posts last night and lost several interesting discussions sucks, but life goes on.

The new forum server simply overwhelmed the server it was on.

It's running on a dual PIII 850 w/ 1 gig of RAM. With our current economic situation it's just not possiable to upgrade the server to more than that.

That sucks, too, because I'd been posting a lot there.:(

The weird thing was... I didn't even notice that DVDTalk got switched back to what it looked like before Sunday's upgrade. I started to realize what was going on when the thread I was looking at in the reviews forum disappeared. I hit refresh... and everything was gone. Then I realized that the forum looked different... and was reverted back to the way it was before.

Seriously, I must be dumb (or still too attached to the old forum) to not see the visual difference.

So does this mean all the new rules haven't happened yet? ;)

habers 04-24-01 04:03 PM

this "old" look is easier on my eyes for some reason.

The new software seemed very "whiz-bang," offering a lot of features that absorbed a lot of resources. I was surprised that you'd made a move up to that kind of software and wondered if you'd secured some Big Iron to run it well. :)

Looks like that's not the case. :(

Well, experimentation is good, Geoff. At least now you know that once we all get together and buy you that dual P4/1.7GHz system, you've got some software to justify it. :)

Very true!

Sockmonkey 04-24-01 04:58 PM

I throw my vote in that the "old" software is much easier to look at and more user friendly.

And, David, from what I've read about the P4.... Geoff would be better off keeping the PIII :)

Look at the bright side

That tattle link that appeared at the bottom of every post is gone. And so is my thread complaining about it! Chaos!

I thought you were making money faster than you could spend it. Do you really sleep with your server?
