I can't get in with Netscape 4.x and 6.0 crashes because of the ad server's constant disconnection messages! I am using... ugh... IE now.

esc-esc-esc-esc-esc... for every page.

I know you know already, but ugh!

How do you think I feel. This has been the bane of my existence.

I try to remember that every time I mention something like this. I know what a pain in the rear it is for me to keep our web servers working all the time even without the worry of losing income over it. Does this ad server support the mizzuz's site too? If so, then that's gotta be even worse for you! :(

OK... it's all back up.

For those of you interested in the details:

- Our web hosting provider just told us the ad server had a faulty ethernet cable, wich they replaced.
- We removed 3 of the ads from the bottom of the page to reduce the load on the server per page
- We killed some cron processes which were conflicting with our ad server
- We tweaked some settings to optimize the server for the traffic on DVD Talk.

Hopefully we are close to a long lasting solution and at least for me, it seems that some of the pages are now loading faster due to the changes...

Call 'em and tell 'em to check that blasted ethernet cable again! ;)

Anyone have the name of a good piece of ad serving software?

why use an ad server at all? you could use simple java script to rotate banners. You could even call a central script (.js file) from any page. (see your email)
It may not be the best soultion but then again it might just be what you need.

I concur with conkie. I just tried to access the Crouching LIon, Hidden Tiger hyperlink and got an Amazon.com window within the picture instead of a separate window with the page displayed.

When I designed a website for someone, I also developed reloadable javascript files. All I had to do was load the .js file at the beginning of the page and it displayed everything correctly.

This also provides the flexibility to load a specific .js file depending on the browser type and version. SInce we all know that no two browsers are equal.

You can keep a variable to indicate some random number to play around with the next rotation.

This way you can keep the pics all in one folder and with the filename equal to the hyperlink.

Just load and go.
