Bump to top ... still waiting

AgtFox 05-30-01 11:54 PM

Over 3 weeks late now. Hopefully they will come soon :).

valkyrie 05-31-01 06:31 PM

Yeah, Geoff, what's the deal? Did Universal dump on their deal to give you answers or what?

Master J 06-01-01 05:52 PM

By the time Universal gets around to answering questions, most of the titles in question will be released. I am sure there has to be a couple people at Universal not still working on the Grinch announcement from two weeks ago.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....................

Gallant Pig 06-02-01 02:58 PM

Actually Geoff sent me the answers to the questions a week ago, I've just been a slow and lazy bastard in posting them. Sorry guys, I'll try and get that done sometime next month.

;)

When does the Grinch come out?

Sit tight, they'll respond soon.

Soon...soon...soooon. Doesn't even sound like a word anymore...

I'm beginning to think Universal's team of question responders are moving at a speed of something slightly slower than "glacial." I like the fact they have time to release 27 editions of Patch Adams, but can't be bothered to respond to a set of questions they promised to answer about 4 MONTHS ago.

Grrr....

*drumroll*

valkyrie 06-11-01 06:58 PM

Boy, those arms must be getting tired right about now...

dgc 06-14-01 03:02 PM

My search ended here but no answers to those questions.

HELLO, HELLO...

Master J 06-17-01 12:16 PM

Any news back from Universal yet....this is getting ridiculous.

J

PGHFlyer 06-19-01 08:52 AM

getting? This IS ridiculous.

dek 06-19-01 09:46 AM

Maybe its like HTF where they get the info, then say "Wow have we got big news for you, but we can't tell you about it".

Then someone will break the story and we'll hear "I already knew that"

;)

J/k Geoff :D

Lighten up people, I'm sure answering a bunch of questions aren't too high on their priority list. What is Geoff going to do? Call them everyday until they give him the answers? They gave him a date, it passed. Don't crucify him because Universal dropped the ball.

Gallant Pig 06-19-01 12:27 PM

I'm starting to think 90 percent of the questions will be answered by the time the answers are released. ;)

GeoffK 06-19-01 01:11 PM

In this case I can say we've done all we can to get the answers. I've spoken to Universal on several occasions and they've gotten stuck with the answers to some of the questions, they REALLY don't want to be like: "no comment", "no comment", "don't know"....etc. So they are working to get permission to answer some of the questions.

What HAS happened is that the questions are really now having more of an impact on Universal Home Video and the way they do things more than anything else. Many of the titles you have asked about have been added to the list of titles to be considered for 2002 and they're also taking some of the technical notes to heart.

I promise you there WILL be a result here. It's just taken a lot longer than anyone ever expected.

valkyrie 06-19-01 07:36 PM

Bummer.

Gallant Pig 06-19-01 07:54 PM

Why not release them in installments?

LBPound 06-24-01 11:10 PM

What's the latest word?

cartman 06-25-01 12:06 AM

 I'd never seen this thread! I love the dates on the posts!

Just to put things in perspective, if our questions have actually changed the way that Universal views DVD releases, that is great. If that's the end result, then frankly I don't care if they every answer my questions. I'd rather see better films, more TV product, higher quality... than have a list of questions where every answer is "we are considering that for 2002 or the future".

Don't get me wrong, I too am very impatient for these answers. I want to get a recent, definitive answer on the possibility of a DUNE collector's edition; I also want to know if they have any plans for BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. But, if these questions have opened Universal's eyes to new markets, and pointed them to DVDTalk in general as a reference, then they've done their job all ready.

I would like to point out to Universal that since they seem to be re-releasing titles to coincide with sequels (MUMMY:Ultimate, AMERICAN PIE:Ultimate)... The Sci-Fi Channel is doing a CHILDREN OF DUNE miniseries and a new BATTLESTAR GALACTICA show, with Bryan Singer of X-Men fame.

Seems like a great time to revisit those titles that they own (Dune 1984 and the first season of BG). ;)

W-Mans 06-29-01 01:47 PM

I don't even care anymore. Oh, wait. I must, if I'm here.

Gallant Pig 06-30-01 09:55 PM

You know, I'm wondering, did Universal ever have any intention of answering these questions or was this a big, slick marketing ploy? Universal seems to milk the marketing aspect of DVD, with their "Ultimate" reissues, Director's Cut reissues and the like. Seems to me they basically used DVDTalk as a free survey, and took the information (ie questions) and ran.
