I know there was some talk in the past about helping with duties or something, but maybe it would be a good idea to designate a backup Chad or maybe a council of Chad to help keep things moving if he isn't interested or isn't able one year. I know many, including myself, would be willing to assist if needed.

I think we need to start figuring out a group here to get the challenge going, I know multiple people volunteered. My mind can't even get wrapped around what needs to be done, and somehow Chad does it himself.

I guess the first question would be how closely do you want to mimic what Chad does (as far as all the info/links/ etc. that are usually in his first post)?

Re: Comments, Suggestions & Feedback for the 2025 Horror Challenge

Hey everyone. I haven't abandoned this place. My mom recently lost her battle with cancer.

Here's a short summary of what happened and I'll spoilerize the details for those that want to avoid an overly depressing story:

Spoiler:
Things took a downhill turn after my optimistic post from the last challenge thread. On the second day of the clinical trial at Sarah Cannon Research Institute she went in to get a port put in, which should've been a roughly 15-minute procedure. The doctor botched it by making two mistakes - first hitting an artery paralyzing her arm, and then upon attempting to repair the damage it induced a stroke. It's extremely rare but also an unfortunate risk. That resulted in not only getting kicked out of her trial, but the recovery process meant going without any treatment during a very vital time.

She eventually got on chemotherapy and did fairly well all things considering. It wasn't long after the Maintenance therapy started that she developed an infection we later discovered was pneumonia. We honestly thought it would require a couple of days in the hospital at most. She checked in on the first official day of Summer, and we got to watch part of the Jaws 50th airing on NBC that night together. By day 2 she was moved to the ICU. On day 4 she was so heavily sedated from the pain medications that it was really the last time I got to speak to her. The antibiotics and later steroids were ineffective against the infection. She passed away on the eighth day. All of it was unexpected because the notes on the scans literally said the cancer wasn't progressing. That wasn't the case. They were giving us false hope in an attempt to make it easier on the family, which is flat-out lying. So yeah, fuck cancer.

I'll go ahead and post the pre-challenge thread with what I have and see where it goes from there. Its been weeks since I've really got to work on much of anything, so I don't have the usual amount I normally would by this time. I'm still not 100% sure if I'm hosting or not. If I do, it might have to be a somewhat scaled back affair complete with a repurposed banner, etc., and I'll probably need a bit more help than usual trying to catch up. If I do jump ship, I'll be happy to answer any questions via PM. I do hope to, though. I'll also try my best to get the pre-challenge up by Monday if I can.

And BTW, thanks to the people that reached out via PM, email and in here. Sorry I didn't get back to you, but I certainly appreciate it. I haven't been checking messages much lately.

Wow. I am so sorry Chad. Nobody should ever have to deal with all of that. Take all the time you need and we’ll all hold down the fort for ya if needed.

That is horrible Chad. A really terrible situation got infinitely worse, all without any expectation. I am really sorry to hear about it. Hosting this challenge means nothing when comparing it to what you have been through. As so many have said, I will do anything I can to help you with anything you might decide to do.

Really sorry to hear that, Chad. Losing a parent is really rough, just know we're thinking about you.

Sorry to hear that Chad. Cancer is the worst evil in the entire world. Anything you need, we can all assist. I will say in the short time you weren't around it put what you do here in even a greater perspective.

Chad, may you find strength and comfort during this brutal time. Thank you for sharing the story, I found some reflection in it - life's not fair. Fuck cancer. I think the best advice I ever got was no matter what you don't have to go through it alone; make sure you have some support and honor your loved ones.

I'm so sorry to hear about your mom, Chad. I lost both of my parents over the last few years, and it's really difficult. Watching some trashy horror movies helped cheer me up, though, and I wouldn't be surprised if that's a similar case with you. We got a nice community of like minded horror fans here and I hope that is a comfort when we all sit down to binge horror this October. :grouphug:

My deepest sympathies to you, Chad. You have plenty of people here willing to support however we can - for the challenge or otherwise.

I’m so sorry for your loss, Chad. But very excited to see you back! Horror movies have helped a lot during tough times in my life, and I hope that they can bring some comfort during this time.

Let us know how we can help here!

May you feel the Spirit surrounding you and your family doe comfort and strength, Chad. That whole last couple of weeks sounds like a true disaster, I'm very sorry you've all had to endure that and will now have to live with that, too. What a mess.

We're all in your corner.

So sorry to hear what happened, Chad :( I'm curious if there is any actions that can be taken against the Dr and hospital as it sounds like major mistakes, mishandling, and misinformation.

Unfortunately there's not much you can do to my knowledge. And that's despite another doctor calling it negligence. You sign an 'informed consent form' beforehand that prevents pursuing legal action. Are there exceptions? Maybe. But that was an extremely hectic time and a headache that my family and I didn't want to have to deal with. And at this point we just wanna move on from it.

Oh man I'm so sorry Chad. I don't really know what to say, and I always have something to say...

Maybe immersing yourself in this is a good thing, but nothing really assuages the grief.
