19th Annual Holiday Challenge DISCUSSION THREAD
19th Annual Holiday Challenge

OFFICIAL RULES
-Movies, TV shows/specials, Short Films & Cartoons Count
-The movie or TV show DOES NOT need to be holiday oriented. It could simply take place during the holiday season (i.e. Batman Returns, Gremlins, Die Hard, etc.)
-Although the movie doesn't have to take place during the holiday season, a MAJORITY of the film HAS to take place during the holiday season. No movies with just one scene during the holiday season. If you're not sure, ASK!
-Any holiday from Thanksgiving through New Years Day may count
-A film can only be viewed once, UNLESS you watch it and then watched it again with a commentary
-There is no global goal, shoot for a personal goal. Whatever you want your goal to be go for it. For returning participants maybe your goal should be to beat a previous year's goal.
-Again, like past years there will be a THREE Wild Card option to include movies or TV shows you might watch during the holiday season that is not holiday oriented. Some families have watched movies like Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory every Christmas So anything is allowed, up to 3.
-Specials such as the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, New Years Rockin' Eve, etc. can count, but you MUST watch the entire special in order to count it.
-PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE number your lists! If you do not number your list it will not count towards the challenge
-It doesn't matter how you see the film, VHS, DVD, Blu-Ray, HD-DVD, Laserdisc, YouTube, Streaming services, Theatrical release, it can be counted. Just have fun.
-The challenge will begin at dusk on Saturday, November 18 2023 and will end at dawn on Tuesday January 2, 2023.

Re: 19th Annual Holiday Challenge DISCUSSION THREAD
Like last year, I saw that no one had thrown up a thread for this challenge yet and went ahead and started it. I guess I've inherited this one from whomever used to host it. Sorry it's so last minute, but I've been busy and this challenge just popped into my head today because it's suppoed to start this weekend. Happy watching!

My thanks as well. I was wondering about this myself. But I was waiting a little longer to see if TheMonkees was going to do it. I’ve already been thinking of what to watch.

I think I'll start off tonight with The Santa Clause franchise. I haven't even looked at the new season of the show yet.

No checklists. Maybe next year. I generally don't like them, but I'll entertain it for next year if people want one. Just enjoy the holidays watching and relaxing. Checklists stress me out.

I have all my regular dvds and blurays and a bunch of titles I want to watch on streaming? Anyone ever watched Blood Rage? I've never seen it but I know its on Tubi. Its one of the few Thanksgiving horror movies out there.

Re: 19th Annual Holiday Challenge DISCUSSION THREAD
I gave it two and a half stars on Letterboxd (which is my usual score for an "average" movie, meaning I found it entertaining and I wasn't bored by it), but I rated it lower than most of the DVDTalkers I follow who've rated it, so I think you'll be "safe" to give it a look. If you're more adventurous, try Home Sweet Home (1981), but it doesn't appear to be streaming.

I just found Home Sweet Home on YouTube and it's the full movie so I'll watch that too.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I don't have the link handy, but if anyone wants to watch The Mouse on the Mayflower , a friend on Discord showed me a link on Dailymotion where it was available to watch yesterday.

Pauly Shore posted a really nice retrospective interview about Son In-Law to his YouTube Channel. I thought it would be worth sharing here.

Re: 19th Annual Holiday Challenge DISCUSSION THREAD
Just added myself to the list thread. For some reason, I had it in my head that the challenge started on Thanksgiving. But I managed to figure out what I'd watched from the 18th on thanks to my letterboxd diary. Love that thing!
All on board now. l've been watching most of the Hallmark releases. Catch Me If You Claus is my favorite so far. Another highlight was 12 Days of Tudor Christmas (PBS via Amazon), a new documentary about how the Tudors celebrated Christmas. Fun.
Gonna catch up by going back to read this whole thread....

I'm watching The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special for the second year in a row and I'm laughing just as hard this time as the first. Everything Drax says is comedy gold.

That's a Christmas special I didn't know existed. I'm watching Santa with Muscles right now. No matter what way you spin it it just sucks. It's kind of boring and Hulk can't act.

I loved that when it first came out. Worth a revisit. Last night I watched Genie (2023) on Peacock with Melissa McCarthy. Loved it! Very funny and heartfelt.

Im watching the animated Grinch movie from 2018 this morning and can say it's miles better than the Jim Carrey movie. It just works better in animated form.

Re: 19th Annual Holiday Challenge DISCUSSION THREAD
Totally agree. While the original is the best IMO, the Jim Carrey one is awful. He's so hard to watch. Granted, I dislike him in almost everything he's done, so I might be biased. The newer animated one isn't great, but it's a lot easier to watch for me than the Carrey one is.
