Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 19th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)
As always, it was an incredibly fun challenge. Until I added things up at the end, I didn't realize that it was my 15th challenge. Hard to believe. I'm pretty sure this was the first time I watched movies in 10 different languages (including English).
It's also fun to see how quickly the number of films viewed on UHD is rising on my lists. I realize this isn't a good time for physical media in general, but it's really a golden age for genre fans in a lot of ways. The wealth of 4k goodness we've received in the last year or two has been pretty amazing. That's not even mentioning finally getting long awaited upgrades of other titles, like Freaks, and more on the way.
To go along with that, I've seen a huge drop in number of things viewed on my DVR. Yes, I still have satellite service, but I didn't have a backlog of movies and didn't have any urgency to catch up on horror TV. I think I get closer to going all in with other challenges every year. I'm getting less interested in TV and more into film again. If the Criterion challenge wasn't in September, I'd be all over that. Instead, I'm clearing space on the DVR for the horror challenge.
Anyway, I'm getting myself distracted. Thanks to everyone for putting up with me. Thanks to everyone who had a list and everyone who participated in discussion. I had fun with the "what is horror" discussion even if I might have annoyed some people. I actually watched Basic Instinct last night. I stand by my earlier assertion that it's an American giallo film.

And thanks to Chad for all the work. I know we've offered before, but it bears repeating that many of us would help in the groundwork, find links, proofread sections or something. I look forward to this every year, and I do find it concerning to see the reduction in participants and discussion. If Chad didn't put in the work ahead of time, I worry if this would still get off the ground. Sorry, I didn't mean to get things all heavy, but it is something I've thought more about the last couple of years. I'd love to see this challenge continue and thrive.
So, again, thanks to everyone for another great challenge. Here's to doing it all again next year.

Finished with 150.5 ..
I usually take a week off and veg on reality tv that I missed and the edit, check other lists and finish my letterboxd.
As every year, I say to my wife... next year I'm only doing 31. And she says... oh, like last year. My wife hit 103 this year which she was happy about.

Curious about what the prints were for the Deadly Prey giveaway; that was a cool addition for sponsorship - hopefully the winners post their spoils. Congrats all.

I vote for Undeadcow for best list (but also for participation on the discussion threads). Undead's movie reviews are so erudite, I feel like a slub by comparison.
Congrats to the winners! And yay for the 2024 thread!

Voting Tarfirmer for best list - he tore through a bunch of movies and I appreciated the concise way he incorporated movie posters, small tidbits from the film, ratings, cast/crew, and even connected each to checklist items.
A close second was SterlingBen with his great reviews and additions of visuals, family commentary, etc.
Wow, thank you. I'm at a loss for words this time. Much appreciated.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 19th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)
Took a few days off to decompress. This was officially my tenth year, and I think it was one of the most enjoyable. I saw every manner of human depravity including sassy back-talking puppets, aerobicising zombies, deadly sushi, and Clooney on his way to the A-list. I had a ball with it all!
I too would love to see those random Ghana Giveaway posters!
I've started collecting movies for the next challenge, and hopefully by next year I will be more organized. Being a physical media person, I have trashed streaming in the past. I would admit that it does serve a good purpose for the challenge.
Thanks again to Chad for organizing our mischief and being our big toe. Thanks again to alyxstarr for help keeping me on track. Thanks to everyone in the discussion threads, I love reading the feedback and interpretations. I loved seeing that wall art.
I wish everyone here peace and contentment in the year to come.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 19th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)
Thanks again Chad, sponsors and everyone else for making it a great challenge this year! I was pretty happy with myself that I hit 104 films alone not counting any TV entries!
I completed and watched every subset film in the list which is the first time I think I have done that. I usually skipped movies I didn't like or had watched recently or just didn't feel like watching. I definitely learned that some movies are well worth revisiting and I truly enjoyed all the discussion in the Reviews section of the forum which gets zero love now during the rest of the year.
It makes me want to go back through every subset that has ever been done and just start revisiting them during the rest of the year or future challenges. Is there an easy quick list of all of them sitting somewhere that I overlooked instead of having to hit every single year and thread for them?
My vote for best list goes to SurfinHank. I love the TV Guide look and can't image how much works goes into that. But there are several other lists that are really just as amazing! The time and work some of you guys put into your lists...I have no idea how you even have the time to watch any films!
My finished stats are:
Final Tally: 110 entries
Movies: 104
TV Shows/Extras: 15 episodes/extras totaling 6 entries
Soundtracks/Various Horror Music Specials: 19
Podcasts: 5
Halloween themed events: 3
Books: 1
Comics: 11
First time viewings for movies: 62 (60%)
Decades for movies: 1910s - 0 (0%); 20s - 2 (2%); 30s - 1 (1%); 40s - 8 (8%); 50s - 3 (3%); 60s - 5 (5%); 70s - 14 (13%); 80s - 25 (24%); 90s - 7 (7%); 2000s - 9 (9%); 10s - 10 (9%); 20s - 20 (19%)
Formats: DVD - 3 (3%); Blu-ray - 31 (29%); UHD - 5 (5%); Streaming - 63 (61%); Theatrical - 2 (2%)
Challenges completed: 100 films; subset films; possibly others?

One final reminder to cast your votes for 'Best List'.
I'll keep the voting open until Friday night 11/10 to give it a week.
Thought this crowd might like this. Stumbled across Lenora's Midnight Rental, which is essentially an Elvira knockoff in a video store. Like In Search of Darkness you probably won't learn much outside of what you already know, but it's fun. Episode 6 is a two-parter on Tales from the Crypt w/ Bobcat Goldthwait and John Kassir that spans almost 3 hours. I enjoyed it, anyway.

A week late and just in time for no one checking the thread anymore is my Rundown:

This was a year marked by lady killers and evil pharmaceutical companies. Horror comedy really seemed to work well for me this year, the 80’s also were less of a crutch then normal but hitting my numbers turned out to be a slightly more arduous task than it had in years past. This was my 14th year of participation and my 14th year hitting the coveted 100+ mark. The 100 entries I watched were in 8 languages, hit every theme night but as per usual I did not complete the checklist requirements (individual crew member checks being my downfall).

I'm looking to see if I can fill in the checklist after the fact. I did purposely fill in the top half before challenge ended, but the bottom may be easy.
Has anyone not received the LE Exorcist 4K? I did order it through Amazon, but I'm not holding my breath as of this point.
