I just finished watching Mon Mon Mon Monsters and really enjoyed it. I particularly found the climax quite moving, and really enjoyed the morality play present throughout. It's like, who is the real monster?

Everyone, the picks for the September Halloween Giveaway are up! You can find them in the wiki of this thread.
I watched Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) as my pick, which I enjoyed more than I expected to. Blasphemy perhaps but Dracula has never been my favorite 'classic horror' story (fatigued by so many versions of the same story) and I'm not sure I ever watched Dracula (1992) all the way through. I thought it was well paced with ghastly practical effects. Gary Oldman is a master who brings a humanity to Dracula but Keanue Reeves (who admits to being off in the film) and Winona Ryder both seem a little too stoic. I don't usually like backstory but here Dracula as a 'Christian warrior' adds a lot more richness to the character and I liked the day walking aspect. The production values were refreshingly high but sometimes bordered on unintentionally funny camp cheesiness (stabbing a stone cross to drink random blood, etc). I remember being floored by Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (1994) years ago so might revisit that one soon.
Edit: The STD commentary is sometimes too on the nose but seems to make it a tad more socially relevent; although sometimes too casual like when Keanu and Winona (his wife) are casual discussing infidelities with demonic women over dinner (my wife would not be laughing or even calm).

When I first heard about Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) I thought "Why do we need yet *another* version of the story?" and completely avoided it for years. When I finally caved and watched it I was surprised at just how good it is! It quickly became my 2nd favorite version of the story, shoving Hammer's Dracula (1958) into 3rd place.
According to what I've read about the vfx - the only thing *not* done in-camera is the blue flames in the fields during the night carriage ride to the castle.

Watched Horror of Dracula, tonight and thought it was great. It moved along really quickly, and Lee was quite beastial in the role, no coy conversations with Van Helsing or anything, I thought that was refreshing. I also really liked that it was cold in a lot of scenes, I got that nice autumn chill from the movie.
Lee Dracula also kept a much nicer castle than Bela Dracula, and now I'm starting to think Bela Dracula is a bit of a slob.

Anyone here been to the Halloween Horror Nights activities at Universal?
My son just started college in Orlando and we are going to visit him next month and he mentioned the Horror Nights fest so we may attend one of the nights.
Is one night enough? Is it worth the money if we are already going to be down there? Any other tips and/or thoughts would be appreciated from those here that have been before.

Red case reminder. No idea if they're doing another Halloween sale this year, but just happy these should actually arrive Pre-Halloween. A Haunted Turkish Bath House is calling my name. Actually, all four of them are.

Have fun man.
As for Universal itself, we spent one day in one park, one day in the other and then we floated between the two on the third.
I’d like to go back one of these days. I went to the L.A. one too soon after my divorce. That was a poor choice.

The Werewolf By Night (2022) trailer dropped. Lookin' goooood.
Tons of references/homages in the trailer and probably the movie..? One I haven't seen yet, is that there's at least a dash of everyone's favorite 70's werewolf whodunit, The Beast Must Die (1974). Also (Giant Size) Man-Thing!
It's 60 minutes (qualifies for minimum movie length), rated TV-14 (so it's got some edge). I say let's just call it a Original Net Movie (what we would have called a TV Movie in the last millennia). Available on Disney + on October 7th and hopefully Blu not too long after.

I’d be in for this too…still three weeks in September after all
Here is everyone I have marked as participating for a random September watch (Alphabetical order). Please let me know if you would like to be added or removed.
In case you missed it: To win one of the IB prize packs this year, you must watch a randomly assigned horror movie during the month of September and let me know when you've done so. Once this is completed, you will be entered to win and I'll send out the prizes mid-October.
P.S. I have already assigned films for those listed and 5 of you are "taking the bullet"

I watched the movie that was picked for me, Cell, and it was actually pretty good. I thought the premise was interesting and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

fiver, for your crime of late arrival against the State of DVDTalk, you have been sentenced* to watch the film Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child
*By which I mean, I went to my Letterboxd, filtered horror films, blind-pressed a sorting method, and then blind-pressed a random film after scrolling erratically. I didn't look at my screen after filtering horror, so you could have just as easily gotten... I don't know... Society or The Shining
