I saw Part 2 on video way back in the late 80s, and never saw it a second time until two years ago, and I was blown away by how frightening and grotesque Freddy is in it. I've watched it a couple more times since then, and I think it's the best version of Freddy in the series. Part 3 starts to straddle the line by giving him more personality, and afterwards the movies are engineered so the audience is rooting for him. The part that sticks out to me most in Part 2 is after Freddy kills Brady, and the scene lingers on Jesse's sorrow at what Freddy has just forced him to do. It's an emotionally strong moment, and you don't think of Freddy as "fun" during it.

Well I haven't really been keeping count this year like I would have liked to but I only watched a few minutes of Terrfier as it's free to watch on Vudu before turning it off. Not a lot shocks me but I got this feeling of dread starting to watch it and wasn't sure if I could continue. Outside of a few movies I don't really like the torture porn genre.

Just hit 100 for the first time in all the years i've been participating. Don't feel like I did anything differently this year, took the last week of the month off like I've been doing the last few years. Maybe I was just able to push through the period where I start to get overwhelmed by only watching horror movies. For #100, I decided to just unwrap and watch my Halloween III 4k since my wife insisted on watching the first Halloween with the Rifftrax commentary. I didn't want to rewatch it again so soon just to get the 4k and I just didn't watnt to watch the 2,4, and 5 without seeing the first one in 4k...so here we are. Perhaps I just wanted to get the Silver Shamrock commercial jingle in my head right before bedtime, that's always fun too.
I haven't decided if I'm going to push through hard on the last five days of the month and see where I get or start to mix in more non-horror stuff. Guess I'll keep going and see where I end up.

Fortunately was able to remain completely in the dark about it, which is what I highly recommend. One thing I was wondering:
Spoiler:
Has anyone seen the movie Hellbender? It's on Shudder, and has gotten rave reviews. Those I've been fooled by that before.

I had the best time watching him. His obliviousness to how awful a person he is makes him hysterically funny. I was dying laughing the sequence where he's creaming his jeans over how far the tape measure is running.

So NOPE finally just dropped to $5.99 on Amazon. Just in time for cosmic horror night! We'll be seeing that one this evening.
That was hysterical-- him measuring right past the cages with empty bowls. And then...

Plan on leaving work early today to get in some recommendations. Aquaslash (2019) actually sounds right up my alley, so that and Barbarian are high on my list today. I'm hovering around 90 currently, so I should hit 100 by Sunday, hopefully. I'm a bit ready for the marathon to be over, but I'm a little sad that it's coming to an end.

Today’s theme brought me to a new-to-me film, and probably my favorite film of the month so far.
Spring (2014), it’s on Shudder

Ugh, watched Barbarians (2021) instead of the good one. I kept on trying to figure out what everyone was smoking with the heavy recommendations. I’ll watch the better one tomorrow. At least it was horror...
Aquaslash was a good time well spent.

He has a new one out -- House of Darkness (2022). I haven't seen it though, so not sure about the reference.
We watched NOPE (2022) tonight. I'd been waiting for the price to drop, which it just did. It was as good as I'd anticipated. Fun movie.

Watched the Woodlands Dark and Days Bewitched doc yesterday, and I'll echo all the previous positive comments. It's bloody fantastic. And there's not much in the way of spoilers if you're holding back from not finishing the Severin set. From recollection the only major ones are Midsommar, The Witch, Hereditary, Ganja & Hess, the unholy trinity (Witchfinder General, Blood on Satan's Claw, The Wicker Man) and Pendor's Fenn, at least that's all I can recall.
Spoilers to two films here...

My House of Insane Women set came today just in time for tomorrow’s theme night.
Trying to figure out if I want to put myself through more Art the Clown tonight.... opinions?

I saw Psycho Goreman tonight, as it was part of the theatre's line-up of Halloween movies. It was a strange experience, because I didn't know nearly the entire movie had been shot here where I live, St. Catharines, Ontario. The movie is playing, and suddenly I'm seeing neighborhoods and downtown shops and wooded areas I pass through every day. Was great at the end, seeing PG destroying the downtown like Godzilla. Far as I know, this is the only movie shot fully here. First one I've ever seen.
Besides the location distraction, I thought the movie was a hoot. I loved all the influences it drew from. The father is now one of my favorite supporting characters of all time.

I took part in a double feature watch party on Discord last night, two vastly different movies. We opened with Nightmare Before Christmas , a personal favorite of mine. After that, we watched M. Night Shymalan’s (sp) classic The Sixth Sense , to which I had never actually seen the entire movie, so was caught unaware by the ending.

That's quite the feat considering how much the ending is referenced in pop-culture! I was blindsided by the ending when it came it 23 years ago. Glad you had the opportunity to experience the ending blind.

I’m about 2/3 of the way through Fright Night Part 2 (1988). First time I’ve watched this in many years. Watched the first one all the time, but I remembered this one being terrible. While it’s not good, it’s not nearly as bad as I remember. Charley Brewster has to be one of the dumbest protagonists in horror movie history, though. Also, Alex is an upgrade over Marcy D’Arcy.

Many wouldn’t count it as horror, but I took today’s theme as a chance to finally watch Black Swan. Not sure why I waited so long, always love Aronofsky.

Vinegar Syndrome comes through once again giving me my new Italian oddball discovery - Blood Delirium. Giving TCM2 and Naschy the 4K treatment was the icing on the cake.
The Kindred was a hoot. It takes awhile to get going, but showcases some very impressive practical effects work once the third act kicks in.
I think it's alright, but don't get this new movement calling it an underrated classic. It can't hold a candle to the original. Tommy Lee Wallace is even on the current episode of Post Mortem with Mick Garris saying he considers it his best film. Okay.

Yeah, it’s not a classic by any means. I had it as a 4/10 on IMDb, but I think I’ll upgrade to about 6. The first one is tons better for sure. But there’s some things I like about it, such as Alex, who’s a stronger female than Amy in the first one. Plus, I always love Jon Gries being unhinged, and the understated fear that Brian Thompson puts out there.
