I keep stumbling on movies I've already seen that I likely forgot at a glance because they were so questionable - like The Swarm or All the Colors of the Dark (later has some potential). It's making me question my own sanity and I'm going to have to start cross checking my list from last year.

Watched The Hills Have Eyes last night, and was shocked it had a completely different ending than the one that had been burned into my memory when I saw it back in the 90s. I remember the movie ending in the middle of a fight, on a close-up of the family man as he savagely beat the hill-person to death, only for it to freeze-frame, then turn a deep red before cutting to credits. The lack of any narrative resolution made it really disturbing, I don't believe I'd ever seen a film end like that before.
The ending now is more conventional, and probably satisfying, but I was waiting for the ending I remember, and surprised it never happened. I did a Google check to make sure this wasn't something I remembered incorrectly.

From the text on the back it sounds more like "Lord of the Flies" is the biggest influence - but they mention Carpenter (nothing specific so, like you, I'm guessing "Escape from New York"), "Mad Max" and "Waterworld." Plus, "Oliver Twist"(?!?) is mentioned on Kino's web site description. After watching a trailer I'm expecting something along the lines of a much lesser "Lord of the Flies" in a distopian environment...

The mid-week reminder.
Sunday Night Trivia Question #1
A celebration of the master of the macabre.
May 27, 2022 marked the 100th birthday of the legendary late actor Sir Christopher Lee. Yesterday we payed tribute to him via a theme day, and he's the star of two subsets. You've probably already seen the countless Internet memes about his greatness, which includes releasing four heavy metal albums, his stellar military service, holding a few Guinness World Record titles and being the inspiration for James Bond. For our purposes, he played the character of Dracula nine times, starred in 85+ genre films, hosted his own horror anthology series and a documentary about ...100 Years of Horror. He shares a birthday on the same day with Vincent Price, and one day after his partner-in-crime Peter Cushing.
Name 3 of your favorite Christopher Lee films. Any genre.
A list to refresh your memory.
That's it. There are no right or wrong answers. Randomly drawn. USA only please.
You're playing for the very well-stacked Hamilton Book Prize Pack #1!
One extremely lucky winner will receive (USA only please):

Submit your answers to me via PM or email (one entry per person).
Contest is open until next Sunday's trivia question begins.
Good luck!

I had one of those eureka moments tonight with a first time view of Night of the Demons. Not sure why I've never seen it before, but anyway, beware because I'm going to take a trip down memory lane.
Way back in high school, I remember going with a friend to this Vietnam vet's place. His house was way out in the middle of nowhere. No one else around. The story was that he participated in government experiments with psychedelics or something along those lines. He was a really cool guy, though. Huge record collection of a lot of classics from which he'd let me make requests.
I know, I know. A lot of needless details, but we also talked movies as well. I think I commented on a Blondie album once, something like that, which got him on Debbie Harry, which led to him vividly describing Videodrome to me and raving about it. But when I finally saw it years later, one of the scenes that he described that really stuck with me wasn't in it. Over the years, I sometimes wondered if it was a scene from another movie or just a creation of his tripped out mind, but I never bothered to look it up. And then eureka! He must have combined a scene in Night of the Demons with his Videodrome description!
For those curious on the scene, obviously mild spoilers will follow:

Just got back from a double feature at the theater: Spirit Halloween and Terrifier 2.
Spirit Halloween was a generic horror movie with a few bright spots, but completely forgettable.
Terrifier 2 was a grisly gorebath and awesome. Art the Clown is a sick, twisted individual. But he was also pretty darkly funny. Much better than the original movie, but not everything made complete sense. I'm guessing they're leaving some stuff for sequels. Sienna is one of my favorite final girls now as well. Long as hell, but never boring. And now I've got the Clown Cafe jingle stuck in my head.

I am going through all the Hellraiser films this month and watched Hellraiser Bloodline (Pinhead In Space) and it really wasn't as bad as I had remembered it. I think it gets a bad rep because of the space element but honestly, the story in Bloodline makes way more sense than Hellbound. It just doesn't have the imagination that Hellbound has. And Part 3 (Hell On Earth) has such silliness in it, that I thought it was slightly better than that one.
Granted, Bloodline has it share of poor production values, bad CG, and terrible acting. It isn't perfect but Pinhead is quite good in it, and it has the best make-up on a female Cenobite, in my opinion.

Today sees the release of three things I really want to watch. The Midnight Club on Netflix (Mike Flannagan--I loved Midnight Mass), Significant Other on Paramount, and Beast with Idris Alba on Peacock. I won't get to them all today, but hopefully at least one.
Since it's Found Footage day, I plan to watch Deadstream on Shudder. It's getting decent reviews on Letterboxd.

I cannot get over Art the Clown's design. It looks simultaneously looks super cheap and try-hard. I had the same issue with the 2017 Pennywise (minus the cheapness). I think "scary clown" is something overdone and just super hard to get right. I won't watch the movies simply based on how stupid Art looks.

I had a brief thought about trying to collect all of our subset selections on disc, but realized that must be over 300 films by now, and shelved the idea. Or I guess won’t be shelving it.

Anxiously looking forward to the second horror binge shut-in weekend of the month. I'm debating going through the Friday the 13th series or doing a Stephen King marathon, but not sure what I'll settle on, if even those two choices.

I received a shipping notification from Severin for the House of Psychotic Women set. I know there have been production delays. I'm relieved it should be here this month. If you ordered, you should hear something soon if you haven't already.
