How you watch your film is up to you. I'm not asking questions .If you cannot watch your assigned film for financial reasons (some are rental only) or just really don't want to spend $3 for a shot at winning some Blu-rays, let me know and I'll assign you another film (likely not from the previously-posted list). I cannot legally obligate you to spend money on this and I also ethically won't do it.

P.S. Streaming Platforms are as of August 30th. I don't know what will change in Spetember, but you can always take a look at https://www.justwatch.com/

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 18: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

I gotta admit I'm a little jealous of my 2017 self, who was unemployed and did nothing but watch horror movies all October of that year. Now, I have a good job and won't have anything but nights and weekends to binge. Still hoping to hit at least 200, however.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 18: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

My movies are organized by genre and director (if it’s a favorite and I own a bunch). For the last week whenever I go in to pick something out I can hear that part of my collection calling.
I’m in the moon to watch so many new pickups but I must refrain for two more weeks.

Noting here that maybe next year Requels might not an interesting theme or checklist item.
A movie which revisits the subject matter of an earlier film but is not a remake or a linear continuation of its plot

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 18: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

I'm planning to hit up the drive-in again tonight. This week's lineup: Fall and Pearl. I'm a bit surprised that Fall only has a thriller tag and not horror, but it looks like it should have some good suspenseful moments. I thought X was pretty good, so I'm looking forward to Pearl.

Maybe I'm missing something, but aren't many of the ones on that list linear continuations? Or is it no longer considered linear if it has been a long time since the last movie?

I suppose what might make them non-linear is that after, for example, Ghostbusters II the second film is completely ignored and events in Ghostbusters: Afterlife follow the plot of Ghostbusters 1 as if it alone existed (there is a zig zag over Ghostbusters II); or that a subsequent film occurs without any reference to a(ny) previous installment(s). Blair Witch (2016) ignores Book of Shadows and Im not sure even too much references Blair Witch 1 (2009). Ringu famously has a series of totally different sequels and retcons that is linear in some places but with a lot of tinkering.

I thought the whole plot of Blair Witch is that it's Heather's brother trying to find her. So shouldn't Book of Shadows be the non-linear sequel? How are Scream and Twin Peaks non-linear sequels? Aren't both ust continuations years later? I'm not opposed to the idea, I'm just not sure I totally get the criteria from the description you gave and looking at that list. Many of the films on that list are linear continuations of the plots. Again, maybe I'm reading too much into it.

Perhaps you are correct; to be honest I copied that description from another site and at a glance it looked correct. My inpression is that some of these films are subsequent sequels that return to an earlier point to resume from before a later film. For example the new Jeepers Creepers is set after JC 2 but before JC3 (so essentially ignores JC3 even if it eventually feeds into JC3).

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 18: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

Finally got around to watching my assigned September film, Troll 2.

I have seen Troll 2 four times now. i watched the Eureka Blu Ray which looks amazing. Ive listened to all the audio commentaries. This most recent watch has me coming to the conclusion that this "Good Bad Film" doesn't hold up to repeat viewings. The novelty of seeing over acting/bad acting along with alot of silly one liners simply falls flat once you have seen it multiple times. Its still a fun movie, but it became a slog for me to get through this fourth watch.
5/10

And here are the theatrical, VOD, streaming and physical media titles for the 'theatrical' theme/subset thread, and with spaces this time so I don't screw up the formatting. As usual, for the sources I've used both UpcomingHorrorMovies and the IMDB as they compliment each other well. One always misses something the other doesn't. Missing anything?

Today marks 10 terrifying years of Scream Factory! We released our first two films, HALLOWEEN II and HALLOWEEN III:...

Posted by Scream Factory on Sunday, September 18, 2022

Looks like Vinegar Syndrome isn't the only boutique label in town celebrating their 10th anniversary. Added Scream Factory to the anniversary section of the checklist.

A couple of subsets joining and leaving streaming...

Crimes of the Future will be streaming on Hulu October 31st.

WNUF Halloween Special is leaving Shudder and AMC+ on October 4th according to this Letterboxd account. It's also currently available on YouTube.

Spoiler:

Thanks to orlmac for the head's up on the latter.

Both updated on the streaming/physical media guide.

The production design is so striking. I have Tarsem Singh's follow-up, The Fall, on my watchlist.

The drive-in continues to bring it. Barbarian will be showing Friday along with Pearl. I wouldn't mind seeing Pearl again. I hope this continues in October. I'm pretty sure it's at least going to get Halloween Ends.

Chad are you still working on the placement for the subset nights and theme nights. I’m an idiot I know, but the posts don’t seem to match up.

Alright, this is getting insane, but hopefully this will be the last update...

Today is the 100th birthday of the very much alive Bert I. Gordon. Added to the anniversary section of the checklist.
