Quite a few of the movies Iíve watched have been on YouTube. Mostly older movies from a channel I subscribe to called Classic Horror Movies, but two of my theme movies have also been on YouTube. Both the original Dawn Of The Dead and Killdozer.

I watched Motel Hell today and decided to take a break the rest of the day as I was starting to get burnt.

I watched the House on Sorority Row for the first time with my girlfriend the other night, loved it...I also finally watched the Suspiria remake, at the time I didn't know what I thought...but it has stuck with me and I want to rewatch it ASAP for sure.

In their 3rd year of sponsorship...

Big thank you to DVD Talk / Internet Brands (Joel Morris) for assembling five "mystery boxes" from their "archives" (unreviewed pool) to give away consisting of such labels as MVD, Arrow, Cult Epics, Severin, Cinedigm and Scream Factory!

A preview to whet your appetite:

For anyone who is interested, V/H/S/94 (2021) is now streaming on Shudder.

I'm about 40-minutes into the film and enjoying it thus far.

Doing pretty well a week into the Challenge. If I can keep this pace, I'll make 50 entries for sure. We'll see how it goes. After I finish Castlevania (three more eps to go, it's really good, but I'm pacing myself so far), I'm going to start Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness.

Gut punch. Didn't get that job whose interview felt like a slam dunk last week but at least it's still October. Going to sneak in one more school related movie for tonights theme, 1981's Night Class.

Sorry to hear that, SterlingBen. It really sucks when a job that is a perfect fit goes sideways. A better opportunity will come soon. Thinking good thoughts for you.

Did a rewatch of Jennifer's Body for the school theme last night. I liked it better than the first time I saw it. Maybe it was the 86" TV

Watched I was a Teenage Werewolf. Michael Landon combined with the makeup was a very good werewolf. I would love to see Scream Factory do a double feature release for this one and I was a Teenage Frankenstein. Wonder why those two films have not had a release?

Two words: Susan Hart.
Hart is the widow of AIP producer James Nicholson and she owns the rights to those two movies and 9 other AIP titles. She has refused to license out those movies to media companies, so they remain unseen. Last year there were rumors that Hart and Shout Factory were close to signing a licensing deal, but so far nothing concrete has materialized.

Is that one of those cases where someone just wants too much for how much the movies will make for the distributor?

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 17th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

I hit 25 last night. I don't think I'll be able to keep this pace up all month, but I will hopefully get to 100.

For the School's Out theme, I watched Cutting Class, Detention (2011), and Happy Death Day 2 U (2019). Cutting Class was the first, which was probably for the best. It might not have fared as well after the other two, but I enjoyed it. Decent mystery misdirection and script. Detention.... I dunno. I liked the brash style at first, but when the plot took a turn 3/4 through into the whole time travel thing, it lost me. It just got a little too absurd. Felt like it was trying to copy Cabin in the Woods with such a big change in direction (they were both released 2011, so probably not). I loved Happy Death Day and 2U was good also but didn't quite match #1, probably because the concept felt so fresh and original the first time out. Still, they did a good job of coming up with new plot elements (i.e. Sissy).

On to femme fatales today.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 17th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

Anyone else ever pull a and watch the wrong movie by mistake? So many horror movies have similar names and premises. By the time I realize my mistake I've already invested the effort of finding the movie and some time in viewing. And when I'm doing the challenge, I hate to "throw away" time already spent.

I wanted to watch Witchboard which I had never seen, and was supposed to be solid fun ... kind of the like the director's Night of the Demons (which I watched for the first time last year). Instead I watched Witchtrap ... same director, same time period. Which may have the worst acting and writing I've ever seen in a movie (and I've seen Tommy Wiseau's The Room). And despite some funny moments, it didn't cross over to the "so bad it's good" level for me because it was so talky and dull. Although I read about a production problem for the movie where the entire audio was accidentally destroyed and they had to rerecord and dub everything. Still not a complete excuse, since that was pretty much how all Italian movies were done at that time.

I remember liking the commentary for Witchtrap more than the movie.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 17th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

Haven't really be able to get involved too much this year so far, but hoping that changes today!
I finally took a look at the subset and theme list, and it looks great! But when I first looked for today, I saw the image on the left and thought today's subset was Lady Terminator and got really excited - that is such a fun movie!
However, I quickly realized my mistake and saw that rbrown498 actually chose Carrie, which is one of my absolute favorites! Hoping I can pull off a double feature of both tonight.

I just finished Blood Of Dracula , which was on Svengoolie a couple weeks ago for todayís theme. I didnít know too much about what to expect, but I really enjoyed it. Svengoolie mentioned that it was in the same series as both I Was A Teenage Werewolf and I Was A Teenage Frankenstein. At the end he even said how the hypnosis theme was the same as I Was A Teenage Werewolf. He also commented that it was the first American vampire movie where the vampire was shown with fangs.

By the way, the link to the Women in Horror Exhibition at UT-Knoxville is wrong. The correct one is:
https://libguides.utk.edu/womeninhorror
Sounds like a terrific program; wish I was there!

Finished up The Clovehitch Killer (2018).

A much quieter film that I was expecting,

Performances are good (especially from Dylan McDermott & Charlie Plummer) but the film lacks the commitment to elevate itself to something more memorable.

I've been enjoying Creepshow season 3 so far. The series is definitely hit or miss, and obviously not up to the quality of either film, but it can be quite entertaining. Both parts of the first episode were its best yet (IMO), and the very meta "Skeletons in the Closest" from ep 2 was loads of fun with nods to Ray Harryhausen, Phantasm, etc. Joe Dante mentioned in an interview that he was approached to direct an episode, but declined due to budgetary constraints and a rushed production schedule. It amazes me that AMC will grant sizeable budgets to their own shows while Shudder programming gets pocket change in comparison.

I watched Carrie as part of the subset picks and then the Carrie made for tv remake from 2003. Anybody caught that one? Angela Bettis was good, not as good as Sissy Spacek. The movie is a shot for shot remake with a bunch of police interrogation inserts that pads out the running time past 2 hours. I can't understand (beside money) why supposedly creative people want to just copy what has already been done shot for shot

I wasn’t even aware of the Bettis one. I knew about the one from 2013.
