Subset list is looking fantastic so far...

3 subset volunteers needed.

Currently there's 28 volunteers with 22 that have given picks.

Post 9 is currently not updated as of this post. (working on it)

Also need more feedback on this. Please don't force me to create another poll!

It's my obsession so I will be happy with what is decided.

Personally I'll probably try for seeing one from each season but it might be nice to keep the threshold for subsets at a minimum so they seem approachable for newbies or lightweights.
For the same reason it might be worth considering condensing Chronological Years down maybe just one anniversary date (at least 100 years is kind of a stretch).

Speaking of upcoming polls...

Any Crossover recommendations?
We only have a couple of comedy picks and nothing for the new 9/30 Indie/Arthouse crossover.

Links are now horror-centric, FYI.

9/30 Indie/Arthouse Crossover
Arrow / Criterion / Criterion Channel / Film Movement / Kino Lorber / Kino Now / Milestone Films / Mubi / Oscilloscope Laboratories / Powerhouse Films / Indicator / Sundance Now

11/1 Horror Comedies Crossover, 2

I vote for just one. 4 Seasons is mighty broad, and it would work as another open night to watch what one wants.

11/1 Horror Comedies Crossover, 2

My crossover picks:
Indie-Arthouse; Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956), It's available on multiple platforms, including Prime and Paramount+, and most horror fans have it in their collections.
Comedy: Ready or Not (2019)

I think doing all 4 seasons would work well on the marathon day, since that's a day a lot of people will be watching multiple movies...

As far as crossover picks, my votes go to
Beyond the Black Rainbow (2010) - indie/arthouse
The Babysitter (2017) - comedy

Baby Blood

Wacko - For comedy crossover

For the 4 Seasons of Death, I'm ok with it just being 1 movie. I will probably watch 4 but a lot of people might not be able to.

1 - Personally, I’ll try to hit all 4 seasons. For the checklist, though, I think we should keep it specific to just 1 season.

I'm finding it hard to break from September being the Criterion month. I was thinking about The Living Skeleton from the Eclipse Box, or Pan's Labyrinth, which I still have not seen.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

I vote for one movie for the season theme. I also would recommend one movie for the chronological theme because I feel like the movies selected for that day usually get less overall participation since it's more diluted.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

It won't disappoint in that regard. In fact, I should probably apologize in advance for what's on it.

That also reminds me I'll be posting the discussion thread in a couple or so days.

Comedy Crossover: Little Monsters (2019) - I know a lot of us bought this from Hamilton Book over the past few months

Indie Crossover - Last month I caved on Vampyr, so that's what I am doing for the indie crossover, glad I won't have to look at the 15 Horror titles available from criterion and bite the bullet anymore.

Chad 08-29-21 09:06 PM

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

 • 1 subset volunteer needed!
• One final reminder to submit your crossover picks if you haven't already. I'll be putting those up for vote very soon.
• Also one last 4 seasons reminder. It was brought up that if we do have four picks to attach it to the mass marathon day, which is always on a Saturday. That's no problem.

I know this isn't the chat thread but is anyone else going to be watching a lot of horror based TV shows/Halloween specials in September, again?

I started doing it last year when someone brought up the idea and it was a lot of fun.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

I think I'll probably start early again like we did last year. I enjoyed having theme nights on those couple of weeks before the "official" start.
