Just a suggestion here for the RIP list. I would disregard anyone that only has 1-3 horror movies to their name. Kind of makes it difficult to 1) find that movie and 2) rent that movie if everyone is trying to rent it But like I said, it's just a suggestion.

That's the rough cut version. I'll eventually post them in order, and the cutoff is usually at 2 and over. But yeah, I can exclude those that are under 4, just need some more feedback from people.

I was going to suggest the idea, but I found that it was already done in 2015... I'd love School's Out... Forever to make a return.

Also maybe Deadly Tumbleweeds (Desert Horror) could be a fun one. Or Deadly Tropics

Added Deadly Tumbleweeds to post 6. The latter I'll have to get back to you. It sounds very familiar, but I could be wrong.

The closest I found was deserted islands (which isn’t quite the same), but I may have missed something.

Blood on the Beach was a theme in 2018. We have also done travel/vacation. Those seem to be the other closest ones.

We also did a Jungle Horrors (paired w/ killer monkeys and gorillas) in 2013. The only difference with the island theme is the 'deserted' part, but that wasn't entirely accurate. Quite a few of those were with inhabitants. With this one it's "horror films featuring the jungle/rain forest or on an island", so looks like we've already covered it all. But hey, if I'm wrong let me know.

A reminder there's no rule saying when voting for returning themes that you can't combine a couple (or more) older themes together to form a combo theme.

Anyone else from the RIP list that should be on the theme suggestions list? All we have is Julie Strain. There aren't really any horror icons that have passed this time (knock on wood), especially compared to last year's with John Saxon, Stuart Gordon and Ennio Morricone.

We have had a few audio commentary themes over the years but never a Historian/Film Critic Audio Commentary theme (fairly sure). Maybe as a combo with Documentaries because I know there are some commentary haters out there.

I know we've had historian commentaries in the checklist before, but I don't recall a specific theme on it.

As a counterpoint to No One Dies, how about movies where everyone dies.https://www.imdb.com/list/ls058962520/

This one seems familiar, but I can't find if we've done this before.

Whoa! Didn't expect a barrage of last-minute suggestions.

A reminder theme voting starts tonight, and it'll probably be late night considering there's still a few to go.

I think a theme version of 'Masters of Commentary' could work on its own as long as listening to the actual commentary is optional. There's also quite a few MIA from the original checklist entries.

Stephen Thrower (some are video and booklet essays):
https://thedigitalbits.com/tag/stephen-thrower

Kim Newman has to be on there.

Kat Ellinger, David Kalat, Amanda Reyes ...who else?

Here's the past links from the checklist. A few are RMC links (or taken from) and are probably not up-to-date:

Joe Bob Briggs
John Carpenter
Larry Cohen
Joe Dante
Herschell Gordon Lewis
Tim Lucas
George A. Romero
Guillermo del Toro
David del Valle

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

For the past three years now we've had 5 themes based on books with Studies In Terror, Heavy Metal Movies, Nightmare USA, Paperbacks from Hell, and Analog Nightmares. This year we have a couple suggestions with The Ultimate Guide to Strange Cinema and Suburban Grindhouse. Gotta say I love the book-related ones, and some were chosen by what's on my bookshelf, while the others compelled me to go out and buy the actual book each time. Maybe we should make this a reoccurring theme with a new book every year? Just thinking out loud as I prep this.

A lot of those seem to be Directors commentating on their own movies, admittedly well. The idea I was getting at would be someone not involved with the film at all that is doing a commentary on it (like what Joe Bob did, not on his show but on his DVD audio commentaries). A few examples that pop to mind would be the commentary on Creature From The Black Lagoon, Godzilla & Day Of The Dead. Alas a bit of a lack of internet lists on the subject but it is a feature I am seeing a lot on pre 90's horror.

No problem. I'll exclude directors and stick with film historians and the like. I'll probably have to tack on the documentary theme to pad as per your earlier suggestion since we'll most likely have to compile some of these. Rate That Commentary seems to be the only good all-in-one list source but doesn't look to have been updated in years.

Yeah, they've done some Vinegar Syndrome, Arrow and other commentaries. Also an Amanda Reyes connection there.

The Hysteria Continues Commentaries:
https://letterboxd.com/thccommentari...taries/detail/ (49 titles)

All films covered on The Hysteria Continues
https://letterboxd.com/biscottikyle/...tinues/detail/ (249 titles)

The last one will make a good companion link to the slasher theme since its now separate.

Female Killers (Ladies Who Kill) ~ No One Dies

It's been brought up these two themes contain spoilers. They're both currently on post 6. If the majority wants them removed, I will need more feedback. I'm fine with whatever decision is made, but I'm not making it myself as I've gotten flack for doing so in the past. There's also the option of changing the former to Female Protagonist, which is at 697 titles.
