1) The Revenant (2015) - Leonardo DiCaprio plays Hugh Glass, a frontiersman who, in 1823, was attacked by a bear and left for dead by the rest of his party, but survived and tracked down the man who killed his son. This is based on a purportedly true story, but in the story I read, there was no mention of a son (or Indians pursuing Glass and the others, or French trappers), and Glass basically followed the guy through hundreds of miles of wilderness to retrieve his favorite rifle, which the guy took when he left him for dead (but I can see why they would add that stuff to the movie's story for dramatic effect).
6/8/21
2) Selma (2014) - The events leading up to the 1965 voting rights march from Selma to Montgomery led by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (David Oyelowo) are shown.
3) Man in the Wilderness (1971) - Another movie version of the Hugh Glass story. Richard Harris plays Zachary Bass, a frontiersman who in 1820 is left for dead after being attacked by a bear, only to survive and track down the men who left him behind.

6) The Wereth Eleven (2011) - Documentary (made up of actual footage, interviews, and re-enactments) about a group of African American soldiers with the 333rd field artillery battalion - fighting in Belgium in December, 1944, just before the Battle of the Bulge - who were captured, then escaped, but were later captured by SS troops who tortured and slaughtered them.

7) The Silent Enemy (1958) - In 1941, after British ships are sunk in the Mediterranean Sea by a team of Italian frogmen, an explosives expert is sent to Gibraltar to put together his own diving team, find the enemy's secret base, and shut them down.

10) Cease Fire (1953) - This film, shot in Korea, focuses on a group of infantrymen (played by actual soldiers) on a scouting mission, and a couple of war correspondents covering the latest peace talks in Panmunjom, at the end of the Korean War in 1953...in 3D!

11) Dunkirk (2017) - In 1940, thousands of British soldiers are trapped on the beach at Dunkirk (between advancing German forces to the east and the English Channel to the west) until a flotilla of civilian boats arrives to rescue them.
