The Detroit Institute of Arts typically does a showing of all the nominated shorts and this year, it's virtual. $12 for an individual category or $30 for all three categories (though to be fair, 3 of the 5 documentary shorts are available for free online).
If you're interested, https://www.dia.org/oscarshorts21
I really want to see Two Distant Strangers so I might pony up the $12 for the live action short category.

even though I was watching the new 4K UHD of 'The Ten Commandments' with the commentary track (which I had not heard before and is on the bluray edition) the transfer and particularly the enhanced Dolby Vision color grading is nothing short of breathtaking - wow ... just wow!!!

So I've been on a kick of re-watching super long movies. I really need to invest in the theatrical editions of LOTR because the extended editions are just too damn long.
Today I have a long film that won Best Picture and Best Director but probably shouldn't have won (Titanic) and a long film that didn't win Best Picture or Best Director but probably should have (Apocalypse Now). I don't know if I could have picked two more polar opposite films if I tried.

Updated my "How To See The 2020 Oscar Nominees At Home Before The Big Night" post above.
The last two holdouts are now on there. It looks like this is the first time that all 41 feature film nominees will be available for digital viewing before Oscar Night!

This should be easy credit as far as the amount of people that are able to watch it. I just wanted to throw out there that tomorrow night is ABCs annual Easter showing of The Ten Commandments.

Wow, I totally forgot about this. I've been too busy adopting old DVD/Blu-ray collections from people, inheriting almost 400 movies. I guess I should look through them and see which ones qualify for the challenge!

I just saw the Shorts - Live and Animated this morning - I loved the weirdness of "Opera" but I'm thinking the Oscar will go to "If Anything Happens, I Love You". As to the Live Action shorts, my two faves were "The Letter Room" and "Feeling Through"

Updated the "How To Watch..." post.
A couple more ways to watch some more shorts.
And "Quo Vadis, Aida" has been added to Hulu!

I enjoyed that a lot. The top comment on YouTube gives a very eloquent summery of the short, comparing it to an interesting quote by Proust.

I went in blind in watching 'The Man Who Sold His Skin' - what a really odd premise and where the plot weaves and goes - the cinematography is excellent and the cast is perfect !

I just watched all five of the Documentary Short Subjects this morning: the ones I liked the most were 'Hunger Ward' and 'A Concerto is a Conversation'

I haven't watched nearly as much this month as I would have liked, but this last week, I think I will watch more movies. Didn't feel like sleeping tonight, so watched one of my favorite movies on Google Play, The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring. Tonight, I couldn't help thinking how sad the movie really is, especially with the moving score in various scenes. But then, maybe one's mood can color the view of a movie. After all, my mood is very grumpy tonight.

Was too tired last night to continue the LoTR trilogy, but am watching The Two Towers right now. I always enjoyed how from the second movie on with how Merry and Pippin had to grow up fast. Thus the movie also made Gimli the comic relief.

Watched a movie called Bad Girl last night from 1931, which won for director. The only early 30s movie I can remember seeing is stuff like Dracula, so I was surprised with how polished the camera work was in this movie, really nice tracking shots, following the characters from one room to another... The story is at the level of a sit-com (Oh no, this madly in love couple is confused, he thinks she doesn't want to have a baby, she thinks he doesn't want to have a baby), yet it found many unique visuals, and interesting moments, like a great scene of a random woman using a payphone in the lobby of her creepy apartment to report the death of her elderly mother.
The movie is available to watch on YouTube.

I saw this a few years ago for the challenge. I rather enjoyed it...

It's weird that I won't be able to finish this year's Checklist with individual titless. Do you Talkers double up on your Checklists or do individual titles for each entry like me?
