01. Kristy (2014, 88 minutes) ★★★★✰✰✰✰✰✰ Overly familiar masked intruder concept across a lifeless and unconvincing single student dorm on campus during Thanksgiving. Tracking shots galore makes it feel like the director was more interested in staging with it sometimes paying off in interesting shots and panning around corridors or through doors artfully. Occasionally cheap with convenient fog in one scene only and nonsense hiding just out of camera view (never mind that no one else is around). There is a 'Kristy' concept that might be more interesting but never gets much fleshed out and ultimately feels tacked on. October 1 [Werewolf Theme Night] (11 hours, 17 minutes watched)
03. Good Manners (2017, 135 minutes) ★★★★★★½✰✰✰ Whimsical magical realism that keeps you guessing featuring dance segments, somber music, and a bittersweet twisted plot. The settings are often intentionally light with pink chairs, party streamers, blue walls, etc giving it an exotic flare distracting from the grim horror. There's a creative effort to restrain some of the most horrible elements to focus on heart. In equal parts bloody and gut punching with needy characters looking out for others and struggling with their own connections. I cannot decide if I loved or hated the ending which seems to continue the film's emphasis on relationships over carnage. Format: Streaming [Vudu]. Theme 1st
04. Werewolf Woman (1976, 98 minutes) ★★★★½✰✰✰✰✰ Sleazy and stylish with mean spirited and shallow plot. I really liked Werewolf Woman when I first saw it but this time is seemed to drag the last half and not carry the euro horror fever dream mood like it seemed to before. Confusing disposable plot. 06. Bonehill Road (2017, 85 minutes) ★★✰✰✰✰✰✰✰✰ Tempted by this because it was on a 'best indie horror films list' but was a letdown. Cringe-worthy ham of a villain actor blathers away at women with questionable makeup effects. Some of the staging is interesting as a road movie but not all of the characters made sense (some were not developed at all) and elements that seemed intended to be intense just came across as awkward. I think there was a sexism commentary in there but it seemed awkward and more a framing than anything thought worthy. Format: Streaming [Vudu]. Theme 1st
07. Haxan (1929, 107 minutes) ★★★★★★★✰✰✰ Great effects and sense of hysteria around witchcraft. The pseudo-science is a bit strange and documentary approach somewhat at odds with fantasy of a lot of the imagery. Surprisingly well acted but what a heavy handed final segment about 'modern times.' Haxan runs a bit long. I could just run the devil effect clips on a loop and be satisfied, forget the narration cards, and awkward over explanation. Format: Streaming [Vudu]. Subset

Hunter's Moon (2020, 85 minutes) ★★★✰✰✰✰✰✰✰ Aimless for much of it's run time with characters just popping in because they're straining to set up an un-necessary backstory for a plot that seems familiar. There's not much content here and in the end it's an under cooked wafer thin concept that I think we've seen before. The ending was what made anything work but wasn't a home run. 09. Werewolf of London (1935, 75 minutes) ★★★★✰✰✰✰✰✰ Well staged with gravitas in proceedings that flirt with cool ideas (like a werewolf plant antidote) that never really seem to go anywhere. The transformation effects are decent but not much really happens, it's subdued in a way I failed to appreciate even when I could see quality actors and subtle setup. Format: Streaming [Vudu]. Theme

13. Screamers (1995, 108 minutes) ★★★★½✰✰✰✰✰ Gritty scifi action horror with plot twists galore and a cool decoy robot element. 14. Death Bed: The Bed That Eats (1977, 77 minutes) ★★★★★✰✰✰✰✰ Amazing execution for a thin concept with cool digestive effects for an unintentionally funny but also gruesome experience. The indie elements make Death Bed work more than it could if it were a polished studio film.
A narrator imbues a personality and continuity into the images that sometimes feel disjointed, it's an interesting structure. Format: Blu-ray [Cult Epics].
15. The Beast Within [With Monstervision interludes] (1982, 98 minutes for film + 14 minutes for Monstervision) ★★★★★★✰✰✰✰ Mystery elements thrive through Beast Within and it's got some gorey effects that make it a too often overlooked 80s gem despite sleazy bookends and elements that seem to throw in different subgenres to see what sticks. I remember catching this 'live' on TNT Monstervision and being blown away but Joe Bob's comments don't hold up much, more humor than insightful. Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016, 86 minutes) ★★★★★★★★★✰ Autopsy of Jane Doe is a brillant film; taking place with few characters who seem like good people in a small setting it's premised filled with such cryptic mystery and gore from the go. I'd seen Autopsy before but even after this viewing it left me feeling a little unsettled. The end reveal feels a little out of nowhere but is such an abstract and novel idea it's haunting. Deliciously resists explaining much with a thriving implied backstory. The suggestiveness and growing sense of doom is excellent. One of the best recent horror movies. Format: Digital [Vudu]. 17. Street Trash (2016, 86 minutes) ★★★½✰✰✰✰✰✰ Strange mix of hobo 'slice of life' comedy and epic special effects. It makes one wonder why more movies don't go for the gusto and have fun with random body melting or other over the top neon gore... or even why Street Trash itself didn't offer more of the goods because it really stalls so much in the middle and the odd humor only takes it so far. Trim 30 minutes, melt more bodies, or go home. The junkyard hobo community is a cool slum underdog theme but it feels like it 'stopped at 68 and owes us one' rather than going all the way with the Viper gore we came for. 18. Dr Giggles (1992, 96 minutes) ★★★★★½✰✰✰✰ Fun casual slasher film with a silly villain and mild slapstick elements work well. Sometimes Dr Giggles maniacal laughter doesn't quite match becoming distracting. Maybe it helped to be nostalgic for the 90s or catching this in the right mood but it was decent. The Chilling (1989, 90 minutes) ★★★★✰✰✰✰✰✰ As much as I enjoy finding good horror movies; sometimes it's nice to happen on a crappy cable TV style popcorn flick that hits right even if not one in their right mind should probably watch The Chilling. The junk food wild card of enjoying horror. Stupid casual zombie romp that rants about cryogenics being satanic but breezy horror film that I enjoyed more than I should have. 25. Girl on the Third Floor (2019, 93 minutes) ★★★★★★½✰✰✰ Weird and dark home improvement morality tale that nails a lot of haunted house elements while force feeding a laborious backstory. There are some obvious weaknesses but the effects and creepiness work well - maybe I'm just a sucker for haunted house stories and we don't get many well done these days. Gonjiam: Haunted Mansion (2018, 95 minutes) ★★★★★★½✰✰✰ A decent scare after a ton of setup to the point I'm not sure it paid off and parts were a bit overly familiar but there were a few scenes that were well crafted and tense enough to be highlights. One of the few horror films to sink in with me leaving me looking over my shoulder and questioning reality after it's over despite obvious flaws with pacing, unmemorable characters, and generic mythos. October 4 [Zombie Theme Night] (10 hours, 36 minutes watched)
27. Zombieland: Double Tap (2019, 99 minutes) ★★★★½✰✰✰✰✰ Enjoyed more theatrically last year than this second viewing. 2x Tap is a big step down into self parody - these are not about plot but no excuse to be this superficial and the humor is more miserly (tone deaf lampooning of hippies [?], airhead blones, and vegans feel like 'who cares' cheap shots from grandpa about a bygone era oblivious to our age of nazi punching revolt & social unrest). Jesse Eisenberg is a bit more obnoxious here stealing the spotlight from the rest of the group dashing the chemistry that made the first so great. Pail imitation is more of an enemy here than zombies. Some of the humor and references get more tiresome with each rehash - the humor feels much less diverse beating the dead horse of a few lukewarm hooks in frustrated search for a laugh. Zombie Fight Club (2014, 95 minutes) ★★★½✰✰✰✰✰✰ Looking for wholesale zombie carnage after some subdued zombie comedies I tuned into a first half filled with pretentious depraved rappers and randomized police zombie action that we pretty meh then a much better second half with the sort of martial arts fighting zombies action one might have expected. Gags the Clown (2018, 89 minutes) ★★★★✰✰✰✰✰✰ Cool idea that gets sidetracked by it's 'found footage' reports / pod caster gimmick focusing on cartoonish 'real' characters resulting in some pacing issues. 34. Boardinghouse (1982, 98 minutes) ★★½✰✰✰✰✰✰✰ Boardinghouse is a cool concept and nicely dated - a sleazebag rents his house out to a bunch of eligible women and he is telekinetic and the house is haunted. I don't usually say this but the sleaze took away from the sort of cool leering suburban vibe and the docudrama start with more deaths than you can count on one hand ...then it gets sleepy. Deliver the goods, Boardinghouse - so much party, so little death. Some of the over acting is done with so much gusto and glee it's amusing and there are a few good moments.Format: DVD [Code Red]. Demon Cop (1990, 81 minutes) ★½✰✰✰✰✰✰✰✰ Mystery police procedural with a snitch going to a radio host, some vietnam vet buddy cops, gang bangers (convincing and otherwise), a wheelchair temptress pulling the strings, and a bunch of other stuff that suggests more of a plot than hits home despite all the explaining. Demon Cop is like a werewolf demon popping in and out of taking over a human form so the film doesn't have to deliver much on the premise until a climax. There is a touch of social commentary. Game of Death (2017, 74 minutes) ★★★★★★✰✰✰✰ Hypnotic gore and artistically shot but there's something missing with a narrative hook, it's dark and gruesome with moral weight/abandon but also kind of a thin premise. Gore abounds with exploring heads, car hits, and widescale massacre but it never loses slight of the impact, there's a breathless frustration to it even if it's often not quite clear what it happening other than 'rules of the game.' 47. Frozen (2010, 93 minutes) ★★★★★★★✰✰✰ Frozen is a wonderfully tense movie with an excellent premise that’s believable. It never really ‘jumps the shark’ but waffles between sizzling engaging suspense and groan worthy ‘twists’ that while not implausible are too coincidental. Deus ex machina and ‘dumb choices’ abound to the point it hurts what could otherwise have been a ‘modern classic.’ I think this might be one of Adam Green’s better films (second to Digging Up the Marrow).Format: Digital [Vudu]. 64. Eaten Alive (1976, 91 minutes) ★★★½✰✰✰✰✰✰ Why is everyone wearing ridiculous wigs? Tobe Hooper's corny humor is often a miss in my opinion but at it's kinetic best in films like Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 where it distorts most bizarre depraved antics or has an actor with chops like Bill Mosley to ham it up. This is no TCM 2. There's some potential in the premise - not enough horror movies are set in the gritty swamp, scythes are atmospheric and cool weapons we don't see enough of. I feel like hiding somewhere in the mix is a compelling film. The colored lighting is a nice touch and I love the kid hiding under the house where no one can reach subplot. The strange prostitution stuff with underage hookers and bizarre looking madams seems odd but I guess intended to be ‘thematic’ or part of the humor. It's interesting how little screen time the 'monsters' end up with considering the premise, I think a bellboy gets more time - Twisto needed to take back his film from the reporters. It was fun to see the encyclopedic who's who of Kaiju and scifi subplot was nicely cheesy even if it took a bit too much away from the monsters wrestling with skyscrapers we came to see. Destroy All Monsters does a decent job of selling the 'global catastrophe' of it with some of the announcers give it a news like feel. 85. What Have You Done to Solange? (1972, 105 minutes) ★★★★★★✰✰✰✰ Nicely gorey without being bloody. I think part of the reason What Have You Done With Solange is so slow going is that there is only the hint of violence at first, it's a more tender giallo with "lovers" rather than anything especially blunt even as the murders take on a sexual aspect there are leering shots of showing schoolgirls but quick glimpses of the violence. Now a days horror films would start with an especially brutal hook, and not hint at it as this does here. The flash of a blade is much more poetic. Everyone in this film is so stylish, it makes me feel even more like a slob and elevates a lot of the scenes. Some of the premise seems like a zeitgeist for 70s. Hideaway (1995, 106 minutes) ★★★★★★½✰✰✰ Twisted premise from the under rated Dean Koontz, with Jeremy Sisto killing it... as a killer and Jeff Goldblum being himself as an everyman forced to watch and know. The mystic elements here are are silly and support the semi-serious film well. I'd seen this sort of premise somewhere else and not sure which came first. There is some nicely dated 90s stuff like the spiritual aspects, Alicia Silverstone, and a corny 'satanist' theme (which weakens the script with an 'oh no it's the evil metal heads' ploy) but it's fast paced and stylish enough to overcome some pitfalls like the ending being telegraphed so far ahead. It's like a Hills Have Eye Homage with milf biker chicks instead of hillbillies and there's lots of skin but it's all so corny. There is an admirable dedication to 'spooky' 'Halloween' tropes above all and I appreciate their dogged commitment to horror elements even when the film is a dumpster fire of bad acting and inconsistencies. I thought the intro with the weird kid who was a ghoul kid or maybe not had a birthday was odd enough to seem interesting in a dumb comedy way, the alien/creature in the stairwell, the spider woman, mini-reaper... and some of the effects were gnarly, like under the surface is an interesting horror comedy. Hmm... just when you thought you'd seen everything - some scenes are proof they were not even trying for some of it. The obvious differences in cut in material is an interesting exercise in editing; it's horrible but hypnotic and funny in a way that must have been intentionally bad. The Cabinet of Dr Caligari [Commentary by film historian David Kalat] (1920, 76 minutes) ★★★★★★★½✰✰ Caligari is a fascinating film that I wish I could experience more in it's time - watching it now I think it looks cool and antique and fascinating that everyone involved might be dead so what life they must have lived (not the least of which is preserved as a snapshot here). It's unquestionably artistic with a far out interesting story and surreal set design with a seemingly timeless cool sleepwalking hook... the framing device element of 'what is real' is excellent but I feel like there's a lot of commentary I cannot 'get.' I guess the value of 'art' is being able to project whatever meaning you relate to on it - but that's why Caligari we perceive today may not be the Caligari that was filmed. I do not think the film makers intended Caligari to mimic and represent Trump; which is beyond bizarre and prophetic. Sly bookend segments. The 'good natured' Xenophobia of not being sure what's naturally foreign or what's unusual because of evil works well. One character is embelamtic of what works best about Dagon, perfectly straddling the good natured and the strange in a human sympathetic way while still seeming a bit sinister. A Field in England (2013, 90 minutes) ★★★★✰✰✰✰✰✰ Beautiful looking black and white photography with a cool old England setting that fails to live up to the hype - the ensemble of character does a decent jump but the script is too psychedelic to make much sense digging into mysticism as story line to a point it's not convincing and sometimes confusing. There are some weird effects and obvious the film makers had fun with this but it's not very accessible even as an appealing puzzle. It's a bit slow, which I think is an effort to make us bond with the killers, and some of the acting is off with a intellectually disabled portrayal a bit hammy but never the less there's cruelty and it's not fun which I guess it good if bleak intensity is your thing but there are still better examples of this stuff (like Girl Next Door). 148. New York Ripper (1972, 85 minutes) ★★★★★★★✰✰✰ I cannot think of a more prime zeitgeist to revisit The Ripper than 70s-80s New York, that seems like brilliant staging. The kills are excellent gorey fun. New York Ripper is one of Fulci's best film (it seems fresher and more focused than a lot of his other stuff, even though I am a fan). The Green Inferno (2013, 100 minutes) ★★★★★✰✰✰✰✰ Interesting then it dive bombs into stupid; Eli Roth is inconsistent for me even within the same film it goes from being tense to cartoonish with a startling off brand of humor. The natives looked fantastically gorey with red paint and there is some good tension then, for example, comes a marijuana munchies awkward plot device so groan worthy and self destructive it derails. 150. Agony (2017, 83 minutes) ★★★★★★½✰✰✰ Hallucinatory cryptic family mystery with a lot of ambiguity and some mindtrip imagery that doesn't always work. I liked it's theme introduced at the start with the quote "Illness, insanity, and death are the black angels that kept watch over my cradle and accompanied all my life" (Edvard Munch). I interpreted it as a metaphor for genetic mental/physical illness and thought it was good from that perspective but could also see how it might be too aimless and cryptic. Well staged but about mid-way through many of the supporting characters disappear and the film gets more focused but also loses some of it's magic. Content is never too gross or intense but also never really has much gravity, it's got a strange low production value that helps it from seeming too serious (which helps the film balance it's more action comedy tone). Stages characters then mocks the characters which are overly staged to be made fun of plus a demon sometimes shows up, which is cool when it happens. To it's benefit it never as cartoonish as it could be but there are times it feels too restrained with horror gore/sleaze/carnage that might have made it more fun rather than having whiny kids having drama about if they should smoke cigarettes or be gay (maybe this would have been edgy a decade ago?). 168. Under the Skin (2013, 109 minutes) ★★★★★★★★½✰ Great film. I'd seen it before and as cryptic as it is I usually just enjoy it as a mood piece. There's no reason for some of the dark pool visuals but it sure does look cool and the in your face sexuality of it is so explicit it feels like it's challenging our own sexuality. Adam Pearson, the disfigured man, was inspired casting and even if he doesn't end up much different than the other men his appearance feels like it's making a statement (but I'm not sure there's a thesis so much as direct visuals so much as a void). Johansson is a specimen, but I appreciate that here she is not a toned 'Black Widow' but a (relatively) plump natural seeming woman - which might fit any themes of dispelling pretenses and honest intimacy. I Am Alone (2015, 88 minutes) ★★★½✰✰✰✰✰✰ There's a nature survival challenge docudrama and a zombie apocalyse but here the channel stays on the docudrama where zombies occasionally show up to elevate how frustrated and alone out nature guide is - that it's all been drama until this time. The effects are cheap and the subjective point of view camera limited. I was hoping for an action film with subjective camera low budget zombie gore and this felt more like a whimper or off camera romantic death and long winded pseudoscience banter. 175. Color Out of Space (2019, 111 minutes) ★★★★★★★★✰✰ Excellent visuals; the pink hue of the meteorite is wonderful and strange. The slow transformation of the land and creatures hypnotically sizzles and makes the film feel more like an odyssey than a snapshot (large scale stuff). The emphasis on nature itself is deep and creepy from tying in juvenile misguided wiccan rituals to alpacas to the life cycle of water. The use of special effects here is more innovative than usual and I appreciate that more of them seem practical; the whole story hangs on the effects and they work great but at times the dizzing pink hues are so over the top. Nicolas Cage is often hammy in this slow burn abstract horror film - he is off putting at first but then eventually comes together. COoS was a wild ride, I'm still trying to understand the ending. Wolfen (1981, 115 minutes) ★★★★★★½✰✰✰ Albert Finney is great as the detective in a mystic standoff the film hangs around - there's perhaps too much extra stuff surrounding this but the dramatic acting and direction help carry the film a lot further than the Wolfen premise does. It's nice to see a horror film that treats both sides with respect and perspective, the film romanticizes as it vilifies. Point of view segments were a good gag but the dated distortion of it got old quick. Some chilling elements are dropped by dialogue more than they are show. 189. Books of Blood (2020, 107 minutes) ★★★★½✰✰✰✰✰ I hope I've made it in time to caution people against Hulu's new Books of Blood anthology film. The original Cliver Barker text is a classic of horror literature but the new anthology film is laboriously dramatic and due to a dud of a first (framing) story feels more meandering than scary or intense. Production values aren't strong to a fault with some CGI specters feeling especially 'made for tv' rather than a mirror for the intense mad stories we know Barker has on hand. Some of the twists are more implausible than eerie. It's cool the stories intertwine and at least one is faithful to the book but overall disappointing except to the degree it might bring people to the source material. Favorite segment: Psychic guy. Verotika (2019, 90 minutes) ★★½✰✰✰✰✰✰✰ I’d heard it was bad but didn’t expect this – it’s hardly an anthology more filled with matter of fact imagery than stories with one out of three tales mostly leering at club dancers and a final one that’s a straight forward enough visual of a famous killer (no twists, no conflict – just a low budget gore show). Only the first segment shows any promise with it’s ridiculously stupid but creative spider idea that’s got a low of surreal stuff crammed into 30 minutes. Favorite segment: Spider. I'm a sucker for the abandoned warehouse scene and they are not shy on the gore. The killer is fun, charismatic, and filled with religious fever but some of the other cast don't do as well. There are circus allusions which fits because there are flash in the pan highlights but most of the everything Rob Zombie tossed into the film rarely work - sensational and gimmicky to a fault without much content. Characters yelling 'I want to f-ck you' in an assorted of different ways trying to be creepy starts to feel formatted and was never very funny (?) or scary (?) to begin with. It's hilarious and clever for the space villain to be a pregnant woman/mother (which I'm sure saved on effects) and along with the scifi setting it turns what might have been a bland action slasher into one that is delightfully cheesy. "It's not ok for everyone to be killing each other all the time!" is a serious line here - one Wes Craven's final films that I've heard bad things about but starts out fast paced with a cool abstract premise then draaags. It's impressively quick with setup explaining a bunch of 7 souls stuff then goes into high school drama with weird Ripper Day' rituals and Condor school '[mascot stuff that's occasionally visually interesting but makes little sense and isn't really how kids act. Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988, 88 minutes) ★★★★½✰✰✰✰✰I love how they keep Donald Pleasence in the mix through so many of the sequels when it would have been easy to write him off; his obsessive quest against Myers is part of what 'makes' the series. It's silly how they bandage up Michael's face here and so laboriously explain his return to Haddonfield , the staging is overly long with large swaths of exposition taking too long. Bonus points for recreating another babysitting scenario (on Halloween). "Jamie's an orphan" - Daniella Harris does well as a child actress. The rocking chair bit is a cool scene.
The bits where Myers doesn't seem to know how to use or like guns are cool/funny additions to Myers storyline. Halloween 4 seems to spend a lot of time mocking that the police (and guns) don't protect the victims here, hard to tell if that's satire or cheap thrill fodder. 212. Relic (2020, 89 minutes) ★★★★★★★✰✰✰ Talk about a slow burn but gets to a nice intensity and seems to have context to it's grisly conclusion that sticks beyond the film. A building eeriness is wonderfully done here and pulls at the heartstrings with it's tale of a grandmotherly old lady. I've read some analysis of this that suggests it's ending is straight forward but I think it's so open to interpretation nut perfectly nails mood. Format: Digital [Vudu]. 1st

216. Evangeline (2013, 85 minutes) ★★★½✰✰✰✰✰✰ Moody possession revenge film (like if The Crow was an emo teen). "What the f-ck do you want? You're dead. We killed you" says the unconvincing bully murderer. It's got a cool comeuppance undercurrent and likeable lead but the bad guys are generic church group boys and are not convincingly mean spirited (which was maybe the point). 217. The Witches (1990, 91 minutes) ★★★★★★★★✰✰ The Witches is a classic film that never gets old. I do not think director Nicholas Roeg ever has the camera at eye level and coupled with the often wide shots it creates a strange whimsical perspective of scenes that are otherwise staged in very routine ways (well except for the scenic hotel beach). Angelica Huston is epic here, her dialect (sound like she has something in her mouth while trying to enthusiastically talk) works really well. I love how warty and gruesome her witch guise is then when she is normal she is wearing a very low cut teasing dress with neck for miles. The purple eyes glinting is a cool idea; witches are everywhere and we could most easily see their purple peepers if we were just looking but I'm not sure it always works (a bit obvious, seems to get dropped) but fortunately the excellent effects here makes that easy to overlook. It is a shame Jim Henson died so relatively young (53) because he really elevated the art of practical effects and puppetry without much of an obvious successor since and The Witches is a great example that would not be the same film without his brand of careful imagery. Ronald Dahl is a genius but I am not sure how much credit he gets for what really makes The Witches work - the effects, direction, and acting really pump up the source. Hubie Halloween (2020, 102 minutes) ★★★★✰✰✰✰✰✰ Hubie Halloween has Halloween spirit to spare and with high production values - no telling how much money Netflix is throwing at Adam Sandler and his surprisingly enduring oddball sense of humor (actually there's probably a reports of how much, but I don't want to know). I love how each scene is oozing Halloween comedically down to a local diner. I watched this with my 9 year old son and I'm now afraid he might be an Adam Sandler fan (but might be a good age for the humor). The swiss army Thermos stuff was funny and there were a few scenes that make us chuckle. Overall - Hubie Halloween was fun but it's the Halloween special we deserve and not the one we need right now. Maybe if Adam Sandler could quit ending up in Adam Sandler movies - the intentionally wooden mumbling is tiresome quickly and his self-depretiating humor often falls because he is such a ham here. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (2019, 108 minutes) ★★★★½✰✰✰✰✰ I didn't think this worked as a tribute to the excellent 'Scary Stories' young adult books or lived up the masterful legacy of director André Øvredal (Troll Hunter, Autopsy of Jane Doe) but it was an atmospheric Halloween film. I think it would have been better without the Scary Story elements, which feel almost misplaced in an otherwise generic seeming film. There are long scenes of often CGI monsters chasing our heros that dash atmosphere and take it to a matter of fact fantasy realm. 1. Fear Pharm (2020). FTV. Streamed. 2/5. A corn maze is used by a family of psychos to hunt victims and make skin cream with their skin. A subpar flick that does squeeze out a couple of good scenes. Watching a guy have his skin removed with a medical cheese grater was a little squeamish.

2.Cult Girls (2019). FTV. Streamed. 1.5/5. A woman can't shake her past when she was involved with a cult as a child. Stay away from this one unless you need to catch up on some sleep. All is not lost as there is some dancing in the woods nudity.

A slow burn with a twist at the end.

Some ghost hunters set out to film at a haunted camp only to find its really haunted.
Lame outing for sure. When there is over a thousand films with the exact same plot, you have to stand out. This one does not.

The Candy Witch is out to settle the score getting her sweet revenge.

Slow moving horror still manages to entertain while she is choking her victims with candy floss or cutting cookies out of their skin. I didn't think candy could be so dangerous.

A woman hires the maintenance girl of her building to clean her apartment twice a week. Things don't go very well as she starts to use her own cleaning solutions.

This one zips along pretty good as we watch how mentally unbalanced the cleaner is and how she got that way shown in flashbacks. The film has a scummy Single White Female feel.

12. Anonymous Killers (2020). FTV. Streamed. 2.5/5. A group of psychotic killers wake up barb wired to chairs. An even more psychotic man makes them all confess their inner most secrets by way of pain.

The whole film doesn't really make sense when you get down to it but there are several graphic kills.

13. Archons (2018). FTV. Streamed. 2/5. A band goes camping in the woods with a bag of acid looking for inspiration for their next album. They instead grow worms in their heads and become targets of these tree creature looking things.
Had potential but alas we get this offering which leaves a big void. A cool bubbling forehead scene that eventually pops however.

14. Books Of Blood (2020). FTV. Streamed. 3/5.

15. Covenant (2018). FTV. Streamed. 2/5. Mostly a snoozefest. You don't see the covenant till the end.

16. Skinner (1993). FTV. Watched on DVD. 2.5/5. Younger versions of Traci Lords and Ricki Lake share the screen with a prostitute skin peeler who mostly gets the skin off in one piece. This guy needs a new hooker suit every day.

Slow at times but some cool 90's effects.

17. The Amityville Harvest (2020). FTV. Streamed. 2/5. Nothing really to do with Amityville. A better title is The Amityville Vampire.

18. Skullduggery (1983). FTV. Watched on DVD. 1.5/5. This flick is the worst one of the challenge so far.

19. Crispy's Curse (2017). FTV. Streamed. 2/5.
A below average British horror comedy that has a bunch of misfits trying to track down the ghost of a killer clown.
During some parts I laughed the rest of the time I wondered what the hell I was watching this for.

20. Zombie Isle (2014). FTV. Watched on DVD. 1.5/5.

21. Crocodylus (2017). FTV. Streamed. 1.5/5. Another awful creature feature with a 60.00 budget.

22. The Comeback (1978). FTV. Watched on DVD. 3/5. Pete Walker uses the guy who sang The Love Boat theme song (Jack Jones) as the lead along side the Charlie's Angels guy David Doyle.

23. Cruel Peter (2019). FTV. Streamed. 2.5/5. Pretty creepy and has a cool gothic setting but manages to be boring.

24. Carrion (2020). FTV. Streamed. 1.5/5. During most of the film you're wondering what the hell is going on! I'm sure in somebody's head this made sense.

25. Cabal (2020). FTV. Streamed. 1.5/5. Rene Perez brings us another pile of poo with a Mighty Morphin type guy going up against a bodybuilding Jason. Nudity will get you through this one.

26. Cupid (2020). FTV. Streamed. 2.5/5. This is one nasty cupid who is ugly as hell and he likes to shoot arrows into peoples heads. He does mix it up by slicing a throat with a Valentine's Day card!

29. The Curse Of Lilith Ratchet (2018). FTV. Streamed. 1.5/5. Lilith has been conjured now everyone is in danger including me for watching this.

30. Sadistic Eroticism (2012). FTV. Watched on DVD. 2.5/5. A Troma type horror comedy that pushes almost 2 1/2 hours!

31. Cut And Chop (2020). FTV. Streamed. 2/5. A troubled actor gets way too involved in his latest role in which he plays a killer. Just a pile of regurgitated films all thrown into a blender.

32. The Dark Days Of Demetrius (2019). FTV. Streamed. 2.5/5. Sick twisted trip through the mind of a serial killer who does his killings live on the internet.

33. Dark Amazon (2014). FTV. Watched on DVD. 2/5. On a trek through the amazon some friends start dying off. Done as a found footage.

34. Big Freaking Rat (2020). FTV. Streamed. 2/5. A man sized rat formed from toxic waste chews away on all the park patrons. Felissa Rose is behind this mess.

35. Dark, Deadly And Dreadful (2018). FTV. Streamed. 2.5/5. A bunch of short films are slapped together to give us 90 minutes of mayhem. Some are good and some aren't. You know how it goes with these anthologies.

36. Dark October (2020). FTV. Streamed. 1.5/5. Really bad low budget where some friends go to a concert and of course break down near an old schoolhouse.

37. Darkness Waits (2020). FTV. Streamed. 1.5/5. A really bad one with a paranormal team checking out a site where they are killed off one by one.

39. The Dead Ones (2019). FTV. Streamed. 2/5. Students are trapped in a school by some masked killers to teach them some kind of lesson. Some cool effects in this one but not much else.

40. Cry Havoc (2020). FTV. Streamed. 1.5/5. Havoc still loves to chase and kill half naked women. This time he has a Charles Bronson clone (Robert Bronzi) to contend against.

Usual Rene Perez crap with the lots of gore.

41. Death Of A Vlogger (2019). FTV. Streamed. 2/5. A Youtuber has people convinced his place is haunted then he is found to be a fraud. His place gets haunted again and the cycle continues. Just a found footage flick you'll want to overlook.

42. Lycanimator (2018). FTV. Watched on DVD. 2/5. This one is no Ginger Snaps or Re- Animator that is for sure.

43. Devil's Night: Dawn Of The Nain Rouge (2020). FTV. Streamed. 1.5/5.

44. Do Not Reply (2020). FTV. Streamed. 2/5. A man kidnaps young girls then slaps cheerleading outfits on them. He then uses them for a virtual reality snuff project. An annoying protagonist and lame everything else makes me think it should have been called Do Not Watch! It felt like a Hallmark movie with swearing.

45. Doctor Death: Seeker Of Souls (1973). Watched on DVD. 2.5/5. A man goes to all avenues to find a way to bring his dead wife back. A good little grindhouse flick with a laughable ending.

46. Awakening The Nun (2020). FTV. Streamed. 2/5. A disgruntled nun is terrorizing a small town seeking revenge with a big kitchen knife. Nothing new here. This one is also called Bad Nun.

48. Dreamkatcher (2020). FTV. Streamed. 2/5. A boy suffering from nightmares gets a dreamcatcher but it turns out to be an evil kind which is a dreamkatcher (I knew right away he was in for a bad spell). This one had potential but never really takes off. You do get to see a 10 year old chasing everyone with an axe for half the movie.

49. Eden Burning (2020). FTV. Streamed. 1.5/5. Kids are lured out into the woods for a weekend of drug induced nightmares. They drag the sh** out this movie only for something to happen in the last 6 minutes.

51. Evil Little Things (2019). FTV. Streamed. 1.5/5. Short stories about dolls that come to life. Just plain bad.

52. Evil Takes Root (2020). FTV. Streamed. 2/5. A sacred tree gets cut down releasing an evil tree spirit that jumps into the closest human host becoming a tree demon. Things branch out from here.

Tree demons aren't usually the scariest things but they try. Most of the acting was wooden anyways. You do see a tree getting an exorcism which doesn't happen everyday. It had me stumped! Alright I'll leave.

53. Evil Under The Skin (2019). FTV. Streamed 1.5/5.

54. Eyes Of The Dead (2015). FTV. Watched on DVD. 2/5. A new pesticide is sprayed on the corn which turns people into zombies. This one is done as a first person view so you see through his eyes as both human and as a zombie. At first the concept is cool but then after 20 minutes it just seems to repeat.

55. The Faceless Man (2019). FTV. Streamed. 2/5.

56. Fang (2018). FTV. Streamed. 2.5/5. A werewolf family feeds on the visitors they get from time to time. Lots of low budget blood in this one done campy style.

57. Fat Ass Zombies (2020). FTV. Streamed. 2/5. Silly horror comedy with a man filming a zombie flick using real zombies.

58. Final Cut (2018). FTV. Streamed. 2/5.

59. Frankenstein 1970 (1958). FTV. Watched on DVD. 2.5/5. The fifth Frankenstein flick Boris Karloff appears in has him renting out his castle to a film company to help pay the bills. They shoot their film while Boris does his creating life thing. Not bad but the series was running out of steam.

61. Gehenna: Where Death Lives (2016). FTV. Watched on DVD. 2.5/5. An old WW2 bunker is the setting of this one. This one wasn't too bad except for the Lance Henricksen role which lasted one phone call.

62. The Goocher (2020). FTV. Streamed. 1.5/5. This one starts off as Battle Royale then it turns into a zombie flick. Just awful. Avoid this one.

63. Gretel And Hansel (2020). FTV. Streamed. 2.5/5. A pretty cool twist to the story.

64. Grim Woods (2019). FTV. Streamed. 1.5/5. Some friends sit around a campfire reading horror stories to one another from a mysterious book. Another bad low budget time waster. If you took Grim Prairie Tales (1990) and smashed it with a hammer this is would be the end result.

65. The Beast And The Magic Sword (1983). FTV. Watched on Bluray. 3/5. Paul Naschy is off to Japan to find a cure for his werewolfness. This one has everything in it even the werewolf wrestling a tiger just before he gets chained up and whipped. No dull moments here.

October 30

66. Halloween Party (2019). FTV. Streamed. 2.5/5. A haunted meme is hitting computers having them type in their biggest fear within so many seconds. If you don't, you die by your fear (it just knows even if you didn't type anything). Mostly cheesy but it does have its share of jump scares. I did like the ending.

~1. The Darkest Hour (2011 - 3D Blu-ray - *1/2) - A cliché movie you have seen done better dozens of times before.
2. Cemetery Man aka Dellamorte Dellamore (1994 - 3D Blu-ray - ***1/2) - Such a bizarre comedy horror film. Utterly unique. I like it better each time I see it.
3. Hellbenders (2012 - 3D Blu-ray - ***1/2) - Very underrated comedy horror which is actually funny but has some really creepy moments as well. Extremely irreverent! More Clancy Brown is always welcome!
4. Children Of The Corn (1984 - Blu-ray - **) - Not really sure why this has a cult following. Every time I have watched this movie, it never impresses me. Don't think I will try again.
~5. Haxan (1922 - Streaming - ***1/2) - This movie has better effects than many made today 100 years later! Historically significant & a fascinating watch.
~6. Hidden 3D (2011 - Blu-ray - *) - I no longer have 3D capability for Region B as that would be the only reason to watch this film. Bad story, bad acting, bad CG, etc. It looked like the 3D might have been good though.
~7. The Life, Legacy And Legend Of Donald P. Borchers (2016 - Blu-ray - ***1/2) - An extra documentary on the import BD of Children Of The Corn; B-Movie Film producer. Very interesting and fun.
8. Club Dread (2004 - Unrated Version - DVD - ***1/2) - I love this movie. It is funny as hell but I have to admit the unrated version goes on a little too long.
9. The Lost Boys (1987 - Blu-ray - ***) - I know this is considered a classic but it just never has done much for me. It is okay but I don't quite get the cult following.
~10. Crawl (2019 - Streaming - **) - Starts out okay with occasionally bad CG but devolves into utter stupidity and loses all aspects of realism it sorta begins with.
11. House Of Wax (1953 - 3D Blu-ray - ***1/2) - Watched w/ commentary by David Del Valle & Constantine Nasr. Commentary is a little dry but interesting. *** for it alone.
12. Misery (1990 - Blu-ray - ***1/2) - Still a good movie but the book is still a lot better. James Caan deserved the Oscar more than Kathy Bates.
13. It Came From Outer Space (1953 - 3D Blu-ray - **1/2) - Watched w/ commentary by film historian Tom Weaver. Interesting stuff but his voice made me sleepy. *** for it alone.

18. Lifeforce (1985 - Blu-ray - ***) - Theatrical version - Mostly great practical effects but poor acting and bad story doesn't help its cause.
19. Shark Night 3D (2011 - Blu-ray - *1/2) - Another region B 3D disc I don't have the capability for anymore. The 3D would be the only reason to sit through this turd.

21. The Fly (1986 - Blu-ray - *****) - This movie is fantastic. Great acting, great effects, great story. One of the few updates that is better than the original in my opinion.

23. The Burning (1981 - Blu-ray - ***1/2) - Decent Friday The 13th rip-off. I am a sucker for camping movies for some reason.

25. Dark Night Of The Scarecrow (1981 - Blu-ray - ****) - One of the best Made For TV movies ever. Loved it as a kid. Love it as an adult.
~26. Poltergeist (2015 - 3D Blu-ray - **) - Very unnecessary remake. Brings nothing new or interesting to to the table.
27. An American Werewolf In London (1981 - Blu-ray - ****) - A Classic with special effects that still stand today.
28. Godzilla (2014 - 3D Blu-ray - ***) - A decent movie but too bloated and not enough Godzilla.
29. Bloody Birthday (1981 - Blu-ray - ***1/2) - A totally bizarre and unique slasher. A lot of fun of kids like you have never seen.
30. The Mad Magician (1954 - 3D Blu-ray - ***) - Watched w/ commentary by David Del Valle & Steven Peros. *** for it. They tend to wander a little too much.
31. Pieces (1982 - Blu-ray - ***) - Watched w/ funny(?) commentary by podcasters Riders Of The Apocalypse. **1/2 stars for their commentary.
32. Tenebrae (1982 - Blu-ray - ***1/2) - Watched with commentary by Argento scholar Maitland McDonagh. *** for her comments. Describes what is going on a little too often though.
33. Underworld (2003 - Blu-ray - ****) - I love how this movie just starts you right in the middle of its lore and it has to be one of the most aggressive 5.1 soundtracks ever.
~34. Coraline (2009 - 3D Blu-ray - ***) - Beautiful to look at and so original...but I found it grew tedious for me after awhile.
35. Invasion Of The Scream Queens (1992 - DVD - ***) - Horrible quality but interesting time capsule at the height/end of the Scream Queen video era.
36. Screaming In High Heels: The Rise & Fall Of The Scream Queen Era (2011 - DVD - ****) - Much better documentary than the aforementioned but only focuses on the Big 3.
~37. Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension (2015 - 3D Blu-ray - 1/2) - I think I have come to despise "found footage" films more than any other genre. This movie is crap.
~38. Paranormal Xperience 3D (2011 - 3D Blu-ray - **1/2) - Spanish film mixing TCM with ghosts...kinda. More entertaining that I expected.
39. Night Of The Creeps (1986 - Streaming - ***) - This one is a fun comedy horror. Very light-hearted with some good practical effects for its low budget.
~40. Never Hike Alone & Never Hike In The Snow (2017 & 2020 - Streaming - **** & ***1/2) - Both of these together add up to approx 1.5 hours. Best fan films I have seen.
41. Underworld: Evolution (2006 - Blu-ray - ***1/2) - Not quite as good as the original but still plenty of fun action. It's downhill from here folks.
42. Night Of The Demons (1988 - Blu-ray - ***1/2) - I liked this one more when I was younger but it is still a great time. Really good effects & creepiness for the budget.
43. Night Of The Demons 2 (1994 - Blu-ray - ***1/2) - Believe it or not, a sequel that is actually as good as the original. This one is fun and creepy just like the first one!
44. The Exorcist (1973 - Blu-ray - ****) - The classic. Obviously not as shocking today but still has several effective scenes.
~45. The Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977 - Blu-ray - *) - One big fucking mess.
46. Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans (2009 - Blu-ray - *1/2) - This one does nothing for me. Everything is done poorly compared to the first two movies.
~47. Cruel Jaws (1995 - Blu-ray - **) - Well...if you want to see how Ed Wood would make a modern day film...here you go. Horrible but mildly entertaining.
48. Night Of The Demons 3 (1997 - DVD - ***) - Amazingly, just a minor step down from the first two. If you enjoyed them, you will likely enjoy this one as well!
49. Underworld: Awakening (2012 - 3D Blu-ray - **) - A little better than the prior one but not by much. Their storylines and timelines are fucked if you watched the first three.
50. Night Of The Demons (2009 - Blu-ray - *1/2) - A waste of time remake. Other than a couple of scenes, it is worthless.
51. Texas Chainsaw (2013 - 3D Blu-ray - **1/2) - A few good moments mixed w/ some very cringe worthy ones. Watched w/ commentary by Tobe Hooper.
~52. Underworld: Blood Wars (2016 - Blu-ray - *) - Wow...probably one of the worst edited movies I have ever seen. Laughable. This series needs to have a stake thru the heart.
54. Friday The 13th: Part III (1982 - 3D Blu-ray - ***) - Probably nostalgia clouds my judgement on this film. Amazing to see in Real 3D though. Like watching it for the first time!
55. Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III (1990 - DVD - ***) - Not great but doesn't its terrible reputation either.
56. Amityville 3-D (1983 - 3D Blu-ray - *1/2) - Great 3D marred by a terribly boring story. No scares. No fun.
57. Hostel (2005 - Blu-ray - ****1/2) - This movie still sticks with you. It has it all and does it all well, in my opinion.
58. Night Of The Living Dead (1968 - Blu-ray - ****1/2) - The granddaddy of modern Zombie films. This one still holds up well.
59. Monster House (2006 - 3D Blu-ray - **) - I thought I remembered liking this one more than I did. Ugly character animation and clichés galore.
60. My Bloody Valentine (2009 - 3D Blu-ray - ***1/2) - Watched with commentary w/ Director & Co-writer. Engaging commentary on one of the slasher updates/remakes.
~61. As Above So Below (2014 - Streaming - ***) - Found-footage (which I usually hate) movie. Basically Blair Witch meets Indiana Jones. Better than expected.
62. Halloween 4: The Return Of Michael Myers (1988 - Blu-ray - **1/2) - See my comments in the dedictated review thread.
~63. Midsommar (2019 - Streaming - ***1/2) - Bizarre, unsettling, slightly unsatisfying flick that got way too much press. Decent but not great. Beautifully shot though with excellent acting!

~.25 The Twilight Zone (2002 - DVD - Episode 6 - "Night Route" - ***) - A standard story and the poor acting doesn't help it but I did enjoy the slight twist at the end. Ione Skye missing her gorgeous locks of hair!
~.50 Dark Shadows (1968 - DVD - Episode 493) - Frankenstein's Monster, I mean..."Adam," runs amok! (actually he just looks quietly at a bird bath but everybody freaks out)
~1.0 Ghost Story aka Circle Of Fear (1972 - DVD - Episode 9 - "Cry Of The Cat" - **1/2) - A female Were-Cougar?!?! Should be interesting but it really isn't. Jackie Cooper & Doug McClure can't save this.
~1.5 Ghost Story aka Circle Of Fear (1972 - DVD - Episode 10 - "Elegy For A Vampire" - **) - Barney Miller and B.J. Hunnicutt can't keep you from falling asleep on this one either. Predictable and dull.
~2.0 Ghost Story aka Circle Of Fear (1972 - DVD - Episode 11 - "Touch Of Madness" - ***) - A young Rip Torn playing an old guy! Decent episode with a decent twist. The female lead in this has a really creepy face!
~2.25 The Twilight Zone (2002 - DVD - Episode 2 - "One Night At Mercy" - **1/2) - George Costanza plays Death. Not the way you would think. Not bad but not good either.
2.5 Tales From The Crypt (1991 - DVD - Season 3, Episode 10 - "Mournin' Mess" - **1/2) - Predictable twist. Nothing special as an episode. Steven Weber & Rita Wilson star.
2.75 Tales From The Crypt (1991 - DVD - Season 3, Episode 11 - "Split Second" - ***1/2) - Predictable but fun. Brion James is always welcome.
~3.0 Tales From The Darkside (1985 - DVD - Season 2, Episode 12 - "Monsters In My Room" - ***) - A very young Seth Green stars with a crappy stepdad that meets a predictable end.

3.5 Tales From The Crypt (1991 - DVD - Season 3, Episode 13 - "Spoiled" - ****1/2) - This is one of the best TFTC I have seen. Tons of fun and more double entendres than you can count!
