Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 16th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

Another round of Halloween sales...

Kino Lorber Shocktober Sale

Our Shoctober Sale Starts Now!
• Over 530 Blu-rays & DVDs - $4.99 & Up!
• Free USA Shipping - Orders of $50 or More!
Sale Ends Monday, November 2nd

VCI Halloween Sale

That's right, it's time for another freaking SALE! It's our Fall-Halloween sale. 30% to 60% off! Everything in the Web Store is Sale Priced at 30% to 60% off the SRP (that's the suggested retail price)!, and no coupon necessary. Sale pricing is good through November 2, 2020.

Arrow Shocktober Sale @ Diabolik

IT IS THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR ! Now through 11/2 Arrow Video is running a sale via their site in the UK and our site in the US featuring most of their in print titles at up to 70% SRP.

Spoiler:
Here are some things you should note….
The sale is during this period only and not good for past purchases (BUT if you just ordered or your order is in preorder, drop us an email and we will work it out)

All orders will ship in full when all items are in stock, so if you order a preorder title along with your sale items, you will receive everything when the final title in your order is released. If you prefer not to wait, you should place multiple orders as we are unable to make shipping exceptions during the sale.

If an Arrow title you want is out of stock you can feel safe in knowing that we are ordering every day from the warehouse, which is just a 1 day ship to us so items will be restocked fairly quickly.

We are unable to combine or add to sale orders. We are also unable to add sale titles to older orders.

Please allow 2+ weeks for your order to be processed during the sale. The extra volume clogs things up a bit and we would rather not skimp on the time we spend making sure the orders are packed well. We won’t be able to answer any “ORDER STATUS” emails during the sale.

These titles aren’t 50% off, what gives? Sale prices are given to us based on the SRP of the title. 50% off our normal price would be amazing, but sadly, that is not what we are able to offer. We are grateful to be able to offer these sale prices to you so please enjoy !

We know you have the overwhelming urge to email about slip covers but we unfortunately cannot answer this question during the sale because the inventory changes so often during the sale.

Red Case Reminder - Mondo Macabro Halloween sale on 10/29.

Spoiler:
TWO WEEKS FROM TODAY!! That's when our big HALLOWEEN SALE will get underway. From now until then we'll be sharing some details about the sale you'll want to know.

First up, here's a couple of OOP updates on some of our older DVD titles.

VIRGINS FROM HELL is going OOP. As of now it is vanishing from all online retailers. BUT! The Mondo Macabro webstores will soon be the exclusive outlet for the remaining copies. We've just gotten in the last 200 copies in existence. Once they are gone, they are gone for good. If you want this one, it's likely your last chance.

GIRL IN ROOM 2A is also going OOP. But sadly we were not able to get a bunch in stock before it disappeared. The good news is we do have SOME, but not a lot. What we have will go ON SALE with everything else at the end of the month. Get it then, or never.

REMEMBER! The sale starts on Thursday, October 29th, at 9 AM Pacific/12 Noon Eastern time (google what time that is where you live) at mondomacabro.bigcartel.com. One hour later the sale will go live at mondo-macabro.com as well.

Discounts on ALL in stock back catalog titles through November 9th!

THREE brand new LIMITED EDITION Blu-rays! QUEENS OF EVIL, BLOOD CEREMONY, and a third secret title that we will announce just ahead of the sale going live.

Oh, you want a hint about the secret title? OK, here ya go - it's an upgrade of a film we released on DVD back in the day, which has since gone OOP. Place your wagers now!

DON'T FORGET! Sale starts promptly at 9 AM Pacific/12 Noon Eastern on Thursday, October 29th. The first hour of the sale will exclusively be at mondomacabro.bigcartel.com. ONE HOUR LATER, the sale/pre-orders will also go live at mondo-macabro.com.

Any questions about anything, just send us a message at [email protected].

Thanks! And see you at the sale!

Since we're piling on the sales, why not a little more? The U.S. Zavvi site has an Arrow buy 1, get 1 free sale. Most of the included titles are priced at $20. The one downside is $10 flat shipping, but if you're placing a pretty big order, it sort of evens out.

Lost some time the past few days. As usual everyday life / work kicks in a bit to spoil things. This weekend isn't looking too good either. Still have time for a decent showing though.

Shudder just released a teaser for the Halloween special next weekend. Two movies with druids 31 years apart. I hope one of them is Halloween III.

Does Suspiria count for the remake item on the checklist? I know the director considered it an homage rather than a direct remake.

Just finished Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter. Too bad it's the last movie in the series. But I guess they didn't want to water down the franchise with endless cheesy sequels, crossovers and reboots. They decided to make one final chapter and end it!

My first viewing of Halloween III was through MonsterVision, so my enthusiasm for that happening is right up there with Darcy's.

Most are guessing the Evil Dead remake if H3 happens. We'll see.

Yes, it still counts.

Speaking of Shudder, I was really impressed with The Mortuary Collection. One of the better anthologies I've caught in awhile, at least since last year's Nightmare Cinema. The wraparound segments with Clancy Brown doing what feels like an Angus Scrimm homage are fantastic, and it even has a bit of a Trick 'r Treat feel to it.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 16th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

I ended up inadvertently getting into an insanity or fractured identity theme last night. I've been binging the Friday the 13th set. So after watching A New Beginning, I watched The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (with the commentary). I followed that with The Slayer and then finished off that streak with The Tenant.

I hadn't seen The Tenant in years. It has been on my most wanted Blu-ray list for a long time, so I was really happy it was finally released. And I'm also really happy to say it held up for me. If anything, I found more of the humor and paranoia watching it with more years under my belt. I'm looking forward to digging into the extras next month.

The original It (1990) was a TV mini-series with 2 episodes, 3 hours and 12 minutes in total. That would count as 2 for the challenge, correct?

I’m trying to figure out remakes right now for the checklist. Any good ideas other than Black Christmas on the theme night movies?

The Tenant is good! I've been thinking of watching it again too.

I watched one of my guilty pleasures yesterday, House of Wax (2005). For some reason I like this film. I hope it's not just because of Paris Hilton's final scene. I think the film does a pretty good job of making a gothic horror something modern. I don't know how others feel about it. Maybe I just like watching Elisha Cuthbert running around in terror.

For VCR day I watched Them! in honor of my dad's VHS tape I found when moving him to my parents' retirement home, and The Clonus Horror with the director's commentary since I have the DVD and love the film. If you haven't listened to the commentary on this film yet I recommend it. It's guided by someone asking questions whose obviously done a lot of research before hand and does a good job of drawing out information from the director.

Each part was over 90 minutes runtime without commercials. So as a non-litigious non-expert, I think that is fine.

How would you count the Friday the 13th fan films "Never Hike Alone" and "Never Hike in the Snow"? They are 53 minutes and 31 minutes.

I counted Never Hike Alone as a single entry, and the other is currently in temporary mode until I find some additional stuff to group it with, most likely some TV but maybe some shorts.

From the rules on the first post:
Mini-Series = 1 entry for each day it aired

So, yes, It would count as two.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 16th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

Any recommendations on podcasts that discuss horror movies (or film in general)?

I have listened to several so far and haven't been that impressed with any of them.

I have tried Horror Rewind, Double Feature, Horror 101 & The Last Podcast On The Left with the last two being the best of the four.

I want funny and knowledgeable but also not annoying which seems hard to come by...though I guess funny but not annoying is all in the ears of the beholder...

I think I'll just count both films as one entry since they both combined equal the length of one movie.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 16th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

Today I watched 2010's Black Death, about which I knew very little, but thought might be timely. I liked it a lot. The cast includes Eddie Redmayne and Sean Bean (in a bit of Ned-Stark mode), and it's violent but very effective.

Tonight I'm attending Manual Cinema's production of Frankenstein, safely performed at a drive-in near me.
Manual Cinema » Frankenstein
I'm very excited to see it. (And usually my wildcards aren't quite so wild.)

Looooovvved going through all the Friday the 13th flicks on bluray for the first time!
A little break in between with the Hellraiser series and then doing at least one commentary track for each flick
