Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 15th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)
Anyone attempt a marathon last night? I crapped out after six films. Sorta regret moving it up two weeks because of Joe Bob's special, and wouldn't have done so if I knew it was only going to be three films.
Don't think I've listened to any of the Grindhouse commentaries yet. That might be my next one.
I've been on a bit of a Fulci kick lately after buying and slowly getting through the Beyond Terror book. Highly recommend it for anyone who's even remotely a fan. That sucker weighs a ton, BTW.
I did just catch Murder Rock for the first time yesterday. That was easily the most stylish of his I've seen to date, but Fulci-lite ...like a Flashdance giallo or something. Really entertaining, although not near his best.
If anyone hasn't listened to the commentary on The Beyond Grindhouse blu-ray commentary with Catriona MacColl and David Warbeck, I highly recommended it. Very entertaining and funny. Even my wife who has no interest in the movie itself joined halfway through and laughed out loud at Warbecks comments.

It's a shame Kim Henkel's original vision for Texas Chainsaw Massacre finally got made. Multiple viewings seems to reinforce just how god awful TCM The Next Generation is. Almost everything that could be wrong is wrong with this film. Jesus , Mary and Joseph.

Got done with the commentary for Scream Factory's The Entity earlier. Probably the most boring commentary I've ever heard for a horror movie. The commentator tells us everything about the director, but very little about the movie we're watching (The Running Man-commentary was also guilty of that)
On the plus side of this challenge, A few horror movies that I've finally gotten a hold of (1961's The Mask and, today's subset, Wer) turned out to be worth the long wait. We'll see if I, Madman can keep that good streak going.

I just watched a movie I had already seen a few challenges back and it didn't register until about 40 minutes in (that's how much of an impression it made). It was "Zombie Creeping Flesh", aka "Hell of the Living Dead", aka "Virus" aka "Night of the Zombies". Seriously, too many names! How am I supposed to keep track?!

I dislike DVD and blu-rays with no subtitles Sometimes the volume is just too low to hear important details.
On another note, anyone have specific movies they watch every challenge? Or, enjoy a film, but decided this year they got to skip it due to overkill. I really enjoy The Shining, Halloween and Texas Chainsaw but this year, think I'm dipping from those because of overkill the past few years.

Think I found the most disturbing film I will probably watch this go around. Found had the premise to be VERY good, but they just had to go for shock value and go a way it didn't need to go. If you're into that sort of stuff, this movie could be for you.

Tonight I had an interesting time at the movies. The Independent theatre here in Pittsburgh is showing ten days of George Romero films, and tonight was the world premiere of The Amusement Park. Back in the early 1970's, the Lutheran Church commissioned Romero to make an educational film on aging. As you might guess, his result was probably not what they expected, and the film wasn't released until its restoration earlier this year. It's a cool piece of work, rough and obviously low-budget, but with the unmistakable Romero style. Romero's widow was also on hand to introduce the film and answer questions.

I just tried to update my list of movies, and now it's showing up as a block of HTML instead of the WSYIWYG format Is anyone else having trouble?

Been watching the Phantasm series and just finished the 4th one. I wonder why Reggie Bannister didn't blow up like Bruce Campbell did. His character, also named Reggie, has a Bruce Campbell like manner to it (cheesy, loves women, has a weapon) and I find him entertaining in that indy movie type way.

I was surprised to find out that Brotherhood of the Wolf (2001) was based on a true story. Despite some the over-the-top aspects, the movie has a bunch of real historical people & events.

Hi all,
Haven't been very communicative this year. In the middle of a move and a bunch of things being juggled. Don't know if I'll hit the big 1 oh oh but plugging away.
It's been really interested watching horror flicks chronologically by release date and see how the genre evolved (or devolved in some cases ). When sound first popped up in my list (M) or colour (a few breif splashes in 1945's The Picture of Dorian Gray) Just rounding out the 1950s and heading into the 60s today.
Hope all are having an fright filled challenge!

I've been trying to add in " new " movies that I have never used for the challenge before. These movies are not really new, but new to my lists that I haven't used before.
Titles like- Amityville Horror, The Shining, to name a couple of them.

Watched Tales From The Crypt: Demon Knight (1995) for the first time ever. How the hell did I miss this one? It was great. Awesome practical effects, some good humor, probably one of the best looking group boobies shot ever, and Billy Zane tore the place down with his fantastic scenery chewing. This movie reminded me a lot of Feast (2005) which is a favorite of mine.
I love the original show and for some reason missed the features for all these years . I saw Bordello Of Blood (1996) for the first time last year but didn't enjoy it near as much. Haven't seen the remaining Tales From The Crypt feature Ritual (2002). Has anyone seen it? Is it worth seeking out?

Man, I'm playing catchup from a terrible weekend where all plans just completely fell through. Bambi can be traumatic. I read in some book regarding the 9 Old Men, that the illustrators of Dumbo really wanted to convey the horror of taking a child away from it's mother. To me, it's as effective a scene as anything Freddie or Jason can do. It's stuck with me these many many years, and I toss it out there when people discuss horrific moments in film. Most people just give me that look....

But speaking of that Ritual has anyone seen The Ritual (2017) on Netflix? It's worth a go.

I saw Ritual a few challenges back. Starts out alright, but just gets very flat soon after.

I've been watching these, too, and I like Reggie. But, I think the Ash-ness feels kind of forced, imo. I just don't see Reggie Bannister as this chick magnet. Bruce Campbell was a handsome guy and had a certain charm to his goofiness and demeanor. Like I said, I enjoyed Reggie, but he just came off as more sleazy and creepy to me than charming. But that's just my take on it. I actually preferred original Phantasm Reggie than the one in the later movies. In the first movie, he was a loyal friend and pretty cool guy. It wasn't until the sequels he became this horn dog he eventually turned into...
