I also enjoyed The Lifechanger, it was a different style of film identifying more with the 'monster' and with a rotating mix of actors that worked surprisingly well. It had a nice moody tone. I felt like Lifechanger ended up being too ambitious a movie because it was artful and intelligent but
Spoiler:
I did not end up liking how it ended. On one hand it was the creature affirming that despite appearances he was always only himself inside but on the other hand it seemed to resolve some of the existential elements awkwardly - like the whole conflict of the film was just him misunderstanding himself and ended up his uncertainty was just mis-placed.

Its because the little girl dying really bums everyone out.

Yeah, but that's part of the alleged "curse" of the movies. I don't believe in curses, but I think it would make an interesting hour or two. I had read the guy who played Robbie in the original movie was going to do one, but it never happened.

Knowing the twist of any movie kind of kills the film with different viewings.

Based on these reviews, I watched this last night. I wanted to get into it right away before stumbling across any spoilers or reviews. I didn't even bother to read the description before hitting play.

Definitely a WTF kinda movie. But I did like it. And let's face it, Allison Williams and Logan Browning are very easy on the eyes. I'm not sure if I'll ever watch it again though because
Spoiler:
if you think about the implausibility of the events it just comes across as kind of goofy.

Sure, like a lot of horror movies the logic strains if you consider things too much. For this movie
Spoiler:
it's likely if you wanted to "deprogram" someone from the influence of a cult leader-like music instructor, surely there were better ways to go besides overdosing the person you wanted to "help" with hallucinogens and getting them to chop off their hand in rural China. Though I went with it since the Allison Williams character was established as being mentally unstable (even though her intentions were good, it was a horrific thing to do to someone you wanted to help). And Logan Browning's character eventually went with the plan since the trauma of her abuse left her mentally unstable as well (even though it didn't manifest itself until after her hand amputation).

One could also question how a prominent music academy could get away with raping it's best students for years. Though the real-life story of long-tern systemic abuse of girls in American gymnastics unfortunately makes this a lot more plausible

Unfortunately, I'm the guy this year (as this seems to happen to one member a year) that just has too much negative stuff going on to really want to watch a lot of horror. Right now and I'm watching a lot of comedy, as I need the laughs. So this year I may be out completely, and that sucks as I always really enjoy participating (Think I watched Void LAST year for the challenge...which is why any winners this year get a copy, as I LOVED it!!!).

Though I've considered Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, as that movie is damn funny. Maybe tonight I just do it. Anyway! Always happy to contribute and participate. I'll do more of the latter next year.

(I had the off idea last night that Chad's awesome annual horror art would make great posters. Don't know why I even mention that here, but I'd buy one!)

Prayers for a quick turnaround to wanting to watch horror Rich. Wait, that doesn’t sound right.....

Agree that The Perfection was good, great for a Netflix movie. Went in completely blind and agree that was best.

I hope things turn around for you GW.

Regarding The Void, it's one of my favorites from the past 3 years. Love the whole assault on a hospital vibe, and then you have the the wheels flying off Hellraiser style in the basement.

I hope things turn around for you Rich. I remember last year that person was me, as right on October 1, we had our dog put to sleep, plus we had lost our gas well thanks to a crack in the tank.

But I was surprised at how gory this ended up being when the title creature lets loose. And this also fits into the sub-genre of killer children.

It's an interesting take for sure. I caught it this morning and really enjoyed it. Other than the aforementioned Daimajn films, I've only caught the goofy (but fun) It! with Roddy McDowall. Talk about different interpretations that are literally polar opposites. I still wanna catch the 1920 version, but I don't think I'm in the right mindset to catch a silent film during the challenge at the moment.

Best wishes, Rich. I really hope things get better and go your way soon.

I've been meaning to revisit The Void after seeing it constantly playing on Shudder TV, so might have to dig out my Blu-ray. I've been hankering for some good cosmic horror while waiting for Richard Stanley's Color Out of Space.

Thanks, I have fun making them. Always been a fan of retro poster art and enjoy creating my own little universe. Unfortunately the massive copyright issues might be a bit of a hindrance if I tried to sell them.

Everyone seems to hate on Doom Asylum but I thought it was fun. Am I the only one that enjoyed it?

If you have a Roku, all the CW shows are available free (with ads) the next day on The CW app. No cable subscription required.

Thanks. I'll see it one way or another, but it's just one of those things when you've been looking forward to something all day and then you realize you waited all day and now you'll have to wait some more. I started to do a live TV trial week through hulu, only to realize it's not available on my PS4... but I will see this episode, just not live, apparently.

If anyone hasn't seen The Haunting Of Hill House on Netflix, I suggest you drop everything and go watch it right now. It's one of the best haunted house shows/movies I've ever seen.

I concur. Great show. I believe the Blu-ray comes out next week with some extended episodes.

Joker 2019 with a wildcard or too much of a stretch?

Didn't have the time in October last year and have been saving it all year for the next challenge. I'll be diving into it soon (since I just cleared my horror movie queue on Netflix.

I used a wildcard, and I see at least a couple of others are counting it straight-up. Given the subject matter, tone, and content I can't imagine anyone would have any problems counting it at least as a wildcard.

Tonight I'm doing a triple feature of 90's "body snatcher" movies.

The Faculty (1998)
Body Snatchers (1993)
The Puppet Masters (1994)

Ya I got to get on that. Kind of lagged. Finally saw Veronica and thought it was well done. I remember online saying it was the scariest movie ever. Not so sure on that. Had its moments, but I think there are scarier. Anyone else seen it?

My boyfriend had never seen Scream, so I convinced him to watch it with me last night. He enjoyed it, and even after 20+ years of rewatches it's still a damn good fun time for me. I just realised I probably first watched it before my boyfriend was even born, god that makes me feel old and creepy (seven year age gap).

I watched Zombie Strippers for today's theme and honestly I wasn't expecting much but it was actually quite fun. Dumb, but fun.
