I'm happy for multiple counts for those who can manage it. I'll be lucky to get one in 😝

I'm sure I'll watch something on Friday (probably a werewolf flick), but I won't count it. I'm a purest.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 15th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

Here's the 2019 subset list in no particular order.

As always, an eclectic mix with a few classics, modern, under-the-radar, gory, psychotronic, Gothic, obscure, erotic, animated, avant-garde, cheeseball, foreign (a couple currently have a limited theatrical run), and some cocaine-induced ineptitude that's so bad it's good. And a few have recent first-time Blu-ray and UHD releases and upgrades. Comments welcome.

Criterion Crossover: Videodrome (1983)

1. Viy (1967) - Vampires - Chad
2. Phenomena (1985) - Donald Pleasence 100th - hbsvb
3. The Hills Run Red (2009) - Strip Club - TheBigDave
4. Nina Forever (2015) - Retail - Undeadcow
5. Tigers Are Not Afraid (2017) - Supernatural - arw6040
6. Audition (1999) - 50 Best - Darth Maher
7. One Cut of the Dead (2017) - Frights, Camera...Traction! – rbrown498
8. 976-EVIL (1988) - Heavy Metal - PCBreakdown
9. Der Fan (1982) - Playgrounds - DaveyJoe
10. [REC]³ Genesis (2012) - Wedding - tarfrimmer
11. The Prey (1983) - Video - Darkgod
12. Cat People (1942) - LDD - shellebelle
13. Death Spa (1989) - Mashup - cwileyy
14. Disconnected (1984) - Slashers - SterlingBen
15. Dead End (2003) - Stranded - Mondo Kane
16. Wer (2013) - Werewolves - WillieMLF
17. Mausoleum (1983) - Devil's Night - mallratcal
18. Final Exam (1981) - Pranks - numbercrunch
19. The Mummy's Curse (1944) / The House That Screamed (1969) / Wes Craven's New Nightmare (1994) - Chrono - MysterioMan007
20. Us (2019) - Home Invasion - clckworang
21. A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master (1988) - RIP Buechler - JAX036
22. Vault of Horror (1973) - Anthologies - orlmac
23. The Faculty (1998) - Horror In Horror - alyxstarr
24. The Fury (1978) - Fog - Shack
25. God Told Me To (1976) - RIP Larry Cohen - ororama
26. Zombie (Zombi 2) (1979) - Zombies - Bladz
27. Monster House (2006) - Family - mrcellophane
28. Society (1989) - Joe Bob Briggs - Gobear
29. House of 1000 Corpses (2003) - Halloween - jacob_b
30. Boar (2017) - Australia/New Zealand - Trevor
31. The Seventh Curse (1986) - Horror Parties - coyoteblue

Comedy Crossover: Return to Horror High (1987)

And let me answer a few questions that are bound to be asked:

  1. Why is Viy under vampires? Viy is a creature from Ukrainian folklore that's very similar to a vampire. In fact, there's even an extra on the Severin Blu-ray entitled "Viy the Vampire". I stand by my choice.

  2. Why are there two NOES films? Because New Nightmare is attached to the Chrono, and you have two other choices anyway. NOES 4 was one of the better films (IMO) to showcase the practical effects work of John Carl Buechler. (Mr. Buechler also worked on two other films on the list - The Prey and Mausoleum.)

  3. What if Shudder doesn't announce "Tigers Are Not Afraid" for October? We go with the backup pick, which is Uzumaki (Spiral) (2000).

  4. Why is Rob Zombie on the list? I was forced at gunpoint. Also I like controversy.
As always, streaming links will be listed in the subset threads when they go up [soon]. They're also on post 9 of the pre-challenge thread, although I may have overlooked some.

The theme/subset hybrid table is coming soon.

With as many horror movies I've seen, this forum manages to find a few every year I've never heard of... which is a good thing. Looking forward to this year.

That's a stellar subset list, even with the Rob Zombie film. Looking forward to it.

I suggest avoiding any trailers for The Seventh Curse (1986), they're way too spoilery. Same thing for movie reviews.

Forget about getting a dvd - the Fortune Star Legendary Collection edition is out of print and $$$, the only other one I've seen is probably a bootlegged English dubbed abomination.

You can stream it from Prime or AsianCrush. Unfortunately both have a version of the movie with the prologue removed. Otherwise the picture quality is about the same. I suppose the prologue is not specifically important to what follows, but it does set an interesting tone.

Avoid trailers for Der Fan as well. For folks that like to purchase the subset films, it's available on a quality Blu-ray release from Mondo Macabro:

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 15th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

The excitement of seeing all of Chad’s stellar work and this thing starting soon (tomorrow!) has led to my first nightmare in quite awhile.

I’ll skip the boring beginnings of it being a race relations story with an Atticus Finch character and a hero foreordained for death. It shifted from watching that story to suddenly being in it, driving fast down a country road, pursued by a biker. He overtook me, slowly driving by to let me see the rider as a mutated pig-man dressed in Hell’s Angels leather. I entered a house, fumbled with the locks, and looked for weapons or barricades as he attacked the house with machetes, pieces of the exterior flying into the air as he hacked away. He finally made it inside and there was nowhere for me to run or hide. I was weaponless and paralyzed by fear as the pig-man approached. He feigned a misunderstanding and offered me pizza; saying this was a party and even goofily throwing papers into the air like confetti and dancing with stuffed animals on the ground between us. I feigned happiness and danced while still filled with dread. As he offered me the pizza, his demeanor changed and he pinned me down and roughly force fed me until I woke up and started this stupid post.

It was much scarier before I started typing.

I can't keep up with all these titles being released. Is Severin releasing a non-slip version of VIY?

Its a nice diverse grouping for the subset pics. I personally dont mind Zombie until after the first Halloween.

It also happens to be the least ammount of new watches for me, with 12.

This year has a lot of new movies for me, many of which I've never even heard of. I think I've only seen 12 of this year's subset pics. Very interested in purchasing many of them if anyone knows where to find them.

Werewolves on Wheels (1971) for sure. Maybe Grandma Werewolf (2017) and/or Dog Soldiers (2002) depending on time (or if I fall asleep...). I'm also looking at The Wolf Man (1941) as a standby/alternate (an old favorite and a bit shorter).

I get off work at 4pm - but we have grandkids (ages 8, 12, & 16) until ~7pm so that can limit things (mainly with the 8yo). Looking at The Wolf Man (1941) early unless the 8yo wants to watch Hotel Transylvania (2012) or Hotel Transylvania 2 (2015).

I'm pretty sure they were but I can't find anything about it. In fact, a lot of these seem hard to find on physical media.

I can at least pick up the Scream Factory titles: REC, The House That Screamed, Vault of Horror and the Arrow release of The Prey.

Interested in picking up Viy, The Fury, and Boar if possible.

^Severin did state a standard edition without slip is coming after it sold out during the mid-year sale. The Blu-ray.com article just says "A standard edition is expected to be sold at major retailers later this year." whenever that is.

And it is on Shudder.

Probably a couple of F13 flicks - one most likely being Jason Takes Manhattan for the 30th anniversary. Sure, it's trash, but fun trash.

Not sure yet. Could do the Universal Wolf Man movies, the Howling movies, or one of my single non series Werewolf movies. Might also do some F13.
