Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 15: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

Here're my picks, Chad...and while I'm at it, I'll go ahead and volunteer for a subset pick. I'm going to plan on participating, although my participation may only be limited to weekends this year. We'll just have to see.

New themes:

Death by Drowning
Grief-related Horror
Frights, Camera...Traction!
The Willies
Scarecrows Killed Mrs. King

I also really like One-Word Titles, but I think that it would be better suited to the Checklist: Watch a film with a one-word title -

As far as returning themes go, I like the 25/50/75-year anniversary theme, although that could definitely also be moved to the checklist with the caveat that we watch a film from at least two of the three years.

And I think that it's time that we gave Euro horror a rest and tackled another continent--it's been a few years since we did Asia, right? And have we ever done Australia? There are quite a few really good horror films from there.

I'm always up for the '80s video companies spotlight; so far we've done Vestron, Embassy, Media, and Prism. How about for this year either doing VCI/United or Thorn EMI/HBO/Cannon?

I agree the checklist could use some freshening up.
I like moving one-word titles and anniversaries to the checklist rather than themes.

Here are some other checklist ideas:
Expand Agoraphobia - include any phobia or paranoia.
Add watch any horror film on anyone's 'best of' list.
Delete Masters of Commentary - change it to just 'watch a commentary.'

Jholmes made some good suggestions in the planning thread:
"Some other suggestions, with hardly any thought put into them whatsoever.
* takes place on a farm/rural (https://www.imdb.com/list/ls076573570/)
* Revenge movies could be an entire theme (https://www.imdb.com/search/title?ge...ort=moviemeter)
* Horror in which the hero is a kid or teen
* Disembodied body part (hand, head) - probably not enough for a theme but could be a checklist item"

Seconding this, Australia sounds good to me.

If it makes the cut, and since the first PG-13 film was on July 1, 1984 (a Sunday), I'll reserve it for the first Sunday of the month being that spot's currently open. That would be on 10/6.

You're on the list.

Yeah, last time we covered Asian horror was 2014. The one and only time we covered 'Australia/New Zealand' was 2010 (Asian horror also covered that year), so it's definitely due for a resurgence.

And instead of doing separate voting for the travel themes like we have in the past, I'll just update the 'reoccurring favorites' section to reflect all locations are up for a return. Just vote for the ones you want. No rules saying it has to be only one.

We actually covered farms with Harvest Horrors in 2013. I forgot it was under that name, which is why I temporarily included it on post 6 and later took it down. 'Rape/Revenge' was covered in 2010. The hero as kid/teen horror sounds familiar, but I don't think we ever found or compiled a list (I'll see what I can find). And finally, 'Features a Disembodied / Possessed Hand' was a previous checklist item.

I was just waiting for a broken link to rear its ugly head. And I've only replaced this one twice already.

Anyway, this isn't the best link, but it'll suffice until I hopefully find something better:

Thank you; but to clarify those are items we might consider adding to the checklist rather than using as theme nights. Maybe it's jumping to gun to want to look at making some changes to the checklist.

Thanks. At the risk of voting for a theme that might potentially cause us to watch The Bye Bye Man, I will add a vote for this theme.
