Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 15: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
Another theme night idea: since this year marks The Blair Witch Project's 20th anniversary, how about having a day devoted to movies about film crews making movies / TV shows? Oddly enough, we've never had The Blair Witch Project as a subset pick, so that would of course be the perfect one for this, but it was actually One Cut of the Dead that got me thinking along these lines. There are lots of films that would fit the theme: The House of Seven Corpses, The Taking of Deborah Logan, Man Bites Dog, etc. Here's a list from the IMDB search engine, but some of them are suspect.
It think that the key thing that separates this theme from the "Found Footage" theme is that these films must involve a film crew.
We could could it "Frights, Camera...Traction!" Or not.

And speaking of One Cut of the Dead, it's supposed to be up on Shudder sometime this year. That's according to Rob Galluzzo of the Shock Waves podcast. Of course it's already on Blu-ray in a few countries.
Also noticed the poster art for Evil in the Woods from that list is very reminiscent to the VHS cover art for The Video Dead:
Spoiler:
I thought shamelessly ripping off poster/cover art was confined mostly to Italy. Guess not.
Evil in the Woods would be perfect for the RiffTrax treatment, especially considering "Mike Nelson" is the associate producer.

Shudder is currently running a "live" rebroadcast of the original 13-film marathon for The Last Drive-In minus three of the films that lost their licensing agreement (The Prowler, Daughters of Darkness, The Legend of Boggy Creek) for the one year anniversary. They're also doing a live Twitter commentary. #TheLastDriveInMarathon

I'm so sorry, and I must apologize in advance, but I was watching Dream Home tonight (the Hong Kong film from 2010) and, God help me, it gave me another theme night idea:
The Willies
It's gotta be the worst idea for a theme night ever (and certainly the idea in the worst taste), but if we're going to rock out for the 15th Challenge, let's rock out with...well, you know.

We're currently down to a dozen subset volunteer spots left.
Also another theme was just added to the list...

This one's self-explanatory.

And if I haven't mentioned already, that's a birthday celebration, death, anniversary, etc. that's a use it or lose it theme. Or at least a five year wait with anniversaries.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 15: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
Theme voting starts Sunday night (7/21).
Thanks to a hectic week that's about a week later than I originally intended. Then again, maybe that's for the best considering there's not much activity in here currently, which is probably due to starting earlier.
But again, please share any suggestions you have that aren't already on post 6.
As usual we'll be voting on both new and returning themes. I'll post the significant anniversary dates for some of the latter soon.

This gives me a spur-of-the-moment checklist idea that's inspired by Darth Maher's 15th anniversary suggestion involving films (subset and otherwise) that have left somewhat of, well, let's say left an indelible mark on the challenge.
Watch 1 of your OHMC "favorites":
--- Shakma (1990) -
--- The Killer Tongue (1996) -

--- Burial Ground: The Nights of Terror (1981) -

Missing anything?

I could have sworn we ctalked about this as a theme night, but I can't see any dicussion on it. But what about Family Night for a theme. A lot of us doing this have kids or young ones...what about G rated/PG rated/Pg13 rated films.

We already covered it in 2013, which is why I didn't include it on post 6. But it can always come back as a returning theme, and it just so happens there's an anniversary associated with it this year. I'll post all the RT anniversaries and kickoff theme voting when I get back on my home computer sometime later tonight.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 15: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
Theme Nights Voting 2019 has begun!
- This is for both new and returning, 2 themes.
- If you've already voted, no problem. Just remember there's been quite a few additions added recently, so please recheck the suggestions list on post 6 periodically. Occasionally new theme suggestions are added after voting starts.
- There's no limit to how many times you can vote, or how many themes you can vote for. The only "rule" is one vote per theme. You can do it in this thread, or if you prefer privately - PM or via email. Makes no difference to me.
- Also, keep in mind that some themes have unfinished or better lists/links coming. One such example is the Horror Movies in Horror Movies, which will be cleaned up with hyperlinks directing to the main thread later if chosen.
- Certain themes might have to be combined with another theme or two if they don't provide enough titles.
- And finally, don't hesitate to share any last-minute suggestion submissions, which brings me back to what was said earlier -- recheck the list periodically.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 15: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)
And if you care about anniversaries, these previously used themes are celebrating the following:
Hammer / Amicus / Ealing / Black & Blue - Hammer Films 85th Anniversary. Founded 1934.
Sci-Fi Horror - 50th Anniversary of the moon landing. July 16, 1969.
Exploitation Horror Films - 45th Anniversary of Troma Entertainment. Founded 1974.
Family-Friendly Horror Films - 35th Anniversary of PG-13 Rating. July 1, 1984.
The Horrors of USA Up All Night - 30th Anniversary. First episode premiered January 7, 1989.
Also keep in mind season 2 of The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs has been announced, but no date has been set as of yet. The possibility exists that we could get our first "live" theme/subset for the Joe Bob theme if it airs in October.
