Safe Lists
The following lists are Automatic Safe lists. They are not definitive and there might be exceptions therein, especially concerning Distributors. Generally, the presence of those on the lists in an actual creative capacity (that is, more than just a cameo or bit part. For instance, Bruce Campbell appearing in Spider-Man does not make Spider-Man safe) is enough to make a film safe. Got more? Post them and I'll update the list. Obviously, films not including these participants are safe, too. Update: I added several new names to the actors list. Some of these actors appeared in actual big budget Hollywood fare, but most of their career was in B-Movies, then obviously discard the Big Hollywood movies and just watch the B's (For example, William Shatner. Ignore Star Trek movies but anything else is fair game. Or Patrick Swazye. Ghost is probably not right, but most of his other films were B-Movies).

Here's a great interview with Larry Cohen.

Thanks! That was an entertaining five hours. But I was a bit surprised he didn't do a Larry Cohen tribute right off the bat, or really even mention him much outside of comparing CHUD to Q.

Further research says it's live, but it really appears scripted.

I have my suspicions about the guest segments being scripted and pre-recorded. The Barbara Crampton interview looked like some editing took place. And there's no way the Reggie Bannister appearance from December with the silver spheres and head explosion CGI was done live on a Shudder budget.

Haven't been able to sleep tonight and don't have a Blu-ray player set up in my bedroom yet in my new place so I'm at the mercy of what's available streaming... I didn't feel like getting up to get the laptop so I checked out the OnDemand section and saw Slender Man was playing. I decided it's probably easy enough viewing for 5am and even though I have no desire to see it I'll start my month off with some internet horror exploitation.... I wasn't prepared for how truly awful this was.

Grit was doing an Audie Murphy night last night, so I decided to start with a western. The movie that I saw was Drums Across The River , about a man who was trying to prevent a war with the Utes. A crooked towns person was determined to start a war while him and his gang made off with stolen gold.

Re: 10th Annual Drive-in/Exploitation/B-movie Challenge. April 1-30, 2019

I started with Return to the 36th Chamber which is streaming on Netflix and AmazonPrime. It's more comedic than the first film and deals with a new character traveling to the temple to learn martial arts so he can protect the exploited workers of his town. By doubling down on the comedy, the film lowers the stakes a bit too much and introduces elements that kept taking me out of the narrative. The worst of these were the fake teeth and mole on a minor comedic relief character; I've never wanted a comedic relief character to bite it so much. However, the extended training section and the final confrontation were very enjoyable.

Forgot to mention that not only is this my first drive-in challenge with a roku & Epix, but it's also my first using Prime (Which will come very much in handy) I had fun with my first pick, Hellhole. I think I'm a bigger fan of Women-in-hospitals/sanitariums than Women-in-Prison(s). Too bad there's so little few of them!

Edit-God, this new layout's a pain in the butt. How do I get rid of all ^that "Color" crap?

Started off the challenge with Andy Milligan's Man with 2 Heads. Brutal camera work and editing, but the lead was actually pretty good - Denis DeMarne.

Re: 10th Annual Drive-in/Exploitation/B-movie Challenge. April 1-30, 2019

I started with Roots of Evil. The "One man alone against a perverted midget and his gangsters" synopsis instantly sold me, and it's one of those rare ones that actually lives up to the poster art. I can honesly say it's the only film I've seen with a martial arts workout montage with someone wearing leather fetish shorts while doing penis pushups. But as goofy as it was, it's got surprisingly good fight choreography considering it stars an Austrian folk singer.

And it was yet another Blu-ray (Subkulture) I've encountered that had sound on the menu, but no sound on the film (on a Samsung 4K player). Popped it in a PS4 and it played flawlessly.

Kicked things off with 6-Headed Shark Attack (2018) which was painful to get through. The shark looks like a starfish now as the heads go all around the body and you know there are a few more heads to come in this series.

Only the 2nd day of the challenge and the buffering/retrieving from the free channels on my roku has been horrible. I’m guessing that the WiFi is taking a beating since I’ve got a full house and everyone’s using it. Then again, the showings from Prime, Epix and YouTube have been flawless. Looks like I’ll have to rely on those 3 to get the job done!

Probably shouldn't have picked the end of a long, mentally exhausting day to try and finally watch Ganja & Hess, especially with Shudder's absolutely trash audio mix. I thought it was interesting and appreciated the bit I got out of it but it deserves a more proper viewing from me later.

^Out of curiosity, I've been wanting to see the recut "Drive-In" version of it (Known as Blood Couple) it used to be on youtube some years back. Should have checked it out when I had the chance.

OMG, Hired To Kill (1990) was excruciating! 8 mercenaries, one man and 7 women, pose as a fashion designer and 7 models to free a political prisoner. First of all, the man posing as the designer was a complete a$$ and the rooting for him to die was never ending (prepare to be disappointed). The 7 women models kept their clothes on the entire time, except for the briefest moment during one of the worst sex scenes I've ever seen, so there was no redeeming itself there. And to top it off, the Roku channel Midnight Pulp stopped every 10 minutes to show about 8 minutes of lung cancer treatment commercials. It was a brutal viewing experience and the movie was almost unwatchable (in a BAD way). Beware of this one

I had a similar experience a few days ago watching Nightmare Detective 2 (2008) on AsianCrush. I gave up around half-way and rented it from Prime. Nightmare Detective 2 was a much better movie, though.

Re: 10th Annual Drive-in/Exploitation/B-movie Challenge. April 1-30, 2019

While cleaning out a closet a while back I came across two Something Weird Video VHS tapes that I had totally forgotten about. Both were Mexican mask wrestler movies, Santo vs. the Zombies and Neutron vs. the Death Robots, so I started out the first two days of the challenge with one of these. Both were OK but I liked the Neutron one a little bit more. I'm sure I watched these before but I didn't remember anything about either one, maybe because they were pretty typical examples of each character's movies. I rounded out each day with unwatched DVDs from Vinegar Syndrome. The first was The Muthers about two female pirates who brave a jungle slave plantation to rescue one of the pirates kid sister. Kind of tame for a women in prison picture but entertaining. Yesterday The Cut-Throats was up. Near the end of WW2 six GIs raid a Nazi controlled country club, complete with hookers, to steal war plans. Lots of soft core sex, some just a little strange, alternated with lame war footage. Trashy fun. I went into this one cold thinking it was just a cheap action flick so it was my first surprise of the challenge.

I saw The Beach Bum, and Harmony Korine has given us Florida-Man-ploitation! Matthew McConaughey plays a famous poet who spends his days high and/or drunk and in search of "fun". His shenanigans are often the stuff of Cheech and Chong movies and garnished with enough thongs to please the Showgirls costume designer. I glanced at the reviews, and it's apparently a bit of a divisive film. I really enjoyed it!

Lifetime movies seem almost like they were made for this Challenge. Earlier in the evening, or morning as the case may be, I came across one called Girl In The Box. In it, a young woman is hitchhiking,!and then kidnapped. She ends up an almost willing slave thanks to one of her captors tricking her into thinking she had no choice but to submit.

Later on, I came across some Three Stooges on AMC. It seems like if they were helping the less fortunate, they always succeeded, but any time they were doing something for themselves, it was like, ‘You can’t win for losing’.

Re: 10th Annual Drive-in/Exploitation/B-movie Challenge. April 1-30, 2019

Yesterday's viewing started out with another recently unearthed tape, Half Human (1958) about an abominable snowman in the mountains of Japan. Footage from a Japanese movie Jû jin yuki otoko (directed by Ishiro Honda with special effects by Eiji Tsuburaya) is combined with American shot scenes featuring John Carradine as a professor recently returned from Japan. Carradine also narrates the Japanese scenes so no dubbing is required. Kind of a mishmash but the original film looks interesting. This reminded me of another movie I've been meaning to watch The Manster (1959) which is streaming with a really good picture on Amazon Prime. This was a US and Japan coproduction and I thought it turned out to be really good. An American journalist is injected with a special enzyme which cause him to go on a murderous rampage and transform into a horrible creature. I think any fan of 50's monster movies will enjoy this.

Strangely enough, Kenneth G. Crane was involved with directing both of these movies (the U.S. scenes in the first and listed as co-director in the second) which I didn't realize until I saw his name in the credits of The Manster.

My blu of Nemesis (1992) came in today. Compared to my old PAL 1:33.1 dvd, it was like practically watching a new movie. Yes, it's uneven, sometimes nonsensical, and about the last 1/4 of the movie is one long chase/battle (not to mention the unapologetic Terminator, ah, homage), but still plenty cheesy fun. It's also among the first cyberpunk movies that are actually influenced by cyberpunk.

Commentary on the first but not the second Ghoulies? Also letting the director go mute and just watch the film halfway thru the commentary? For shame Scream Factory.

Just popped in this little ditty:
