Safe Lists
The following lists are Automatic Safe lists. They are not definitive and there might be exceptions therein, especially concerning Distributors. Generally, the presence of those on the lists in an actual creative capacity (that is, more than just a cameo or bit part. For instance, Bruce Campbell appearing in Spider-Man does not make Spider-Man safe) is enough to make a film safe. Got more? Post them and I'll update the list. Obviously, films not including these participants are safe, too. Update: I added several new names to the actors list. Some of these actors appeared in actual big budget Hollywood fare, but most of their career was in B-Movies, then obviously discard the Big Hollywood movies and just watch the B's (For example, William Shatner. Ignore Star Trek movies but anything else is fair game. Or Patrick Swazye. Ghost is probably not right, but most of his other films were B-Movies).

He's mentioned in a few podcast interviews that Shudder prefers he keeps tight-lipped about the titles until it starts. I think they just made an exception last week for Larry Cohen.

Forgot about those, too. Might even break out one of the Video Nasties DVDs this weekend since they've been collecting dust for 3 1/2 years.

And this is a good resource for the older ones despite not being updated since 2015:

Mostly because the trailers are marketed towards the English-speaking crowd with the Drive-In/Grindhouse POV.

Re: 10th Annual Drive-in/Exploitation/B-movie Challenge. April 1-30, 2019

This challenge is perfect for showing me that I have a high tolerance for what are normally critically panned movies. I saw that Rotten Tomatoes rated The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen as a very bad movie, with a rating of 17%. Myself, I have always enjoyed that movie, so when I saw it was on Starz, I jumped at the chance to watch it again. I’ll be gone later today for an early Easter dinner, so won’t get as much watched as I would like, but I am planning to pick up my pace, as I would love to get a decent total this year. I’m not even at 10 yet.

I watched Seth's review for "Grindhouse Nightmares". Good thing I resisted giving that a blind-buy!

Also noticed that Pluto TV added a "Cult Movies" channel to their lineup. Today, they had the Killer Tomatoes double-feature and Maniac (Crazy 30's version) was on last night. Wonder what other goodies they've got!

Now see, if you had watched it back in '82 like you were supposed to, you'd have a totally different perspective, but you had to wait 30 plus years, watching who knows how much genre stuff, a fair chunk of it owing a nod or more to Poltergeist. Truly the stuff of Afterschool Specials.

Of course, you are absolutely correct. I withdraw my statement. But still... I just expected more. and actually the biggest thing was that is was so much like a family movie and not nearly enough of the horror that I had been expecting.

Don't. I saw it back in '82 and had the exact same opinion. Still do. It was, and is, a half-baked family "horror" movie.

Well, since it's 420, I guess I'll point out that I finally got to see an *Uncut* version of Marihuana (1936) complete with extra nude stripping from the "Weed-infested" ladies on Grindhouse's Flickstream TV channel earlier. I wonder where this print came from considering my DVD (Via Mill Creek set) and a TCM Underground showing doesn't include the footage. And I just found out that the Something Weird Video version (With audio commentary by Mike Vraney and Dave Friedman) is on youtube. I'll be checking that out later to see if that's uncut as well. If not, it'll be a treat to hear those two comment about the film at least.

DC movies in general don’t get the acclaim that the Marvel movies do, but even if they wouldn’t be considered good movies, they are oh so enjoyable. I just watched Jonah Hex for the first time, on HBO, and I was glued to my phone for the entire movie. I could easily see him as one of the Hellblazers.

It's nearly over. Thanks everyone for participating. Please finalize your lists by next week. If you can, please tally up totals on movies watched and first time views. It's sometimes difficult to count the little * on each list. I can't guarantee when I'll have them counted up (I don't think I even finished it last year). As I said before, I've got a few things I'm going through and time is a premium. This month alone was spent in hotel rooms in Charleston WV and Nashville TN. Finalizing my forced retirement from my job of 30 years and interviewing for a new job this week. Not to mention, I celebrate my 50th birthday May 1.

Thanks for hosting, caligula, and happy birthday!

I finally watched the Bruce Willis Death Wish after finding it on Prime. It got some buzz here, but seemed like by-the-numbers revenge thriller. Also available the Bronson version, so I watched that too, and am pretty sure I’d never seen it before. Weird to see Jeff Goldblum in a small but important role.

Also coming up in the same “willis” search was a 2015 sex comedy-drama called The Escort. Not sure if it counts here as a sex comedy-drama (the male lead is a sex addict), but it was interesting and kinda sweet. And damn, the hooker was played by Lyndsy Fonseca, who played Ted Mosby’s future daughter in How I Met Your Mother. How quickly they grow up.

Happy birthday, Caligula! Thanks for hosting! (And sorry about your forced retirement.)

I managed to watch over 40 movies, even with a road trip. I ended with Ghost Warrior (1984), a movie about a frozen samurai who is brought back to life in the 1980s. It was... uneven - not the worst thing I watched but not as crazy as the premise makes it sound.

Wow! This was the first time in all these years doing this challenge where there wasn't a single unbearable title watched, and there was Andy Milligan, Tim Kincaid, and Al Adamson flicks involved.

My list isn't quite complete, but I should have it done soon along with [hopefully] a recap of the best/worst.

My list is finalized.

Total: 100
First Time Views: 94

Thanks again for hosting this, Caligula. And Happy birthday.

Re: 10th Annual Drive-in/Exploitation/B-movie Challenge. April 1-30, 2019

I ended up with 75 movies (67 FTV) way more than I though I'd get in. None were totally awful although a few tried my patience and I enjoyed several quite a bit. A big takeaway for me was just how good Larry Cohen really was. I always knew that I liked his movies but watching six of his films during this challenge (Bone, Black Caesar, Hell Up in Harlem and the It's Alive trilogy) and two last October (The Stuff, God Told Me To) gave me a new appreciation for him, especially his scripts. He credited the viewer with some intelligence and he is one of the few who did social commentary in a way I could enjoy. I usually find it too heavy handed and obvious but not in his stories.

Many thanks for keeping this going Caligula and a belated Happy Birthday.

Thanks for hosting Caligula. Not especially big numbers, but I didn't miss a day (or burnout) either. Didn't make it to the drive-in this year unfortunately. Weather didn't cooperate. Looking forward to next year.
