Thanks for all the links Mao.

So one of my goals for this challenge was no Nazis. I just don't want to watch Nazis this year. This basically removed all the WWII movies from the list and I have to say, this really limits the options. So I settled in to watch an animated short on Amazon Prime last night, My Grandmother Ironed the King's Shirts and three minutes into the short, there are the Nazis. *sigh* Nice short film otherwise.

I have a friend who's just getting into movie watching so I made them a list based on IMDB's Top 250. We've made a dent but hopefully there will be a larger one made in the next month. The only thing that might get in our way is HBO. We're also watching True Detective and doing the Game of Thrones Binge Watch Challenge (2-3 episodes every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday until the new season begins to re-watch the entire series). Crazy but fun!

Tommy was crazy and I say as much in my review. I've never seen anything like it.

Two more reviews:
Smokey and the Bandit

I know that I can't officially 'tally' / number these in my list - but as fun, I'm actually going to use the time when I'm not able to watch a movie, is to try to listen to a full complete soundtrack that has either been nominated or won 'Best Score for a Motion Picture'

So I didn't write a full review of the original version of The Longest Yard but I have a question. The TSM intro and imdb list this film as a comedy. What did I miss because I didn't think the film was very funny. Have I become too sensitive to violence?

Wow! Super impressed by Minding the Gap! Not at all what I expected. I was not all that excited to see it because I thought it was a doc about skateboarders. Well, It was, BUT so much more! Amazing movie made by a very talented young man. Make sure you see this one.

Each year I use this challenge to check off classic movies that I have never seen, but this year I am having trouble finding some. Guess I have finally marked off all the "must sees", so now on to the "must see... if you have time."

This year my priority is going to be catching up on the winners from the last several years. Somehow I keep putting off films like Moonlight, Birdman, and The Artist. Might actually do the checklist for a change too. Won’t start until Feb 1 though, want to concentrate on TV a bit more.

One of my goals is to watch some of the Marvel movies, in preparation for a rewatch of Avengers: Infinity War . I also like to watch the great grandfather of Ancient Aliens, Chariots Of The Gods , which is available on Amazon through Gaia. Been concentrating on TV lately,?but might start my Challenge tonight.

Nice find, lisadoris! I'm gonna watch it at home on import 3D. I'd be all over this if they offered in 3D....but go and see it on the big screen, if you can.

Re: The 13th Annual Academy Award Movie Challenge (January 22, 2019 - February 24, 2019)

So, I found kanopy.com today! What a cool site....tons of movies! And they have the Oscar nominated documentary "Of Fathers And Sons" and the nominated animated short "Weekends", along with a bunch of Oscar winning/nominated movies.

And all I needed was a library card number!

You only have 10 watch credits per month...but, for free? I'll take it! Thanks, public library!

Thanks to the polar vortex, I got a lot of viewing done (I just haven't written any reviews, I'll get to that). Today I think I'll do a Claude Rains double feature with Casablanca and Notorious and then cleanse the Nazi's from my palette with the Blue Brothers movies - both of whom fit the in memoriam category.

I just bought A Star is Born on VUDU (preordered the Blu-ray). I can't wait to watch it tonight, after Groundhog Day of course.

TCM always has a great selection for their 31 Days Of Oscar. I was browsing the Dish Guide this morning, looking for a movie to watch, and came across Sudden Fear, which starred both Joan Crawford, and a young Jack Palance. She played a playwright who discovered that Jack, her new husband was plotting with his girlfriend to murder her and get all of her money. It was a great suspense film.

It's Super Bowl Sunday and that means it's time for my annual re-watch of The Godfather trilogy.

Used to make a day of it with friends, pasta, wine and cigars....back in the VHS days, when we watched the Godfather Epic (oddly, my preferred method if I'm going to watch them together). Still have the VHS set, and will wait patiently for it to be released on a high definition format.

I always go into this challenge with no plan. A mix of watching all of the year's Best Picture nominees, getting to as many of this year's other nominees as I can (I'm missing a lot this year!), and just pulling things off the shelf that I haven't watched for this challenge before. I'm having a blast so far!

Wish I could go back in time and watch this instead of that "game". Hell, I'd have settled for all the Police Academies.
