Happy Halloween, all!

We made it again!

Just completed the checklist for the first time in many years and, gotta' say, watching flicks centered around that really got me exploring some flicks I'd never seen!

Happy haunting!

Prize pack 3 is in the mail. My little end table where I had the boxes looks so sad and empty now.

Same here. I did have Vampire Hotel, the final season of Ash vs. Evil Dead and a few others to catch, but instead opted to spend the month ripping open the Blu-rays in my unwatched pile. I had a blast going the all movie route, even if my DVR is bursting at the seams.

This is true.

The atmosphere and Jack-o'-lanterns throughout qualify it, IMO. Saw it on a few Halloween-themed lists, too.

I wasn't exclusively film, but my TV watching was very limited and only included qualifying titles or episodes. My DVR is under 10% really for the first time ever. I'd usually have plenty of time to clear it but will be going out of town for a few days starting Saturday. Not looking forward to that backlog.

Unpopular opinion but I enjoyed the recent Blair Witch (2016). Like many of you, I'm totally sick of found footage movies, but I think Adam Wingard excels at them. I thought the design of the final house was very creepy and he showed just enough to be scary without ruining the mystery. Full disclosure I never enjoyed the original film very much.

made it over 100 but hit a wall last few days called work. I would like to tell everyone that i recently got the new Universal 30 Film Blu Ray Box Set and the first thing i did was watch Revenge of the Creature in 3d. It works, no duplicate screen business. The 3d is not great, but does give you image depth. Bottom line is Universal appears to have fixed the creature issues.

Happy Halloween!

I gotta say, I've been suffering from burnout the past few days. Still, I'm sad to see this ending. There was a ton of stuff I never got around to watching and some I wish I hadn't. But, it was another good challenge and I enjoyed it. Not as much as I did last year, but still had a lot of fun.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 14th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

Another word of caution:

Scream Factory has a new blu ray release for The Bride, so i thought i would check it out on amazon prime.

I was thinking that 30 years plus time would be kinder to this film. The film was lamblasted by critics and fans when it was released.

bottom line - it is horrible . time does not help. it is just a bad film, badly acted and commits the sin of boredom. They could have run the end credits after the midget dies and saved us all alot of pain.

2/10

I was hoping to make it to 100,and if tonight were a weekend night, I could do it, but this ain't the year. I'm going to close out the challenge by watching the new Olive release of Invasion of the Body Snatchers that arrived today.

I'm probably ending at 108 with The Oblong Box, a nifty Vincent Price/Christopher Lee/EA Poe joint from 1969. Life certainly slowed me down this last weekend, but that's okay. Thanks to mightysparks for the They Shoot Zombies list, which led me toward quite a few new and good things. And of course to Chad, the founder of the feast.

Finished at 133 with DAVE MADE A MAZE. Perfect way to end the challenge--I loved it. I got in 5 films today and ended with DMAM at 10pm. I'm calling it done!

Had a great time. Will write more when I'm not falling asleep.

Downpour has the audio version of the new novelization of Halloween on sale for $2.95, probably only until midnight. It’s about 9 hours long, so maybe fleshes out the story a bit.

The challenge is finished for me this year. Made 60. A good showing by my standards. Thank you very much for making this happen again this year. It’s a good distraction from everyday worries, stress, work life to participate in this every year. This is the only month of the year when I watch this many movies. 98% are from my own personal stockpile which i’m Proud to own. ( and always looking to add more titles ) I hope to participate in the up coming years. And to help to make this horror challenge a successful venture. Thank you, this truly is a wonderful thing.

Popping in here to say a happy halloween 2018 to all & plan to update my list by the deadline just been feeling under the weather this entire month with my chronic illnesses & watching horror movies while resting to distract myself got quite a bit in compared to usual that I wanted to see which is a plus. Always a joy to read updates from this forum everyone’s challenge experiences, hope to interact more in the future.

Just made 100 watching The Adams Family with the daughter after we got back from trick or treating. Going to watch something for the Comedy crossover here and then I am out at 101.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 14th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

I hope everyone had a good Halloween tonight! I was able to catch the Suspiria remake and really really liked it. It is a movie that needs and is deserving of multiple viewings to really process it but Luca Guadagnino did an excellent job honoring the original while creating a film that is his own in terms of style, story and form.

Now to hit #75 with the original before bed and calling it a challenge.

Yeah, my DVR isn't happy with me. I had plenty of horror stuff on it...Fear the Walking Dead, Walking Dead, Outcast, AHS. Just didn't feel like watching any of it. At this point, I'll probably keep it on the back burner until the comedy challenge is finished as well.

I had a fun challenge, but only made 60 this year. There’s a lot I had planned to watch, but never got around to.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 14th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

Somehow managed it to an epic 226 films; I had a blast this month binging on films and enjoyed the discussion here. Completed subset, themes, and even that damned checklist. Now to sleep for as long as possible (or about 4 hours until accursed work).

Many thanks to Chad for pulling off another one as the unstoppable host of these horror movie challenges. I'm surprised he hasn't melted down in some sort of horror induced blindness or cerebral hemorrhage (like I feel I'm about to) after all this time and the considerable effort it's obvious Chad pours into this thing. Much appreciated.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 14th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

I finished at 106 entries with Captain Kronos:  Vampire Hunter, a favorite. I completed the film subset, a first for me, along with theme nights and the checklist -- no duplicates.

These challenges can be a chore but a fun chore nonetheless. Responding to a question of winning battles or losing them Captain Kronos said, "A little of both. And not enough of either."

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 14th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

To end the challenge, I watched The Innocents which gave me the last check I needed to complete the checklist! As I've mentioned before, this is the first time I've even come close to this, and it was only possible because my squeamishness about gore and jump scares has greatly reduced recently. I'm not sure why. Unfortunately, I did have to double up some entries to get all the checks; my viewing dropped off the last few days due to some health issues and getting sucked into Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

I watched 84 entries - 66 of which were first time viewings! It was a really fun time, and I'm committed to exploring the genre throughout the year and not just in October.

Nice way to finish, an underrated classic! I got to hear Caroline Munro talk about it briefly last weekend and she had nothing but great things to say about it.

This is my first year doing the full challenge and, having reached 133, it's hard to fathom how anyone could do 226. I salute you!

CHAD - Similarly, I can't imagine someone organizing this challenge for 14 years. All the graphics and cat-herding and interesting little videos and posters you add: +++. They make it fun. Thank you.

Last night one of my watches was Halloween H2O. I've never seen it and thought it would be interesting to compare it to the new Halloween since it's set at 20 years and has Laurie Strode dealing with Michael's return. It was pretty good actually. But is it in the same universe at the latest film? In the latest film she has a daughter, not a son and there's no mention of her "years as a headmistress". Also, MM isn't decapitated. So I guess the new Halloween assumes H2O doesn't exist.

I loved that:
Spoiler:
Near the end, I was cursing the screen for the typical "hurt the bad guy mildly and run away" trope, screaming at her to cut his fucking head off. AND THEN SHE DID! WHOO HOO!

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 14th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

Great challenge as always. Thanks to Chad and everyone who participated. I dragged myself to the finish line this year, but completed 108 films with 57 first time watches.

The highlights :
1. Straw Dogs (1971) 9/10 - Exceptional rape/revenge thriller along the lines of Last House on the Left.

2. Kwaidan (1964) 9/10 - A masterpiece of story-telling. Probably the best Japanese Ghost Anthology ever made. At three hours plus, it probably could be trimmed down a bit.

3.Hereditary (2018) 10/10 - a modern masterpiece of suspense and terror. A very un-nerving film.

The Lowlights:

1.The Bride (1986) 2/10 - I was thinking that 30 years plus time would be kinder to this film. The film was lamblasted by critics and fans when it was released. bottom line - it is horrible . time does not help. it is just a bad film, badly acted and commits the sin of boredom. They could have run the end credits after the midget dies and saved us all alot of pain.

2.Dr Caligari (1989) - 3/10 - WTF?.

3.Twisted Nightmare (1987) 2/10 - A test of your endurance and your capacity to sit through an incoherent plot, bad acting, irritating casio keyboard soundtrack and finally, a film shot in virtual total darkness.
