Since we won't (shouldn't) have the door knockers begging for candy I'm hoping my grandson will stay with us while his sisters go to a "Fall Festival" at church. He's 15 and, IMHO, too old to go but his mom did take him along for Trick or Treat tonight so... He's been wanting to see The Shining and I've been holding off watching my new US version BR to watch with him. If not, then it's horror comedy night for the Comedy Challenge cross-over.

Wow, they just change Halloween night all willy-nilly over there? I would so hate to live in that town.

At least it's not some Footloose scenario that bans Halloween entirely.

Just a quick word on Stephanie (maybe not entirely a spoiler but I'll play it safe and be vague):

Spoiler:
Throughout the movie little things were bothering me like why the windows weren't barred on the outside of the house, or why the fence was built in the way it was, but then once everything came together, it all made perfect sense. I'm totally going to watch this again next month.

Also, shit-ass!

Same here. I figured it out a bit early, but it did keep me guessing for awhile. And that shit-ass scene was hilarious. That little girl is a very good actress.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 14th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

One thing I missed on the checklist that I hoped to get was attending a live event. We have one called Jason's Woods near here, but unfortunately I left it too late. I planned to go last weekend but we had a storm and it was raining hard both days. The main event is outdoors, so that didn't work. And they aren't open weeknights. I might go next weekend just to see it, but it won't count for the challenge.

Last night's devil debauchery included Demon Wind, The Craft (1996), Terrified (2017), The Unholy (1988), and The Devil's Doorway (2018). Of these, the one I can wholeheartedly recommend is Terrified, which is on Shudder. It's super creepy and I liked the unusual Argentine setting. I also really enjoyed The Craft, but YMMV. I tend to like high school bullies-get-their-comeuppence dramas.

The Devil's Doorway is a found footage film about two priests who investigate strange occurrences at a nun's home for wayward girls. It started out promising, since I like religious horror, but it turns into a cliched possession mishmash. I did like the theme that the church's sins, and their cover ups, are the real evil.

There are a few movies, like The Apostle and Stephanie, that I haven't gotten to because I've been trying to focus on the day's themes and checklist. Looking forward to seeing those at a more leisurely pace in November.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN ALL.

Appointments and errands most of the morning/afternoon and tickets for a wrestling show tonight pretty much ensure that the challenge has come to an end for me. I'm pretty happy that I topped last year's total. I think this is the first year since I've been participating where I watched no tv shows and used no wildcards....nothing but movies throughout the entire month. I've enjoyed myself a ton.

Re-visited the original Poltergeist late last night. I've seen it a dozen or more times I'm sure. This time was different in that my daughter watched it as well for the very first time. I wasn't thinking ahead of time that I'd have to explain how television stations would sign off late at night with the anthem before turning to static.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 14th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

Happy Halloween! I hope you have a spook-tacular day!

I was on the path to finish the checklist without doubling any entries, but then I got a bad stomach bug that took me out of commission. So with a bit of doubling, I have one check left to obtain in the dreaded "recently deceased" category. I'm going to watch The Innocents after work to get the last check and finish one of these dang lists! Huzzah!

I've had a blast this month getting to some unseen staples of the genre like Candyman and The Amityville Horror and rewatching some old favorites.

Stephanie, Fear Inc, Mohawk, and Apartment 212 are ones I especially enjoyed - top tier.

Some that were 'meh, possibly worth seeing esp if trailer grabs you' are Living Among Us, Night of the Virgin, Jeepers Creepers 3, Still/Born, and Mom and Dad. Not bad films, I enjoyed them.

Your mileage may vary.

Just finished Fear Inc, available on Hulu, as a film that fits today's Halloween theme and is especially good - a 'custom scares' event that may or may not be real. The less you know going in the better it is. Intense without being especially bloody and there are some nice horror references.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 14th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

Happy Halloween to all! It's going to be a busy day. We're doing a Halloween potluck at work for lunch. I made toxic waste mac and cheese. After work, I unfortunately have to work the dreaded Boo at the Zoo. I've somehow managed to avoid it the last 3 or 4 years, but being short-staffed and the new manager means I can't avoid it this time.

So, because of that, I likely won't get home from work unto 9:30 or 10. My goal for tonight then is to try to get in one theme movie, the Peanuts special and to complete one last TV entry (I already have an hour show completed and halfway through a 30-minute show. It's an ambitious goal, especially considering I'm sure to be tired, but we'll see how it goes.

Theme question for today. I know Peanuts counts as a full entry, but can it also be used for the theme requirement? In case I'm super exhausted, they might be an alternative for me to consider.

Woo! We made it!

It seems like everyone in the building dressed up today, and it's a very festive atmosphere. I've been amassing a good pile of candy as people have taken to the halls to trick-r-treat in reverse. They bring the candy to you. This is the life.

I hope everyone has a safe and grand Halloween, with the perfect movie.

Chad will likely see this to verify soon, but I’m 99% sure that it’s been ruled in the past that theme compliance can be had by anything: short, TV show, film, wildcard, live event, whatever.

I’m not sure that today’s subset film, Sleepy Hollow, fits the themes of Halloween or Celtic related.

And just because *some* forecasters in the area were saying storms, hail, high winds. Not the Weather Service, but some local weather people who seem to think they know better. The Weather Service says "heavy rain tonight" (1-2") with no time frame given. That normally means 8pm or later before it hits. Still... as a kid some of the absolutely best times were when the weather was crappy. I took my kids under an umbrella at least one year and they racked up as most people stayed home.

So... HAPPY HALLOWEEN everyone!

If you run into my daughter be sure to witch her "Happy Birthday!" When she was little she thought everyone was celebrating her birthday.

Sleepy Hollow does not strictly fit today's theme, which was discussed in the planning thread with outcome being that it came close enough.

Thanks. I picked up Stephanie and Fear Inc. I might grab Apt 212.

I really enjoyed Blood Fest. It's a fun Comedy/Horror flick.

I also really enjoyed The Cleanse, which is perhaps more dramatic than frightening but has a sinister undercurrent and a story unlike any other with some allegory elements that I think will be worth revisiting.

I've got Blood Fest on deck for tonight's comedy crossover.

Just watched original Halloween readying for tonight's screening of the 2018 flick and, for the first time in many, MANY viewings, had a chuckle thinking of Michael trying to find a white bedsheet and rummaging around for scissors in a strange house to then try to align it all to cut holes to perfectly go over his eyes already under a mask, slip on the sheet and then pop a set of glasses over it.

Now that's dedication!
