Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 14th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

Since folks are throwing out some milder films for mid-challenge, I watched one tonight I'd like to rec. Errementari: The Blacksmith and the Devil (2017). New on Netflix. It's a Basque film (English dubbed) based on folklore about a Blacksmith who captures a demon. I liked it. Lovely cinematography and some cool demon/afterlife effects. Little to no bloodshed and gore. More of a fable. It's fairly family friendly (though it might scare little kids). A nice change of pace after Cannibal Ferox and New York Ripper!

The head was from the German poster of Day of the Dead (as "Zombie 2"):

Spoiler:

The mask, hands coming from the cube, and the cube itself are from the Japanese poster for Demons:

Spoiler:

And finally, the bigger hands holding the cube are from Cardiac Arrest:

Spoiler:

It was previously used in a past banner (with the heart intact).

And FYI, some of the images were right under your nose! Four of the film images used in the banner were taken from posters used in the 31 film subset -- Lifeforce, Dr. Cyclops, The Blood on Satan's Claw, and Demon Wind.

Congrats to the winners. I concur that it was a harder banner than normal this year. I couldn't even find 10 I knew.

Does it seem like The Purge films have turned more into a social commentary than the very first movie that popped up? I don't remember seeing it playing on race and class as much as the past couple of films.

Congrats to both winners! Could only identify a few in the banner, and failed miserably on the bonus.

And you’re welcome on the video tip Darkgod; but in your defense, the forum has changed the way they do youtube imbeds at least once, and multiple ways still work. I just find the [yt] method easiest.

Should I be reading something into the two different prices for The Shining? Is one much better than the other? Should I be double checking which one I have?

I don’t know about any other differences, but one looks like a Blu Ray and the other looks like a DVD.

Congrats to the winners. I didn't have a clue on the bonus question and the banner question was also tough.

Can someone explain Hjemsøkt to me? I kind of watched doing other stuff, lost the plot, and don't want to watch it all again!

Spoiler:
The whole idea (I thought) is that the woman's aunt, only 7, disappeared...but to me it looks like only the person who disappeared was the aunt (or grandmother???) who lost it and tried to kill the little girl? Was the blonde the little girl who disappeared all along?

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 14th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

Congrats to Seth and Orlmac!

I'll have to agree that the banner was a bit more tough this year. The bonus was impossible. What was the movie with the long neck woman on the top left? I submitted some movie I've never heard of (100 Monsters), but I thought it was in a movie I had seen within the past year or so. Can't remember that movie as well. I'm getting old!

Watched Constantine: City of Demons and felt it was pretty good. I've had the entire range of emotions regarding The Sleeper, and I've settled on 'middle of the road'. I thought the Israeli movie Rabies was quite enjoyable and I really want to spend some more time with it. Loved Thirst (2015).

Keep those suggestions coming.

That's it exactly. The higher priced is BR the other is DVD.

You *may* want to check the one you have anyway - depending on if you purchased any of the UK Stanley Kubrick sets or the UK release of just that film. If I'm reading information correctly, all the UK sets have the "International" release of The Shining which is a different cut, shorter by ~24 minutes.

The US BR SE is 144 minutes.
The UK BR is 119 minutes.

I discovered this after purchasing the UK "
Stanley Kubrick: Visionary Filmmaker Collection Stanley Kubrick: Visionary Filmmaker Collection
" so now have two versions of the film (I purchased a US version of The Shining shortly after).

Yes, it was from Yokai Monsters: 100 Monsters (1968). I watched that on the 7th. There are several other Yokai movies: Yokai Monsters: Spook Warfare (1968), Yokai Monsters: Along With Ghosts (1969), and Miike's The Great Yokai War (2005). There are probably others, but these are the well known ones.

Chad, inquiring minds want to know. How many people got the bonus question right? And which of the 3 movies was the most correctly guessed?

Wow, didn't expect the banner to be that tough. Sorry, wasn't intentional.

Quite a few didn't bother with the bonus, but for those who did, well, not a single person got all three right. The most correctly guessed answer was Cardiac Arrest with around 10 people, and that's not including those that stated it in their banner answers only. And not surprisingly Dawn of the Dead got quite a few, which is understandable considering the German Day poster is just a more elaborate version of the Dawn poster. Also one [separate] response for Demons (you), and zero for Day.
