B-Movie TV is just about the only channel I watch anymore.
Not surprised. I used to watch that channel a lot, but I haven't checked it out in several months. Last time I tuned in, it was just a screen talking about GoFundMe.
The woman who ran Bizarre TV died after fighting cancer for several months. That's the other channel I used to watch just about everyday.
It isn't a coincidence, Shockwerks TV and B-Movie TV used the same servers, and the server guys raised their rates. You should only get one commercial at a time on B-Movie TV, so if you get more, it's a glitch that may or may not be worked out soon. Ken Brewer, the guy who runs B-Movie TV, doesn't want to charge for the channel or go the GoFundMe route, so commercials make sense. As long as there aren't a lot and they only play between movies, I'll keep watching.

Anyone know what’s up with the Halloween Flix channel? The description says “Watch over 40 premium horror movies for free”. But I click there and all I see is AFV Halloween clips and makeup tutorials(?)

Finally getting my Plex server set up properly. Will load it for the rest of the month with whatever horror is under my hand while I rifle my shelves for titles. I have been concentrating on "rarities" and whatever piqued my interest. It'll be a lot easier to find something to watch if I don't have to shovel through my discs. What I've got so far (more than enough for the Challenge if I keep myself to a movie a day):

Probably dumb question, but what is a Plex server?

It's a personal media server. You install the server, sign up (depending on your needs there are paid/unpaid levels), get your media on a drive, do a little more setup and you're good to go. Yes, that was a simplification, but you get the gist.

Thanks for the tip on this. I have a Drobo storage drive with almost 2000 movies on it. When I want to watch something on the big TV, I used to have to put it on a USB drive. And I couldnt' watch any of my digital movies on my iPad because it took so long to load them up to the cloud and then my iPad does't have a lot of storage on it for downloading (or a USB port either).

I saw something about the Plex media server a while back, but I thought it worked by uploading everything you owned to the cloud, and that's not practical with the huge size of my library. But your post made me look at it again.

And voila! It doesn't upload movies to the cloud, it just accesses them right off your in-home server. So this should work great for me! Now I can watch any of my movies on my iPad. Awesome! I'm still playing around with it, but it looks like it will do the trick.

I use the Plex app on my Pixel C tablet (mostly when I'm in bed or maybe in the kitchen) and it works pretty well. You can also use a browser and the web interface in a pinch.

Plex is also cool as you can share your library with friends (provided you have good upload speeds).

I was watching The Incredible Dr. Pol when I saw a commercial for the new American Horror Story . It starts Wednesday at 10 PM EST, and is entitled ‘Apocalypse’. That surprised me, as I had heard this season was going to be a crossover season of ‘Murder House’ and ‘Coven’.

I forgot new TV season is starting already. Lot of my shows happen in Oct it looks like. And it is a crossover season. Might be the first season I watch in quite some time.

It's not quite that straightforward, but yes. You can include extras, it's just more work. First however, you need a drive. 8 TB external (usb 3.0) hd's are finally cheap enough that I was willing to pick one up. By the time I fill it up (from backlog), I'll probably be able to buy a 10 TB or better for a reasonable price. Depending on the size of your collection 8 TB may be overkill. I'm more interested in squeezing as many movies and tv episodes as I can on my drive so unless it's something really special, I'm skipping extras.

I used a Drobo 5N, which has 5 bays for drives. It's a RAID device, meaning that it backs up everything redundantly on more than 1 drive so that if you have a drive failure it still has the data. And you can replace a drive without having to do any copying. For example, when I get ready to upgrade my last 2 TB drive to a 6TB or more, I can just pop the old one out and put the new one in.

I rip all my blu rays and DVDs. I keep some and sell others when I'm done. I like having it all digital, and I don't like accumulating a lot of physical "stuff". I used to only rip the main movie, but now I tend to rip everything on the disc and save it.

I'm noticing as Plex uploads my library that when I have extras, they are initially shown as separate "movies", but it seems to catch up and then list them all under one movie banner with a little folder with a number in the corner (like "6" if there are six files). That's a nice feature.

I thought about going that route, but I just don't have the space and wasn't comfortable with the price (mostly the space issue). I console myself with the fact that drives are pretty dependable these days.

True. I've never had a drive fail to my knowledge. The ability to swap discs in and out is pretty sweet though.

So I easily have over 1k in movies. Not a lot of TV shows because of Netflix, Hulu etc. The two devices that were mentioned, how much do they run? And would 1k+ in movies plus extras be enough to fit in one? Curious on the price to see if I can flip my collection and at least break even. Would be nice to have my entire collection that I can just easily access instead of going through the mess that is my physical media.

With a drobo, you have to buy the drobo itself and then the drives that go in it. Here are their options:

If you just buy an eternal drive, it's less expensive. Just depends on the size you want. I usually by Seagate or Western Digital.
This 6TB WD is $179. That should be big enough.

But if you get an external drive like this, and don't have a drobo, you'll need a USB 3.0 to SATA adapter to connect the drive to your computer.

Maybe other people have other recs for a single drive. Since I use the drobo, I haven't done that myself. I get the SATA drives and put them in my Drobo. Then the Drobo connects to my laptop via an Ethernet cable.
