If it is the one I am thinking of, I believe I watched Joy last year for this Challenge. Is it the movie about the lady who invented the new kind of mop? If so I believe it was very well acted.

Yesterday, I hosted a new DVD Talk Forum member, my friend oscarwinna. I programmed a day of films that he never saw before: The Gay Divorcee, Glory, Spartacus, Federico Fellini's 8-1/2, and The Color of Money. We also were going to watch the 1952 version of Moulin Rouge but we had inclement weather and he had to leave early. His favorite was The Color of Money. After he left, I couldn't sleep so I spent some more time with Fast Eddie Felson and watched The Hustler. Great way to spend a cold Saturday!

Watched Darkest Hour and it was great, would make an excellent double feature with Dunkirk. Wish I had used the subtitles though.

It certainly wasn't intentional but I ended up with the horrible freaking human beings as my theme for the day. Saturday Night Fever, The Judge, Revenge of the Sith, and Nightcrawler. Everything except Sith was a first-time viewing and probably a last-time viewing.

Downey-Judge? I quite enjoyed it. Not particularly groundbreaking, perhaps, but well done.

Speaking of The Usual Suspects, I just watched that! The kid had heard some things and was interested--liked it but wasn't paying complete attention and missed one of the final reveals. Kids these days!
Also watched another "oldie"--Braveheart. Good film, but such a frustrating story.
The Big Sick was a great surprise for me. I didn't really know what to expect, but it was funny, touching, and sweet. Well-deserved screenplay nomination.

I finally caught up with War for the Planet of the Apes and absolutely loved it. The old and remake franchises are some of my favorites, and I'm not sure why I didn't see this when it was in theaters. I've now seen all of the nominees for Best Visual Effects, and I'm rooting for the Apes! The team of people behind this movie have created compelling, realistic characters. I was curious why the franchise hadn't been recognized with a win, and it looks like it's down to bad luck. Rise of the Planet of the Apes lost to the flasher Hugo, and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes was overshadowed by Interstellar. Both those winners are flashier films helmed by beloved directors. I could see either film besting either Ex Machina and The Jungle Book, especially since the latter does a poorer job at creating believable characters.

I've been meaning to watch more this month, but life has been getting in the way. Olympics, college softball, and being able to watch archived games on MLB.TV have eaten into my movie time. I'm hoping I can start watching more soon.

Last night, I ordered in pizza and watched the black and chrome edition of Mad Max: Fury Road (my pick for best picture of that year). I was convinced that the new edition was a gimmick or curiosity, but I was very, very wrong. There was a lot of thought in how to tone each scene to evoke different eras of filmmaking. It also gave me a stronger appreciation of Miller's use of shadow and silhouettes. If you're a fan of the film and haven't seen this version, I'd highly recommend it!

I needed a happy start to the day so I watched The Princess Bride. I've never met anyone who didn't like that movie. Even though it doesn't count for this challenge I'm watching Captain America: Civil War in anticipation of Black Panther tomorrow.

We are rapidly getting to the point in the challenge where I start stealing idea for what to watch from other people's lists.

I'm back in Challenge mode now, and plan to finish strong in this Challenge. To start with, tonight I plan an Oscar marathon.

HBO is doing a free preview this weekend so I have some unexpected titles available.

To kick off tonight’s viewing, I turned on Armageddon , which is airing on AMC right now. I have the Criterion Collection edition on DVD, but as long as it’s on TV right now, I thought I’d give it a watch, since I haven’t seen it in a couple years.

I wanted to watch more older classics in my collection this year, buit I'm pretty much going through all of this year's nominees, either again or for the first time. So far, I've seen 39 of the 44 features nominated this year. Have a couple more, still need to find two more.

Just saw Wonder. What a great film! Not at all what I was expecting. Every kid in school should see this movie... parents too.

Just watched La La Land for the first time. I'm not a fan of musicals so it's no surprise that this film didn't really speak to me. The Academy got this one right: Moonlight was the more impactful film. I think Hacksaw Ridge is the only best picture nominee from last year that I haven't seen. I think HBO has it but I don't know if I want to watch another war film during this challenge.

Speaking of musicals, I was just able to see Doctor Dolittle (1967) in a theatre today. It was a FTV for me. It was okay but the male chauvinism in it was cringe worthy and hard to stomach.

Getting desperate!
Has anyone found "Traffic Stop", "The Breadwinner" or "The Insult" anywhere?

Just saw The Breadwinner in a theatre today. It was making a small 3 day run. I don't think it is anywhere for streaming yet.

Re-watched Monster's Ball in my film class last night, along with Halle Berry's Academy Award acceptance speech. What a depressing movie. Despite being both her and Billy Bob Thorton's best performances, I don't like this movie very much.
