The Seventh Annual November Comedy Challenge *Discussion Thread* Nov 1-30, 2017

Rules

This Challenge overlaps with two well-established Challenges - October's Horror Challenge and the November-December Holiday Challenge. During the overlapping days, you can receive "double credit" by listing any qualifying items watched for those other two Challenges on your Comedy Challenge list.

It should be self-evident what titles qualify, but if you have questions about something you've never seen, check out its genre classification on IMDB, Allmovie, or metacritic, or ask about it in the discussion thread. Live events (stand-up acts, plays, TV show tapings, etc.) and audio performances (comedy albums, old-time radio shows) can also be listed.

Post your list in the list thread. Be as creative or as basic with your list as you want.

You may number (or not number) the items on your list any way you like. However, the preferred method is, as with the Holiday Challenge, any title watched, no matter how long or how short, counts as one list item. This should make it easier to record qualifying items on both lists if you participate in both Challenges.

The list thread is now live.

Free stuff!

Once again, the great folks at Hamilton Books will be providing us with some cool prizes. Thanks, GoldenWheels!

Re: The Seventh Annual November Comedy Challenge *Discussion Thread* Nov 1-30, 2017

Since the Holiday Challenge jumped me , I've gone ahead and created the discussion thread for this November's Comedy Challenge! Once again, the kind folks at Hamilton Books are sponsoring prizes (thanks, Golden Wheels!), so let's plan to do the same method as last year. Anyone can go to https://www.hamiltonbook.com/ and nominate some items (they don't have to be movies or TV shows, but they do have to be funny). I think last year our prize packs were about $20 of HB value, so keep that in mind when you're nominating. If you select something that's $20, that would likely be the only item in that pack so it better be awesome. Those nominating will receive an additional entry in the drawing.

I've been watching a fair amount of horror comedy lately, but will transition to harder stuff so that I'm good and ready for November 1st. Might do a Marxian concentration this year. Thanks for running this again David.

I need this challenge to cleanse my palate after a month of horror movies. Side note, I really need to make an order from HB, there's some great deals here.

One thing I plan to watch is some anime. I have the complete series of Vandread, Tenchi Muyo is on YouTube, and I have some Pokemon movies, and can watch the series on Netflix and Hulu.

I'm really looking forward to tomorrow night. Yesterday I pulled out some of my comedy DVDs. Still need to locate one or two more. Plan to watch some Three Stooges, Stand Up, cartoons, anime, just to name a few things.

Reminder that tonight's theme is horror comedy so you can get double credit in the horror challenge.

In looking over what horror films I had left in my unopened pile a couple of days ago I discovered one is a horror/comedy. It got put aside just for tonight!

I've been leaning toward Hocus Pocus (1993), Ernest Scared Stupid (1991) and/or the WNUF Halloween Special (2013) for tonight.

Are we doing themes this year? There isn't a theme list posted.

It's in the list thread, but I forgot there's a placeholder here as well--thanks! I'll copy it over.

Would manga count as a comic book for funny pages day? Pokemon is considered a comedy fantasy, and there have been Pokemon mangas published.

I waited until the first, so I could start with a theme viewing for the Challenge, which also counted for a double credit viewing with the Horror Challenge. I kicked off my Challenge with the first episode of The Real Ghostbusters, which is on Netflix. That episode really brought me back to my childhood, since I used to watch it on a regular basis. At least I did until the voice actors changed. I thought the show went downhill in the later seasons.

I was planning to watch some Three Stooges tonight, but I seem to have misplaced my Volume 3 set. And that's the set I am ready to work on now. I won't worry about it tonight, but if I can't locate it, I might have to skip the rest of Volume 3 and move right onto Volume 4.
