Re: It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like The 13th Annual Holiday Challenge (11/18-1/1)

To get prepped for tonight, I’m listening to a local radio station that started playing Christmas music at 6 this morning. They even did a countdown as it was right after the news when the morning show began.

It's missing at least one film. Disney's 1961 version of Babes in Toyland. I've not had time to go over it more closely, but that one jumped out.

I was actually able to kick off my Challenge with a fishing show this year. I was browsing the Dish Guide for something to watch for the Challenge, and came across a Thanksgiving episode of The Facts Of Fishing Show, on the World Fishing Network. The host was on Lake Erie, fishing for smallmouth bass.

Re: It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like The 13th Annual Holiday Challenge (11/18-1/1)

A month or so ago, I pulled out any Christmas themed movie or show I owned and put it in its own section in the front of my collection. (I also combined cases to gain a bit of space on the self.) I had more than I realized!

I decided while looking at it today to pick a movie to watch first, that I'm just going to go through the collection as they are shelved. So, first up was "Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas."

I also requested "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" from my library. There's a chance I'll get it before Thanksgiving, if not, by next weekend for sure. I know I've watched it at some point, but long enough ago, I don't remember it. Thought it was time to give it another watch since it's considered such a classic.

I would just go buy Planes, Trains, Automobiles. You can get the bluray at Target or Walmart for $9.99. I remember my parents renting the VHS as a kid I but couldn't watch it. I did a blind buy of the bluray about 4 years ago, and its probably my favorite John Hughes movie now. I can't really find anything new for thanksgiving viewing, but I started with Grumpy Old Men today before I got into some tv shows.

It's also missing Stalag 17, Donovan's Reef, & Grumpy Old Men to name a couple.

There used to be another more comprehensive list on Wikipedia, but I believe it no longer exists.

Currently $7.99 at Best Buy (BR/DVD/DC) and you can get another $1 off by ordering online for store pickup (if they have one in stock).

Thanks, guys, I'll check it out. My budget is very low right now, so I may take the risk (even at 7.99!) and watch the movie first before seeing if I want to buy it. I'm not a huge Steve Martin fan, to start with...

Think I had a good first day of watching. I got five in and now planning to watch another. Two were movies I had taped off Hallmark. I enjoyed both, "Christmas in the Air" and "Journey Back to Christmas." Journey was definitely inspired by "It's a Wonderful Life," though in the opposite way, with the main character going into the future. Both are worth the watch if you like Hallmark movies.

I just bought it for store pickup at Best Buy. Will try to add the digital code tonight.

If you have the Starz app on your Roku, I believe Planes, Trains And Automobiles is also on there.

I don't have the app, but I saw that it was available for demand, but I don't subscribe to Starz. Amazon has it for rent as well, but I'm really on a tight budget right now. I have been out of work for several years for health reasons, and finally was able to start looking for work in May. I just started working again 2 weeks ago, so my budget right now is very slim, especially with the holidays coming up.

Give me a month or two and I'll have more discretionary funds, but right now if I can get a movie for free from the library, that's my route!

I signed up with Hulu last month and I'm glad I did, they have a ton of Thanksgiving TV episodes.

Sorry, a couple of us here are part of one, but it's been full for years. Highly recommend everyone merge up before UV goes under.

Well, Trevor, Travis McClain, myself and a few other people do. You can have up to 6 in a group and share films (other than Disney). I've definitely taken advantage of the eclectic tastes that are represented in the group!

I guess I'll be in my own group, alone. (solo violin rises on the soundtrack).

Disney Movies Anywhere is shutting down. I migrated my Amazon and Disney movies to Movies Anywhere.

I've been looking for something different to do for the challenge this year, and my goal will be to watch all of the Hallmark movies I have on dvd. I've watched most of them but I have a lot I haven't seen yet that I bought on dvd.

Wow, I'm watching the Thanksgiving episode of Full House and I realized that I am watching it literally on the 30th anniversary of the first airing. Complete accident!

I've honestly never done a challenge here. Ever. Interesting...

Okay, so, does one title cover many categories? Like, does Charlie Brown Thanskgiving cover 1. Charlie Brown, 2. Thanksgiving, and 3. Animated?

Vudu groups? WHAT?! How do we set up more of those?!

The holiday challenge is a lot more relaxed compared to the horror challenge so there are no real categories so to say. Any tv show, movies, concerts or animated shorts count for one entry. For the first week most of us go for viewing all things thanksgiving before diving into all christmas movies and tv. Also any movie set during the Holiday season but has nothing to do with Christmas counts.

Just as a side note, double check all your movies to make sure they ported over. I had one, "Toy Story of Horror" that did not and I had to contact them to get it added onto my account. The person I spoke with said that there were a handful of a titles that were having issues. This was when it was first announced, however, so hopefully the bugs have been fixed.

I believe it's connected with the UV library...it has been at least 2 or 3 years since the group I'm in was set up. Trevor may remember more, otherwise if you google Vudu Groups, the first result will take you to the info page. Hope that helps a little!

Re: It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like The 13th Annual Holiday Challenge (11/18-1/1)

I’ve had insomnia tonight, ever since I woke up at 2:30 this morning, so I thought I’d get some holiday viewing in. I started with one of my Challenge traditions, the wonderful episode of Nature , ‘Christmas In Yellowstone’. It is available to watch on YouTube, if anyone wants to watch it.
