Assume that all of these are available to all customers unless specifically listed as member only like the Welcome Package. Also remember that any preliminary codes are just that and BN could pull it, change the details or exclusions anything prior to release so always a bit of YMMV until the final release date

Mini FAQ
Coupons should not work for PREORDERS , Nook, Legos, Rosetta Stone, Digital, Gift Cards, Memberships, etc. There are glitches where sometimes an excluded item will be allowed but assume that is the exception to the rule
Free Shipping is $25 (before tax/shipping) or with membership.
Max 3 GC on a single online order.
Online only a single code can be applied to an order
Return period is 14 days after delivery (possibly 30 days for members though I've never tried)
Online ordered items can returned to a local store unless it's classified as a web-only item then it's at the store's discretion to accept
The long standing Free 60 day Trial Offer was discontinued in late May 2016

STORE ONLY 15% OFF Coupons -- Unknown if multi-use or if will work on 40% Off Items
15% OFF Single Item Exp 12/31/2017 (I)
15% OFF Single Item Exp 12/31/2017 (II)
15% OFF Single Item Exp ?? (III)

15% Single Item exp 11/6 2:59am ET -- if these are all used I can post some more.
New codes added below at least to make the bots and lurkers work a little harder. Used codes removed 3:30pm. New Codes added

Welcome coupons may be dead -- or at least the type that have been available for nearly a decade. The latest set now have what appears to be single use codes so these probably no longer will be generic/multiple use style.

Is there a good thread for ongoing discussion of horror, especially new releases, through the year?

Not really a generic horror thread that I recall, but Chad's yearly planning thread will be posted soon, and it tends to be bumped for horror discussion regularly.

Every major and many minor new releases get specific threads. Most theatrical releases of all genres get a thread in Movie Talk, and then DVD/BD releases get threads in HD Talk or DVD Talk. Then there may also be bargain threads for specific releases or sales, often horror specific.

We have conversations here on pretty much every conversation under the sun. Check out all our subforums!

My list should be final.

Final Total = 138 (tied my personal best)
First-Time Views = 95
Checklist = COMPLETE
Theme Days = COMPLETE
Daily Subset = COMPLETE
Challenge Number = 10th Completed

At least in my house, the death of DVD is real. I only had 4 viewings through that format. By contrast, this was my first year with a UHD player, and I was able to get 7 total viewings. I hope that will continue to rise during the next challenge, but I guess that will depend on what horror films get the UHD treatment in the next year. My dominant format was Blu-ray with 72.

Weak performance for me, but I knew work would get seriously in the way this year. 10 films watched, so goad of 13 not met. Still enjoyed what I watched. List completed.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 13th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

I went the opposite way. I watched 62 movies on DVD, most since 2014. I kind of used the challenge to get through some of my backlog.

Same. DVD still gets a lot of play from me...Especially when it comes to my weakness up picking up all those damn Mill Creek/Echo Bridge sets! And yes, I still use Netflix's DVD plan. But imagine the wonders if they carried stuff from the likes of Arrow & Vinegar Syndrome.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 13th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

My list is final with 132 total viewings and 99 first time views. A new record for me. I managed to finish all of the theme days and the basic checklist. This was my eighth Horror Movie Challenge. I watched 64 DVDs and 64 Blu-rays, 2 VHS tapes, one in theater viewing and one TV viewing.

Of my first time views may favorites were:
this years It
The House at the End of Time a very cool haunted house movie from Venezuela which I would never have know about if not for the South American theme day
Don't Breath, a very exciting home invasion story
The Babadook, a great haunting movie,
The Mafu Cage one of the best psychological horror movies I've seen.

A few of my least favorite were:
Carnivore (2000)
The Night of the Sorcerers
Metamorphosis
Yambao.

This year I wanted to participate in more of the subset pick reviews. I did and really enjoyed doing that.

A tremendous thanks to Chad who once again did an amazing job running this challenge. Also thanks to the sponsors and all the participants. As usual I often fell behind with the discussions but it was fun catching up.

I received my prize pack today. I was like 'Whoa...this weighs a ton!'. The picture doesn't do it justice. I want to thank GoldenWheels and Hamiltonbooks again for their gracious generosity.

Can't imagine ever giving up DVD. So many films and TV shows are not on BD, and likely never will be. If I had to permanently give up BD or DVD, I'd lose BD with no hesitation.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 13th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

I finalized my list tonight.

Total watches: 111
First time watches: 107
Checklist requirements completed
Theme Nights completed
Challenge Number: 5th year completed

All in all, a pretty great year of mostly new to me movies. My favorite first time watch was Pin and least favorite was Alucarda.

I'm with you, although there are a few BD titles I'd hate to have to give up as they've never received a DVD release or that DVD is long OOP/expensive/MOD.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 13th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

I haven't given up DVD entirely, although I did only watch one this challenge. That was only due to the to watch pile being full of unwatched Blu-rays. I'll still buy them if it's the only option available.

I just cancelled my subscription (2-out; originally 4) for the first time since being a member. The closest distribution center was closed, and what used to be a two day turnaround time is now closer to the week it originally took. Also factoring in the lack of Blu-ray, boutique label offerings and no UHD in sight left zero justification for continuing. End of an era. I won't completely rule out temporarily reactivating it for next year's challenge though.

All prize categories completed
Participation
100+
Themes 33/33
Subset 34/34
Checklist complete
5 or more Challenges
10 or more Challenges

Total views: 169
First time views: 116

My favorite first time views tended to be from the subset picks, so big thanks to the suggesters and to Chad for the final say on an excellent set of 31 films. Standouts included Raw, Amer, and Bubba Ho-Tep. Non-subset standouts included The Voices and Get Out.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 13th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

My List in complete.

43 total movies, not all that impressive. But I went out of my way to pack in a bunch of new things for me, including catch-up with Stranger Things and Walking Dead plus a dozen new movies.

To add some delightful Halloween flavor, we took in The Thing in 70mm early in the month and then visited the LAIKA exhibit at the Portland Art Museum and then took in a couple of our favorites (Caroline and ParaNorman) after seeing props, sets, minatures, and costumes from the movies. Really a highlight!

I recently thought about if I were stranded on a desert island and had a choice between my BDs (which I have been buying primarily since 2011) or my DVDs, I would have to go with my DVDs simply for all the TV shows I have (Friends, Seinfeld, Parks & Rec, Tales From the Crypt, Family Guy, Cheers, Family Ties, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Community, Dexter, House, How I Met Your Mother, Lost... etc.).

Yes, me too! I'm just not going to re-buy everything, and most of the collection is DVD. I only dug out 6 DVD titles for this years challenge, and 3 of those were first time views....

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 13th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

I finally made time to go through the lists and there are a lot of good ones on here. I hate having to vote for the 'best' list because it's not always clear to me which list is really superior.

Surfinhank has a great video style to his list. I really enjoyed Mrcellophane's 'would I survive' views and Mondo Kane's drive-through totals are always epic. I appreciated Tarfirmmer linking Wiki threads to his list and the well formatted star rated posts. Every year Alyxstarr's list seems like it's the most well formatted with tables, etc. SterlingBen's list is well formatted with nice commentaries including rants about beer and more detailed thoughts on films; ultimately since I have to chose I think I appreciated SterlingBen's list the most this year.

There were a lot of interesting commentaries/ratings this year and I'll have to go dig back through more of these - Cardsfan11, mallratcal, gobear, rbrown, Dimension X, numbercruncher, Indy24LA, Golden Doujinshi, omike, thecrazydude, Tuck420, brainee, talbot, and holmes all especially stood out with more details about the films.

Overall some fun lists to go through, I wish I had made more effort to go through more of the lists during the month it might have saved me from some turkeys.

I've found myself more and more appreciating streaming media. It's convenient and saves a lot of troubles with storage. I'll never entirely give up physical media especially since a lot of the cult niche titles I like are usually only on disc. One advantage is that some of the smaller modern titles usually end up streaming only because they don't always have the budget or anticipated demand for physical release.

So today was the proposed deadline for list completion in order to qualify for all the prize categories. It looks like it'll probably be around Thursday (11/9) until I get everything done. In other words, I'll continue taking the list stats right up until the winner announcements are posted.
