Assume that all of these are available to all customers unless specifically listed as member only like the Welcome Package. Also remember that any preliminary codes are just that and BN could pull it, change the details or exclusions anything prior to release so always a bit of YMMV until the final release date

Mini FAQ
Coupons should not work for PREORDERS , Nook, Legos, Rosetta Stone, Digital, Gift Cards, Memberships, etc. There are glitches where sometimes an excluded item will be allowed but assume that is the exception to the rule
Free Shipping is $25 (before tax/shipping) or with membership.
Max 3 GC on a single online order.
Online only a single code can be applied to an order
Return period is 14 days after delivery (possibly 30 days for members though I've never tried)
Online ordered items can returned to a local store unless it's classified as a web-only item then it's at the store's discretion to accept
The long standing Free 60 day Trial Offer was discontinued in late May 2016

STORE ONLY 15% OFF Coupons -- Unknown if multi-use or if will work on 40% Off Items
15% OFF Single Item Exp 12/31/2017 (I)
15% OFF Single Item Exp 12/31/2017 (II)
15% OFF Single Item Exp ?? (III)

I freaking loved It Follows, one of my favorite views of that year iirc.

Halloween 6, which movie is better to watch first? The theatrical or Producer's cut.

I'm one of the few people who is sort of down the middle with It Follows. It seems most people love it or hate it. I thought it was all right. Very well made, but I had some issues with the story. I always think my experience with that movie was clouded by a close friend who saw it before I did and hated it. She talked such shit about the movie beforehand that it was hard to go into it with a completely open mind.

Thanks for the welcome, Trevor. I think I'll be here a while. :-)

Watched Train from Busan tonight. What an incredibly powerful ending. Loved it.

Speaking of liking or disliking films, we've discussed earlier in the thread how various factors at the time of your viewing can affect your impressions of a film. I've hated films on first viewing, then come around on the second viewing. I don't have a good memory for, well, anything, but on films my main gauge is my IMDb rating of films I view. A recent example is that I gave Creepshow 2 a 3/10 at some point. Just saw it on anthology day and really enjoyed it, probably a 7/10. So how do I really feel about it?

Just got back from watching Jigsaw. It was like every other saw movie. Traps, blood, gore, plenty of it with a nice twisted ending. I expected a bit better. It still was entertaining thruout.

For people who didn't like It Follows, what is a modern horror movie that you did like?
I personally really enjoyed It Follows and this it's a better example of recent horror output.

I'm tempted to go see Jigsaw but I'm not very up to date on the Saw mythos and cannot decide if the continuity between films is a brilliant thing (usually I love ongoing continuity) or is keeping me from enjoying the later Saw films because I've sometimes lost track of how characters are related across films. Every year I decide that I should watch Saw series back to back but end up just watching other stuff instead.

I personally like It Follows. It gives you a lot to think about and was one of the most original ideas in a while for a horror movie. Plus, I just enjoyed the surreal dream-like atmosphere. It's also a good symbolic warning against STD's lol

That said, I think The Conjuring 2 is probably my favorite most recent one, followed closely by It. I also liked Happy Death Day, but it's after a big dropoff for the other two.

Barring unforeseen circumstances, I should definitely make my 50 for the month and maybe a bit over.

Just finished watching The Seventh Curse (1986) on Amazon. Best looking version of the movie I've seen. Puts my Fortune Star Legendary Collection disc to shame. The only flaw, because of course there has to be, is that it is slightly cut, but it's just that kinda superfluous framing device at the start of the movie, otherwise, it's almost like seeing the movie for the first time.

Another It Follows fan. I thought maybe it was just the synth score I was more into, but it held up surprisingly well on the subsequent viewing.

I honestly don't think it matters. Just a matter of preference.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 13th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

I need to watch my copy of It Follows. When I watched it with friends, I was blown away and purchased the amazing steelbook edition when it came out. I thought it was both smart and scary.

I recently acquired the Dracula: Legacy Collection set and watched Dracula's Daughter and Son of Dracula. I don't remember ever seeing them. The former is a fantastic film, an excellent sequel that may actually surpass the original. The latter is okay. Lon Chaney steps into Lugosi's shoes and is never quite convincing as Dracula. However, the supporting cast is game, and a lot of the stuff not featuring the vampire is really interesting. Glad I got the set!

I've been ramping down my viewing as life gets in the way. I'm hoping to set down for a mini-marathon over the weekend - after a birthday party and a vet visit and whatever else crops up!

Actually you can go into this one without knowing much of the Saw series. Just maybe Jigsaw, John Kramer.

I watched Life last night. I thought it was a very effective killer alien on a ship movie. As I was watching it, I kept thinking about Prometheus and the Alien prequels. If at least one of the prequels had been similar to Life, I think they would have been received much better.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 13th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

Perusing the IMDb list for today's theme and noticed that Twin Peaks: FWWM is listed. Twin Peaks has a population of 51,201 (1990) ... a small town is generally agreed upon as having a population of 20,000 or less.

I think people confuse a town behind in the times (or set in their ways) as a small town automatically. Or maybe they're just thinking of the town center only. I've been to the "real" Twin Peaks many times (North Bend area, from '98 - '06 timeframe) and that population is less than 7,000. That's small.

I started it the other night, but was too tired to finish it, so I decided to finish Spawn, on Google Play. That movie has always held a special place in my heart, because I actually saw it in the theater.

Demon Knight is perfect for today's Small Town Horror Challenge, and I also plan to watch The Brotherhood of Satan, a fun little bit of early 70s drive-in fodder about a coven of devil worshippers who take over a small desert town for their own evil purposes.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 13th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

I've been trying to catch up on my foreign horror films. Yesterday I watched El hombre y el monstruo (The Man and the Monster) (1959) and The Ghost Galleon (1974).

I really enjoyed El hombre y el monstruo (The Man and the Monster) (1959). The makeup effects are pretty goofy but it's otherwise a passable mashup of "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" and "Faust" with somewhat Wolfman looking makeup.

The Ghost Galleon (1974) is the worst of the "Blind Dead" films I've seen. It has a fairly interesting premise but doesn't pull it off as well as the land bound versions of the story. I know I've purchased the last installment of the series, Night of the Seagulls (1975), but it's not in my unopened piles (unless I just missed it, which is quite likely). If I've watched that one it was not during a challenge as it's not in any of my previous lists... I hate when that happens...

I never caught the throwback feel that everyone kept mentioning, which is another reason I shut it off. It didn't feel anything like the stuff I watch when I was younger. That's just my opinion. Kind of like House of the Devil(?), that people praised it's throwback feel.

I think a lot of people doing the praising have watched a lot of movies from the period they're associating with a successful throwback, or just some of the more mainstream films from the time.

It's all in the film-making techniques used, which are influenced from 70s film-making more than contemporary styles. If you rewatch It Follows, pay attention to how many long takes are used, they're all throughout the film. The director uses slow zooms and pulls frequently, whereas a modern film has a cut every few seconds. It Follows lets the tension build, as opposed to overstimulating the audience.

The film also feels timeless, with the lack of pop music and cell phones; I enjoy the Japanese One Missed Call but it all ready feels dated with the characters' use of flip phones. The film emphasizes atmosphere, and the horror aspect of the film relies more on the audiences' imagination than overt gore or special effects. With the synth score and numerous tracking shots, it's hard not to be reminded of the original Halloween. It also lets the malevolent force remain mysterious, whereas most modern horror films feel the need to overly explain the killer/creature's motivations. An ambiguous ending and thought-provoking themes, which I believe are about the loss of innocence, just look at how every visual element decays throughout the film, are more at home in the daring era of 70s horror film-making.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 13th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/

So, I took what basically amounts to a nap so I could wake up in the early a.m. to binge Stranger Things 2. Having gone through Season 1 yesterday, everything was fresh on my memory, so I was pumped and ready.

I really liked Season 2. It built on Season 1 and developed characters nicely with some getting a chance to shine more than others. But, when talking throwbacks to the 80's, I don't think I've ever seen a movie or show do it so well if it wasn't actually made during that era. The ending leaves a setup for Season 3, but not so much that you feel cheated about waiting the year it'll probably take to produce it. If you liked Season 1, you'll definitely like this season.

Spoiler:
There's a lot to be said about the way they handled the characters this time around. I loved the Halloween atmosphere in the first couple of episodes and it was especially nice seeing a Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees costume in the crowds.

They took the Twin Peaks route of reuniting Eleven with her core group by not having it happen until the last couple of episodes, but not in an annoying way Lynch did it. They don't have her portray another character so much as they just have her as a lost girl who runs away and is just trying to find a place in the world, only to realize she had a home. It was actually done very well, although the one episode focused solely on her trip outside of Hawkins was somewhat of a distraction from the main narrative.

Will is pretty much front and center most of the season while Mike seems to blend in as part of the ensemble and gets considerably less to do, but I think it was the correct move with at least a couple of more seasons coming up nd plenty of time to get the focus back on the group of friends.

Another big surprise was the amount of involvement Steve had within the main plot. I really didn't expect to see him as much as I did, but they went a long way in redeeming his character from Season 1 and he was actually very likeable this year with new character Billy taking over the teen antagonist role.

Max was a refreshing new character and her presence potentially strained Lucas and Dustin's friendship.

I'm not sure what to think about the Jonathan-Nancy-Steve triangle anymore as it really seems like no one is really without dirt on their hands in this one, but it came to a new fork in the road.

All that said, I'm almost sad it will be another year or so before we get more.
